+++

Andrew has counted up all your nominations and later this afternoon I will reveal which songs will go to the QUALIFIER ROUND and which songs will go straight to the BIN.

The top 50 most nominated songs, regardless of volume, will qualify. Because let's be real, some NOW! albums are better than others and we'd like the qualifier rounds to reflect that (and if we put through 5 per album as we said earlier, there'd be some truly shocking qualifiers and non-qualifiers).

This time there will be exactly 50 songs going through, these will be the 50 songs that got 13 or more nominations. In previous rounds 8 nominations was enough but the quality has seemingly shot up this time and as such there will be quite a few brutal cuts.

NOW! 21: 05
NOW! 22: 04
NOW! 23: 03
NOW! 24: 05
NOW! 25: 06
NOW! 26: 06
NOW! 27: 04
NOW! 28: 03
NOW! 29: 07
NOW! 30: 07

Quite an even spread this time, with 29 and 30 the most loved and 23 and 28 the least.

Also in this thread I will reveal the ten songs from volumes 11-20 that will qualify to the semi-finals. With so many classics in the first round, there are bound to be many brutal cuts and indeed some volumes will have no representation at all in the semi-finals.

Any predictions before we get going? It'll start around 3-4pm.

Going for a simpler format this time as it takes too long to source all the YouTube clips. Chances are you know most of these songs anyway and if you don't, YouTube, Spotify etc. all exist.

QUALIFIED

>> Crowded House - Weather With You <<

>> Madness - It Must Be Love <<

>> Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody <<

>> Shakespeare's Sister - Stay <<

>> The KLF - Justified & Ancient (Stand By The JAMs) <<

A good set of qualifiers from this volume, including the massive #1s from Queen and Shakespeare's Sister. I'd be raging if the classic 'Bohemian Rhapsody' didn't make it through, thankfully 20 of you have enough taste to nominate it. Also good to have at least one dance song through in the form of The KLF with their odd but great hit 'Justified & Ancient', probably their most recognisable tune despite it not being one of their #1s.

DID NOT QUALIFY

The Temptations – My Girl 7
Genesis – I Can't Dance 6
Opus III – It's A Fine Day 6
The KLF – America: What Time Is Love? 6

Simply Red – Stars 5
Paula Abdul – Vibeology 4
James – Born Of Frustration 3
Roxette – Church Of Your Heart 3
The Cure – High 3
Brian May – Driven By You 2
Diana Ross – When You Tell Me You Love Me 2
East Side Beat – Ride Like The Wind 2
The Jesus & Mary Chain – Far Gone And Out 2
The Wonder Stuff – Welcome To The Cheap Seats 2
Wet Wet Wet – Goodnight Girl 2
Ce Ce Peniston – We Got A Love Thang 1

QUALIFIED

>> CeCe Peniston - Finally <<

>> Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer <<

>> The Cure - Friday (I'm In Love) <<

>> Utah Saints - Something Good <<

The absolute classique, not just of the dance genre but in general, 'Rhythm Is A Dancer' was the most nominated of this volume with a whopping 23 nominations. Going through with it are two more dance tunes 'Finally' and 'Something Good' (the original, hopefully the better 2008 remix also makes it through in time) as well as The Cure's signature hit 'Friday (I'm In Love)'. Again, good choices here. Shame to see KWS and SL2 out though.

DID NOT QUALIFY

George Michael And Elton John – Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me 12
Annie Lennox – Why 10
K.W.S. – Please Don't Go 10

Yes for Crowded House through, a great band, although Weather With You isn't my favourite song of theirs.

Seems like Buzzjack prefers The Cure at their more sensible, hence The Lovecats not making it through, Friday I'm In Love sounds like it could be from a completely different band to The Lovecats if you didn't know! Great song though!

I am glad Utah Saints got through, Something Good 1992 is way better than the 2008 version imo.

QUALIFIED

>> Abba - Dancing Queen <<

>> Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Satellite <<

>> The Shamen - Ebeneezer Goode <<

Only three make it out from this volume and one of those dates from well before the compilation was released, 'Dancing Queen' of course, a big #1 for Abba in the 70s and of course such a classic was going to make it through here. It is joined by two big #1s from the era the controversial dance hit 'Ebeneezer Goode' and Tasmin Archer's only real big hit 'Sleeping Satellite', another 2 I nominated for.

Shame to see 'Please Don't Go' sad.gif

I don't like it quite as much after I found out about the very similar Double You version but its still a great tune.

Sad to see 'Jesus He Knows Me' going, another great Genesis song. sad.gif

I am disappointed Rage's excellent Run To You cover only got 2 votes sad.gif

Down with 'Dancing Queen'. That to leave in the latest round of the 'least favourite...' ABBA Gold single polls etc. kink.gif

Those other two are brilliant qualifiers though! Especially 'Ebeneezer Goode' *.*

QUALIFIED

>> 2 Unlimited - No Limit <<

>> Duran Duran - Ordinary World <<

>> Robin S - Show Me Love <<

>> Take That - Could It Be Magic <<

>> Ultravox - Vienna <<

Another two huge dance hits of the 90s, 'No Limit' and 'Show Me Love' thankfully make their way through (I love those as you probably guessed), joined by Ultravox 'Vienna' (an 80s hit re-released in time for this volume) and okay tracks from Duran Duran and Take That. Poor Bluebells once again sad.gif and sad to see Snow's catchy bop doesn't get through sad.gif

Could It Be Magic is one of Take That's best imo, I like the whole energy of it and the Duran Duran ballad is great. No Limit and Show Me Love through cheer.gif , but then that seemed likely anyway!

That cross-promo still couldn't get 'Hazard' more than 5 votes drama.gif

Surprised Janet and Spin Doctors weren't closer to qualifying.

I need 'Return To Innocence' to make it in the next one pls

Are we seriously ditching The Prodigy in favour of that Salt N Pepa & En Vogue song? smh. sleep.gif Well at least we have 2 out of 3 good qualifiers with Blur and Pretenders going through, but neither are among my absolute faves and I suspect we won't be seeing any songs from this volume in the semi-finals.

sob.gif 'Return To Innocence' is probably one of my favourites from the entire series. At least from the '90s at minimum. 'Sweet Lullaby' deserves better too!

I thought The Prodigy would be safely through! 'Whatta Man' is really good but that's disappointing. 'Swamp Thing' doing reasonably well jump.gif
