Chart Commentary

Dominating this week's chart, Latin American pop group CNCO's new album gives them a total of six entries in this week's chart. Prior to this week, they had three chart hits - #2 hit Reggaetón Lento with Little Mix, the new album's lead single Hey DJ, and currently charting instant grat track Mi Medicina. This week, they double their total chart hits, with Sólo Yo, Su Vuelve Loca and Mamita all entering, while all six hits are charting in the same week. All songs appear on their self-titled second album, which gives them their first #1 in my album chart, after Primera Cita hit #5 at the end of last year.

Sólo Yo is their highest song, helped along by the fact it's the new single and has a music video to boot. It matches the #2 peak of Reggaetón Lento already, only held off by Kate Nash's Karaoke Kiss, still holding strong at the top. Mi Medicina also becomes their third top 10 hit at last, jumping 21 spots to #6.

CNCO: Singles
2017 02 Reggaetón Lento (CNCO & Little Mix) | 2 | 22-2-5-6-12-13-17-20-25-33-30-33-x-27-x-28-... (14+ non-consecutive weeks)
2017 13 Hey DJ | 1 | 13-20-19-22-34-x-21-... (6+ non-consecutive weeks)
2018 06 Mi Medicina | PS | 36-36-16-18-27-6-... (6+ weeks)
2018 02 Sólo Yo | 4 | 2-... (1+ weeks)
2018 13 Se Vuelve Loca | AT | 13-... (1+ weeks)
2018 26 Mamita | 3 | 26-... (1+ weeks)

CNCO
2017 05 Primera Cita | 1 | 5-5-9-8-10-11-11-12-14-x (9 weeks)
2018 01 CNCO | 2 | 1-... (1+ weeks)

The only other song to enter this week's top 10 comes from another boyband. PRETTYMUCH have had six chart hits so far, and new single Healthy becomes the fifth of those to enter the top 10. All of these have occurred since July 2017, and Healthy is the second top 10 they've achieved in 2018. Of those five top 10s, only No More has debuted in the top 10, with the others all climbing in at a later date.

PRETTYMUCH
2017 05 Would You Mind | 1 | 15-17-12-14-20-19-13-10-5-8-13-18-28-35-39-x (15 weeks)
2017 35 Teacher | 2 | 35-x (1 week)
2017 04 Open Arms | 3 | 12-12-8-6-4-10-16-22-33-34-40-x (11 weeks)
2017 02 No More (feat. French Montana) | 4 | 2-2-5-8-10-17-23-35-x (8 weeks)
2018 07 10,000 Hours | 5 | 21-20-14-7-15-19-33-x (7 weeks)
2018 10 Healthy | 6 | 37-33-13-10-... (4+ weeks)

Last Thursday, I went to see Declan McKenna play live at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town. He was excellent and performed the entirety of his debut album What Do You Think About the Car?, which was my favourite album of 2017. The album climbed back into my album chart top 5 last week as an immediate impact, and although it drops two spots to #6 this week, it's still holding strong (this week's album chart is EXCEPTIONALLY strong!). His #1 hit single Brazil re-enters my singles chart at #31 too.

Declan McKenna: Singles
2017 03 Humongous | 7 | 18-3-8-16-27-38-x-31-x (7 non-consecutive weeks)
2017 01 Brazil | 1/6 | 20-21-24-28-32-7-1-2-3-5-10-15-20-30-37-x-31-... (16+ non-consecutive weeks)
2017 09 Why Do You Feel So Down | 8 | 26-35-9-11-20-25-27-34-40-36-x (10 weeks)

Declan McKenna: Albums
2017 01 What Do You Think About the Car? | 1 | 2-1-1-2-3-4-4-4-1-3-4-5-7-2-2-4-3-5-5-5-1-2-3-3-6-7-8-9-10-10-10-11-12-13-9-9-4-6-... (38+ weeks)

In the carnage of this week's album chart, Australian megastar Kylie Minogue has to settle for #2 with her latest album Golden. It would've been a #1 in pretty much any other week of the year but unfortunately runs into CNCO's new release. Kylie's had one #1 album, in 2014 when Kiss Me Once made its way to the top spot.

Elsewhere in this week's album chart, Cardi B makes her debut at #5 with Invasion of Privacy, just one place behind the Love, Simon soundtrack. I saw the film in the cinema this week (it was a stunner heart.gif) and expect the tracks from the soundtrack to make an even greater impact next week. Interestingly it's the first soundtrack to have ever made my album chart. I wasn't even sure I would be allowing it to chart :')

Back to the singles chart, we see a new peak for Baby Ariel and chart debuts for Alice Merton, Lil Dicky, Bleachers and Ryan O'Shaughnessy.
