With World Cup 2018 starting in a few week's time

What would you say is your favourite football related song that you've heard and why?

'Three Lions '98' without a doubt! I find the chorus to have quite an anthemic feel to it *.* Plus, compared to the 1996 original, I find this version to have more oomph and the vocals have improved a lot. ("No more years of hurt" is more uplifting than "30 years of hurt" too haha) I also have good memories associated with it as it was part of a 'going for goals' assembly that my class put together in about year 5 (along with Shayne Ward - 'That's My Goal' laugh.gif)

World in Motion is the best actual song and Three Lions is an undisputable classic (96 over 98 though). But my favourite England song is Vindaloo... I think its great how it celebrates our multi-culturalism while also being incredibly anthemic! Proper football song.

Shout out for I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles too ofc.

Wavin' Flag. That's the only one worthy of discussion.

(as someone in it for the geopolitical legacies more than the game)

This got to number 8 and is the only football related top 40 song that I can think of that isn't connected with a team or a tournament:

Even as a Wales fan, I cannot deny Three Lions is probably the best football song out there. Really gets you in the mood.

Carnival de Paris by Dario G has to be up there. It's got an infectious central melody, and it was incredibly clever the way it somehow managed to include musical elements from nearly every country that took part in the 1998 World Cup competition -

And more recently, "A Boy From Wales Called Gareth Bale" by Helen Love is pretty infectious -

Oh yes! I tend to forget about Carneval de Paris. O Darling Clementine put in a dance song makes for really cool listening and that video is fantastic.

Yes agree with Knocked It Off, Carnaval De Paris and Three Lions, all fab.

I nominate forgotten Chelsea FC anthem Blue Is The Colour to be the least bad song sung entirely by a football choir team that wasn't Back Home (the England World Cup Squad). The rest are just awful, oops!

"Eat My Goal" by Collapsed Lung is pretty great as well. Interestingly, the vocalist of Collapsed Lung is now better known as chap-hop rapper Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer.

Wavin' Flag 100% - it was the first World Cup I fully remember and we used to sing this back in Year 5 (The Coca-Cola remix that is, pretty sure they wouldn't get us singing the original tongue.gif )

Waving Flag is one of the few football songs I listen to outside of World Cup/Euros time and it works just as well, a great global and uniting feel to it. That shite posted above beating it to number 1 remains one of the biggest chart tragedies I've witnessed.

I do have a soft spot for Three Lions and Vindaloo as well. This needs a mention too, bangerrrr music.gif

For me it would be Three Lions, another one would be Samba de Janiero. Also in recent years it would be Waka Waka and Wavin' Flag and I would also listen to these outside World Cup and the Euros.

Other mentions:
World In Motion
Eat My Goal
Vindaloo
Carnival de Paris
