What word can white people use when rapping along to songs and the n word comes up?

It sounds weird to leave a space but I don't want to be racist and use the offensive word

What can I do?

I read somewhere to use brother but that doesn't always fit or sound right?

You just don't use it and don't replace it with nothing tbh.

I asked my spouse about that long time ago and why we (white people) are refrained to use that word is just to give us a little peak and idea into the world of what it's like to be black, and watch others doing things that you cannot do, things you canít join in etc. etc.

I just blank it out, it's not that deep laugh.gif It's just not our word to use when they have reclaimed such a vile slur, and that's fine.

If you absolutely MUST have a word to fill in the blank, say something like hitta/hittas or dude/dudes. That's usually what I say to replace it if I'm singing aloud.

Actually also I was singing Freaky Friday earlier getting ready and was just like "I'm that da da, what up my da da, I'm that da da da da da da da I'm that da da" laugh.gif It sounds silly/awkward but it sounding a bit stupid is much better than using the word by any stretch of the imagination and there is no magic word to insert that fits perfectly I'm afraid.

You just don't sing it....

It's about poc reclaiming a word that was used against them for so long. It doesn't need an "alternative". I'm sure there's plenty of other words you would miss out in certain circumstances without even thinking about it (ie swearing when your mum is around etc) so why is this any more of an issue?

In a slightly still offensive twist...but radio friendly laugh.gif

“What up, my cracker? (woo) What up, my cracker?
Big ups, my cracker, we up, my cracker
You xxxx xxx cracker, man, xxxx y’all crackers
'Cause I’m that cracker, cracker, cracker, cracker
I’m that cracker”

Kinda works but I don’t recommend it x

Or for that matter, other songs with offensive words in them - even classics like Fairytale Of New York? thinking.gif

If Iím honest, I donít listen to that many songs that contain that word. Even when I do, I never rap along with them. I sing, but rarely rap.

I mean yeah, Iíd just use a blank but I must admit, give me a drink or five or ten and itís hard not to get real deep screaming every word to Bodak Yellow in a club. I have actually had this discussion with one of my best friends though and he said ďwell youíre just singing a song, not like youíre actually using it against me or anyone as a racial slurĒ, so itís interesting.

Yeah you just donít sing the word. I have a couple of friends of colour who are quite passionate about white people casually singing the word.

I mean yeah, I’d just use a blank but I must admit, give me a drink or five or ten and it’s hard not to get real deep screaming every word to Bodak Yellow in a club. I have actually had this discussion with one of my best friends though and he said “well you’re just singing a song, not like you’re actually using it against me or anyone as a racial slur”, so it’s interesting.

I agree with this.

I am FAR FROM racist, and would never use the word otherwise, but what’s the harm in singing along to Bodak Yellow for example and using the word in the song? Like I said, I would NEVER use the word to hurt someone’s feelings at all.

(Obviously of course I may be wrong!)

Edit: of course though, it would be wrong to sing those lyrics in freaky friday

I'm pretty sure they just replaced the n-word with "winner" in the censored version of 'Freaky Friday' *_* but yeah I have no particular desire to say it, I think I'd just automatically blank it out.

Like others, I just blank out the word unless it has a censored version in a radio edit laugh.gif
