Origin: United Kingdom
Day: May 22nd

1986 | Spitting Image – The Chicken Song

Possibly the worst song to be born into the world, I’m devastated this was my birth #1 in the UK and that the generation I was born into thought that this was acceptable music to purchase in large enough quantities to make it #1 that week. I don’t get the appeal or the joke around it all, but it was obviously trending very high at this time. By comparison, if I had been born elsewhere in the world, this is what would have been my birth #1;

Australia • Cliff Richard & The Young Ones – Living Doll
Canada • Pet Shop Boys – West End Girls
Germany • Chris Norman – Midnight Lady
USA • Whitney Houston – Greatest Love Of All

1987 | Starship – Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now
1988 | Wet Wet Wet / Billy Bragg with Cara Tivey – With A Little Help From My Friends / She’s Leaving Home
1989 | Gerry Marsden, Paul McCartney, Holly Johnson & The Christians – Ferry Cross The Mersey
1990 | Adamski – Killer heart.gif
1991 | Cher – The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s In His Kiss)
1992 | KWS – Please Don’t Go
1993 | Ace Of Spades – All That She Wants
1994 | Manchester United Football Squad – Come On You Reds heart.gif
1995 | Robson & Jerome – Unchained Melody / The White Cliffs Of Dover
1996 | George Michael – Fastlove
1997 | Olive – You’re Not Alone heart.gif
1998 | Aqua – Turn Back Time
1999 | Boyzone – You Needed Me
2000 | Madison Avenue – Don’t Call Me Baby
2001 | Geri Halliwell – It’s Raining Men
2002 | Ronan Keating – If Tomorrow Never Comes
2003 | R. Kelly – Ignition (Remix) heart.gif
2004 | Frankee – FURB (F U Right Back)
2005 | Akon – Lonely
2006 | Gnarls Barkley – Crazy
2007 | McFly – Baby’s Coming Back / Transylvania
2008 | Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake & Timbaland – 4 Minutes
2009 | Tinchy Stryder feat. N-Dubz – Number 1
2010 | Roll Deep – Good Times
2011 | Bruno Mars – The Lazy Song
2012 | Rita Ora feat. Tinie Tempah – R.I.P.
2013 | Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams – Get Lucky
2014 | Mr. Probz – Waves (Robin Schulz Remix) heart.gif
2015 | OMI – Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)
2016 | Drake feat. Wizkid & Kyla – One Dance
2017 | Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber – Despacito (Remix)

Some highs, some lows, many forgettable #1 singles in that list, and a few gems too. Great to see a #1 from Manchester United in that list being as that was the childhood team I chose to support. I’m not sure if I am pleased or not with the outcome, but certainly I need some more iconic #1 singles in the UK when I age in future. happy.gif

wow that really is unfortunate mellow.gif

mine was 'Men In Black' by Will Smith in the UK, and 'I'll Be Missing You' by Puff Daddy in the US. From 1997, of course. Two rap classics so I'm pleased.

I'd rather an actual single song than what I had, an EP by Erasure - how incredibly lame :/

Lmao Wardy! laugh.gif what a song *_*

Mine was the following:

Puff Daddy And Faith Evans Featuring 112 - 'I'll Be Missing You'

First charted: 14/06/1997
My D.O.B: 04/08/1997
Weeks at #1: 6 (non-consecutive)

I am happy with my birthday #1! This was of course a reworking of 'Every Breath You Take' by The Police in memory of The Notorious B.I.G., who had been killed earlier in the year. I think it was really nicely done by all parties involved. It is one of the very small pool of remotely urban songs that Heart FM touches along with 'Gangsta's Paradise' laugh.gif

Mine was Beats International - Dub Be Good To Me

Beats International was the first project of Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, after he left The Housemartinns, and this mash up of Just Be Good to Me/Guns of Brixton shot to #1 in March 1990. A pretty great birthday #1 if I may so. The less said about the Professor Green/Lily Allen remake though, the better.

Now that is a very good birthday #1. I would have taken The Sun Always Shines On TV had I been born a few weeks earlier, and looking back at 1986 there aren't a lot of good number 1s to pick between so Awardinary - I share your pain.

Yep. Tbf I've heard their Take A Chance On Me and it's a pretty good cover.

Never knew what US one was till just now - Mariah Carey I'll Be There, one of her better ballads.

Lay All Your Love On Me was the one that they played on the chart, but they did alternate it a bit:

This is actually a very special thing for me, when my friend had his first child I bought them the 12" vinyl of the number 1 on the day she was born - "Uptown Funk" which they now have displayed in her bedroom.

Wet Wet Wet - Goodnight Girl
Released: 21/12/1991
#1 from: 25/01/1992-15/02/1992

Careful when researching your birth number 1 because a lot of lists show it from the week ending date only. This song was actually number 1 from 19/01/1992 to 09/02/1992.

Cliff Richard - The Millenium Prayer

It's amazing how he had a long lifespan from first UK Top 40 song to last UK Top 40 song

His first one was Move It from 1958 (peaked at #2) and his last one was Singin' The Blues from 2009 (peaked at #40)
