What artists would you have written off totally that came out of nowhere and got another hit?

For me I’d say Mike Posner. I thought Cooler Than Me would be a one hit wonder and years later he was #1 with I Took a Pill in Ibiza.

some that spring to mind for me..

pink - what about us (you kinda always think she's going to fade away from the scoring hits zone but she always surprises you with her continued longevity)
Maroon 5 - MLJ (because they were getting smaller hits for a couple of years and dipped away)
One Republic - Counting Stars
James Blunt - Bonfire Heart
Will Young - Jealousy
The Veronicas - You Ruin Me (maybe not such a hit as it fell like a brick but to even go top 10 years later randomly)

Robyn is an obvious one too, with "Show Me Love" in 1998 then randomly popping back to say hello with "With Every Heartbeat" and so on!

Never expected to see Daddy Yankee get another hit after 'Gasolina', let alone one that spent over 10 weeks at #1 tongue.gif

Maybe Owl City's Good Time? Fireflies seemed like such an obvious one-hit wonder. I guess Carly Rae helped a lot with that though.

Mark Owen's Four Minute Warning in 2003 is another, I really didn't ever see that coming at all after his solo relevance had effectively finished six years earlier.

I can't say I ever saw Craig David's second career wave happening either!

James Arthur getting a #1 with 'Say You Won't Let Go' was a pretty big shock

I guess it wasn't from nowhere because it was the very next single, not a new era, but I really expected Katy Perry to be a one hit wonder with I Kissed A Girl at the time!

Blurred Lines for Robin Thicke. Didn't expect to hear his name again after his one minor hit in 2007.

Kylie - Spinning around
After leaving PWL, she struggled with Deconstruction apart from CIM and didn’t expect her to come back with a new era of hits!

Never thought Fatboy Slim would get a hit as late as 2013, even if the song was mostly propelled by the Calvin Harris remix.

I'm pretty surprised Camila has managed to do so decently, I even thought Havana was going to struggle initially!

At the start of 2011 I wouldn't have predicted Nicole Scherzinger "Don't Hold Your Breath" and Jennifer Lopez "On The Floor" would be huge hits. Goes to show what great pop songs can do for your career. Nicole's solo career hadn't gone to expectations prior to that single, and JLo seemed to have gone off the radar a bit too.

Nelly Furtado "Maneater" another one I suppose back in 2006.

Take That when they returned with Patience. I dont think anyone expected such a massive return and that they would dominate the charts all over again.

To a lesser extent, Steps Scared of the Dark.

I do think Jennifer Lopez's 'On The Floor' is the most obvious one which came to mind when I saw the thread title.

Carly was more or less also a one hit wonder at the time (technically 2 hits but the 2nd one was pretty minor) so this is kind of doubly an answer to this thread.

edit: actually no, I messed up the chronology of that - 'Tonight I'm Getting Over You' was after 'Good Time', so Carly was a one hit wonder then. Pretty sure this was after 'This Kiss' bombed though?

They basically released her album off the back of 'Good Time' 6 months after 'Call Me Maybe' and expected it to sell on that, then released 'This Kiss' after the album.
