G'day Midge coffee.gif

Ariana at #1 is lovely to see, and lovely entering at #99 is... Ariana to see?

Love the climbs into the Top 30 by Camila, Bastille, & George Ezra wub.gif Quarter Past Midnight is a great song but tbh I'm a little bit over it now.. bring on the album! laugh.gif I have high hopes for Bastille's newest album, off the top of my head their upcoming album is one of just four albums I'm looking forward to for the rest of this year I think! Now that Justin, George, Camila, etc. etc. my album chart staples have released their albums all that remains are Bastille, Gorillaz, Panic! At The Disco and Clean Bandit. I'm sure more will pop up eventually though. Actually Emma Blackery's debut album is out August so I am looking forward to that also. I actually think I'm in love with her so I'm hyped for her music, Agenda is the best thing she's released so far tbh. I know she's not on your chart so idk why I'm talking about her... but what can you do?

Ooohhhhh Saturday Sun should actually enter my chart this week. I feel I've said that a few times but this week 100% by the looks of things, Vance Joy has such a "hot but not sweltering hot" feel to his music I think. Perfect for the sort of weather we have right now

Snow Patrol dotted around the Top 100 is nice to see, I'm only just checking out their album now but I'm enjoying it so far and Don't Give In is definitely growing on me more & more. Life On Earth is sounding good too

Great chart wink.gif

hi Midge!

Fuego kicked off #1 already then? ohmy.gif Well the Ariana song is better so yay. Nice to see M-22 and Jess Glynne creeping up in your top 10 and Drake at #5 (what is this parallel universe I'm in where you love a Drake song?!)
My faves of your new entries are This Is America, Family Tree, Man Down, Sit Back Down and Panic Room. A fair bit of good urban there and I'm really getting into Panic Room now.

great chart!

Hello Midge!
I really like the top 10, all the songs are great!
My favourite big gainers from your chart are: "Familiar", "Quarter Past Midnight", "Shotgun" "La Cintura", "Girlfriend", "Hunger", "High Five", "Solo", "If You're Over Me", "Girls", "Sangria Wine", "Ultimatum", "Start Again" and "Us"! Some of those songs are already in my top 10 and some will be in my top 10 in the future! My charts are always crazy around summer time!
And my favourite debuts and re-entries from your chart are "This Is America", "Family Tree", "Playinwitme", "Man Down", "Nevermind", "Lovely" and "Rise"!
Great chart as always!

Alright Barb?! I see what you did there re: Ariana/lovely wink.gif

I am really liking "Quarter Past Midnight" - but it is struggling to stand out over some songs that feel bigger right now... I think the last time I felt "big" from Bastille was either "Good Grief" or "Torn Apart" which I was shocked flopped! It doesn't seem to be doing anything in the UK charts does it :/ It should make it to my top 10/5 I'd think. Maybe by the time it gets there it will have grown further. You just NEVER KNOW, Dexton!

Interesting choices for albums! I'm starting to expect less and less from the Clean Bandit album. I think we've heard the cream. It's all starting to sound a bit too polished and stuff. That being said "Solo" is growing on me, the more I hear it and get used to the stupid SFX...

Gorillaz I have to say, I don't enjoy as much these days. "Doncamatic" was their last massive hit on my chart (it hit number 1, would you believe!) *listens to that again* OMG I love this song wub.gif I am actually looking forward to hearing the song that was in the promo on their website (I think it was) - that sounds like it could be a right banger tbh. I'm kind of over Panic! At The Disco too. In fact I've never been THAT into them in all honesty. Their new stuff doesn't excite me that much. But then all you need is that one song to turn that around...

Agree re: Vance Joy. "Saturday Sun" is a nice song, if a little twee... it isn't impacting on me to the level that "We're Going Home" did earlier this year, though that also had the Australia factor in it too. Though also quite frankly I think it was a much better song. "Saturday Sun" feels a bit like the kind of song you'd hear used on an advert for holidays or something laugh.gif I wonder what the next singles will be?

Glad you're enjoying the Snow Patrol album - it is really good! My favourite from them to date I think. Watch out for "Empress" and "What If This Is All The Love You Ever Get?" in my chart in the coming weeks. Also check out the new Kooks material!!!

Hello hello! I'm also glad to see the M-22 track becoming a hit. Happy to see any 120BPM+ dance song become a hit these days. I think the ones that do are the ones we'd have seen go in at #1 in the old held-back releases days. Perhaps this one is more of a top 3 though tongue.gif

The Silk City track is decent I agree! I'm looking forward to more. I'm listening to it a lot in my exercise warm ups at the moment.

"Panic Room" is another one that is growing on me now; I'm making sure I listen to it. There's just so much music out there that it's hard to keep on top of everything smile.gif

Hello DanG-erMaus

"Fuego" had a couple of weeks at the top! There are two reasons it fell this week really - 1. Eurovision buzz dying down, though it was looking set to spend a 3rd week at the top initially... 2. the Ariana track just suddenly really clicked with me in the week; plus I was in Manchester for the latter part of the week - had an interview, got the job, moving there soon! And it all seemed to represent the whole thing nicely - Ariana is like Oasis to Manchester these days, if you get me, though for all the wrong reasons sadly.

Also where have I given the impression that I don't like Drake? tongue.gif I simply don't like shit songs that have someone mumbling over a generic beat - "God's Plan", "Diplomatic Immunity" and "I'm Upset" are all examples of this, just dull, they go nowhere, they're crap songs. I guess he's *always* done tracks like that - those are the ones I ignore - it's just now he's so popular, they're doing well in the charts too. Well, "God's Plan" did at least. I *still* don't get it laugh.gif Drake has had some great tracks though, with melodies, great lyrics, structures, etc. He's had number 1s in my chart - most recently "One Dance" and "Hotline Bling" for instance. Just to clear that up tongue.gif Also I love "Ex-Factor" by Lauryn Hill to pieces, and it's nice to hear it sampled here. So yes, I am not a Drake hater by any means!

Good selection of songs you like of the newies there - I'm finding it really easy for a lot of urban tracks to pass me by these days, but those ones in particular have stuck out for me and grown.

Hello Sergej!

That is quite some selection there! I'm intrigued to see what you'll like of the newies in my new chart... there are 17, so a bit of a clearout! Well, it feels like it, even though 17 out of 100 doesn't seem much - it actually is tongue.gif

I'm intrigued as to why your charts are crazy around summer time? smile.gif

Thanks all for commenting again - I will get around to checking your charts out - I apologise, it has been a big week with the job interview/offer/starting plans to move and everything! smile.gif

Ah fair enough, there's always been 2 sides to Drake I find. I like a bit of both but the melodic Drake is usually better, he's not as great when he's just rapping without any proper hook.

I imagine Manchester must love the new Ariana song after how she handled everything, though according to Spotify she's most listened to in London, more than anywhere else in the world. My brother lives in Manchester too at the moment, quite a nice place from what I've seen of it when I went up.

I think you're right about Drake. I need to make a 'best of' (IMO) playlist to pop on this summer. There's plenty I like. I'm even alright listening to "God's Plan" when it's part of a Drake-athon. I tend to pop some of his songs on in a random order at times.

I'm super excited about moving to Manchester; it's just so vibrant, friendly, cultural and there's such a sense of pride, especially after what happened last year.

Hi Midge!

Great to see The Kooks still on their way up, All the Time is a real grower so it will probably do similar in my chart this week

Empress is great also, my favourite since Don't Give in in terms of this era - I need to give the other album tracks a listen since I'm sure there are some gems in there!

I'm enjoying Family Tree a lot more than Barking, it seems a lot more close-to-home and the tune is better as well. Shame its falling as well officially sad.gif

Great chart biggrin.gif

Hey Pete!

"All The Time" is fab - a real possibility it could climb to the top in the coming weeks.

Also agree re: "Empress"! Really loving this new Snow Patrol era.

I can't say I think "Family Tree" is that amazing - it's alright, "Barking" for me was elevated by the Alex Adair remix which was great.

Thanks for commenting. This week's chart is incoming!

Hello Midge!
I like that "I Like It" is in your top 10!
Great big gains for: "Shotgun", "Girlfriend", "High Five", "Solo", "If You're Over Me", "This Is America", "Sangria Wine", "Nevermind", "Ultimatum", "Rise", "Man Down" and "Lovely"!
As for your debuts: I like "Give Yourself A Try", "Youth", "Lost My Mind", "Colors", "Back To You", "Youngblood", "LOVE." and "Girls Like You"!
I found "Yikes", "Good Goodbye", "Humility", "There's A Reason Why (I Never Returned Your Calls" and "Chun-Li" decent.
But I didn't heard "Sticks And Stones", "The Last Of The Real Ones" and "Don't" yet, might listen to them soon.
Great chart as always!

Hey there Midge hi.gif

I very much approve of Ariana still occupying your top spot *.* looking forward to more from this era with such a stellar start to it! Lots of new entries this time ohmy.gif I think my ultimate highlights from those are The 1975, Kanye, Gorillaz and Kendrick! I've only heard 'Yikes' once so far but it was really striking on the chart show wub.gif

I just made a best of Drake playlist myself following on from this, he's got more than enough for one and I think it needs cutting down a bit further still as it has about 60 songs on it so far.

from your new entries this week I like..
The 1975, strong comeback from them and potentially their 2nd best song yet (nothing can beat 'Chocolate')
Kanye West, I listened to the "album" (more like an EP with that 23 minute run time really) and it's a bit disappointing on the whole but I enjoy 'Yikes' and 'All Mine' enough to stick on my playlist.
Nicki Minaj, took a few listens for me but 'Chun-Li' is great, I like that she's not trying to get cheap pop hits now (good as some of them were) as she is rather great as a rapper, hope the album is of similar quality.

great chart!

Hey Sergej!

I'm not a Cardi B fan but I love "I Like It" - the sample is killer, I love the way it flows, it's just such a cool track that has captured the current trend perfectly I think. A potential number 1.

Another big selection there for your favourites - though I guess there are 100 tracks to pick from tongue.gif

Nelly Furtado covered Arlissa's "Sticks And Stones" for her latest album and it has been mixed and turned into a dance single by Metro - I really quite like this version smile.gif Great song in the first place, of course.

"The Last Of The Real Ones" is a good choice for new single for Fall Out Boy (well, it has been sent to radio stations, at least - what is a single these days?) - I'm still not too sure about the album "M A N I A" but this one, like "Hold Me Tight, Or Don't" still feels like it has their signature. It's a proper uptempo romper this time.

"Don't" is taken from the Big Little Lies Soundtrack - not sure if you saw that, a TV series last year - season 2 is scheduled for next year. "Don't" is used in the finale. We re-watched the series a couple of weeks ago hence giving the soundtrack (whcih is great, btw) a breath of life smile.gif

Hello Jade!

I was thinking Ariana wouldn't actually make it, but she now seems to have solidified her claim for the top spot while Jess very well may have peaked - I thought she'd have been a shoe in for a couple of weeks at the top. Jess may yet get it this Friday, we shall see! With the Ariana track I was having a bit of an issue with the spoken word bits; it felt like it killed the flow but I'm over that now. I suspect it might be the same with the Clean Bandit sfx in "Solo"...

Really loving new The 1975 - and I really quite like "Yikes" from Kanye too. Need to give the album (EP?) another listen really.

Hello Dan smile.gif

60 songs, wow! I think my list would probably be about 15-20 songs long though that's still a good listen.

Another mention for The 1975 - good stuff - I do think they're an acquired taste but I think they're excellent. One of my favourite acts of the 2010s actually. I'm not sure if "Chocolate", "Love Me" or "The Sound" are my favourite but "Give Yourself A Try" could insert itself nicely up the top somewhere. A potential number 1 for me anyhow.

I really liked "Ghost Town" and also "All Mine" from the Kanye album (EP). Need to give it another listen.

I haven't been much exposed to "Chun-Li" - part of the reason for its late entry - so like you it has taken a few listens. I can't see it making many waves on my chart to be honest but it's enough to enter. I get that she's talented but I guess it's a bit like with Cardi B - it's just not my thing though the odd track will stick out! She's obviously a fantastic rapper and she has had some great commercial hits in the past.

Thanks all for commenting again smile.gif

Big climb for The 1975! ohmy.gif I don't mind it but they've done much better before tbh (although I never really got into Chocolate, Love Me/Ugh wub.gif)

Nice to see Cardi B climbing further up your chart. It's had a bit of a resurgence with me lately so It'll probably shoot back up my chart this week tongue.gif So happy she's getting a huge worldwide hit out of this, even if it is capitalising on current trends (but who isn't doing that these days anyway). Further heart.gif to Shotgun and She Loves Control! Camila really needs to release that as a single, what is she doing?! Could potentially give her a record-breaking third #1 on my chart if it was given the full single treatment, video and all dance.gif

Bastille Top 20 wub.gif I'm a little bit over QPM but it hasn't stopped me from being super excited for their album

Poor sweet Saturday Sun falling too early :'( It's finally gone Top 50 over here this week which is amazing, his 8th song to do so!

Great chart wink.gif

Oh I like the retro touch too tongue.gif It confused me at first because I was wondering why you were charting such random songs in June 2016 but then it clicked it wasn't that sort of retro chart laugh.gif +1 to the When You Were Young love, running The Killers Rate got me listening to them a lot more now wub.gif

Hello Midge!
Nice gains for "Give Yourself A Try", "X", "Shotgun" and "She Loves Control" into the top 10!
Also great huge gains for "Solo", "This Is America", "Pink Lemonade", "Nevermind", "Lost My Mind", "Youngblood", "Rise", "Back To You", "Lovely" and "There's A Reason Why"!
Finally I like all of your re-entries!
Great chart as always!

Hello Barb!
I've been really enjoying "Give Yourself A Try" so far - it re-sparked my interest for them and have been enjoying their singles discography playlist a lot. It's wearing off a bit now so hitting its peak - but will that peak be number 1? ohmy.gif

I'm really liking "I Like It" - I am surprised it isn't almost "Havana" big actually. Perhaps that is still yet to come. Not a Cardi B fan otherwise.

"She Loves Control" is a really good pop song, I agree. Not "Havana" good though. But solid and an obvious single choice.

Bastille continuing to rise indeed - but given my indie-pop and pop-rock interest has re-spiked this year, it perhaps says a lot that this hasn't leapt up like the 1975 and Kooks singles. I guess I don't feel this is Bastille at their very best - perhaps them going through the motions - but still a good single nevertheless. Maybe I should try the Bastille singles discography treatment this week tongue.gif

Great that "Saturday Sun" has made the Australian chart! It's a shame he isn't successful elsewhere. "Riptide" deserved to be number 1 globally but he has so many great songs and of course "We're Going Home" hit my number 2 spot earlier this year. "Saturday Sun" feels a bit twee - while decent - isn't standing out over other tracks. It sounds like it should be used in an advert laugh.gif Do you know what I mean? #27 is still a good peak nevertheless - that's of course if it doesn't re-peak later. I wonder what the next single will be?

Thanks for commenting as always! Glad you like the retro touch! It's a fun way to catalogue those classic songs that are re-impacting me. I've made a load of 20 indie-pop/pop-rock/alternative playlists recently that I've been flicking through whilst watching the world cup and playing my PS4. I'm feeling a bit leisurely now I've got my job in ICT that doesn't start until later this year tongue.gif
