What are some unspoken rules you have in your day to day lives? This was a convo I was having with one of my friends as he was saying that in men's bathrooms you always leave a gap between urinals and it's just a rule everyone kind of knows about although it's not written anywhere. I usually go to the furthest away cubical in public bathrooms too. In my staff canteen everyone kind of sits as far away from one another but if you're feeling social you sit at the front table, again an unspoken rule :') I also find it weird if there's someone at the table across from mine but doesn't sit with their back to me. Ofc on public transport you just sit by yourself if you have the choice, it's a bit weird if someone sits right next to you wjen there's a free row kink.gif

So what rules do you have? Which ones annoy you the most if they're broken?

On the subject of public transport, I feel like an obvious unwritten rule is that if someone has headphones in then you shouldn't talk to them laugh.gif I usually listen to my iPod if I'm travelling alone so that is one that annoys me if it's broken - m8 you're interrupting the flow of the song!! I am never in the mood to socialise straight after a long day at Uni and just want the time to pass with music. Fair enough if it's something important though, like when the bus driver was informing everyone that the bus had broken down one time *_*

If you've just started at a new job you introduce yourself to everyone you'll be working with. It's been annoying me so much recently that a new person - a manager, at that! - hasn't done that at my workplace. Just rude I think given we're a fairly small team.

YES to the urinal thing, it’s so annoying when someone doesn’t follow it. You also should never speak when taking a leak in a public toilet.

Omg i hate that but it's so common for some girls to think it's okay to just continue a conversation through cubicals, i don't really wanna have to listen to you and your pee stream thanks laugh.gif

Going to a urinal right next to someone else (unless there are literally no other options) should actually be a criminal offence.

was having this exact conversation about girls vs. guys toilet etiquette! it does go all out the window as soon as alcohol is brought into the situation. Probably the case for most the unspoken rules..

If it's the only one left I will wait rather than stand there. It's a huge no.

The biggest no no for me is speaking in bathrooms. Like no bitch, I have zero intention on making small talk with you right now. Be normal and avoid eye contact and discussion.

The only logical solution is to ban urinals altogether. It will make everyone happier, and the world will not miss them.

Another unspoken rule - if you're in the office on your birthday, you bring in buns for everyone. I've no idea how this started, or whether it's just a Belfast thing, but if you're bunless on your birthday, then expect a lot of glares for the remainder of the day.

What annoys me with urinals is where people break the every other rule. So if there is 5 toilets and someone is at toilet 1 the second person goes to 4 rather than 3 or 5 meaning you have to either wait or go next to either of these people.

Also people who use the one cubical when they are only peeing. Mate there is no one at the troff (although I hate that thing, why do I want a long shared toilet) use that.

There's always another option. Waiting.

Bringing in cakes on your birthday is definitely not just a Belfast thing.

Girls bathrooms in clubs are like a whole other thing, i swear there are people that spend their entire night in the bathroom because it's just as good as out in the club, you go in wanting to pee and come out with 3 new friends and a confidence boost

Omg yes, it is so awkward when men talk to me at the urinal. I find it hard enough weeing in public without trying to have a conversation at the same time.

i don't think anyone has ever talked to me in the urinals while peeing or waiting to pee. it's just weird! unless i was with someone which is a different story but even then I almost never talk there.

why is someone peeing right next to you is such a problem though? if they mind their own business i don't give a shit. if i had to guess i would say this comes from a homophobic state of mind that sneaky gays will use your vulnerability and have a look at your penis and infect you with gayness or try to rape you or something. sorry y'all, toilets are for peeing (and having tomfoolery in stalls with other willing individuals~) only

I guess there’s that, but for me it’s more of a personal space thing. Like, no one pees right next to me at home, so I don’t really want them doing it in a public place.

I think you have to remember that there's a very British streak to this Pav in that as a nation we're quite uptight and almost prudish about stuff like this so there's this ingrained sense of privacy being invaded when someone is literally shoulder to shoulder with you that makes us uncomfortable.

Or at least that's how I read it

They’re pretty close in some places. It feels like when someone sits next to you on the bus when there are empty seats everywhere.
