Paul Dacre, who has combined his job as editor of the Daily Mail with that of being co-Prime Minister with Rupert Murdoch since 1992, is to step down in November.

well when you cant get rid of someone who is shite at their job, the only alternative is to promote them to a post where they can do some REAL damage.

Fingers-crossed!

Very droll.

Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre is stepping down after more than a quarter of a century in the role.

He will become chairman of Associated Newspapers, which is owned by the company DMGT, and its editor-in-chief.

Associated also owns the Mail on Sunday, Metro and the Mail Online, the world's most popular English language newspaper website.

It's seems that even despite its opposition here, even the Beeb acknowledges the Mail's popularity. It's popular because because it reflects the opinions of many people whose views are ignored, or dismissed as 'bigotry', elsewhere.

not dismissed "as bigotry". Dismissed because they ARE bigoted. There are many examples where they have crossed that line, as defined by the meaning of the word "bigotry".

Does it count as 'bigotry' just to want to discuss *any* negative consequences of immigration? unsure.gif

The new editor will be Geordie Greig. Intriguingly he was previously editor of the Mail on Sunday which supported Remain.

But I'm not talking about overt racism - that tends to be obvious, and rightly condemned. It is the shutting down of legitimate debate that concerns me, e.g. overuse of limited resources, or insufficient vetting of economic migrants/asylum seekers.

*bangs head through brick wall*

That debate isn’t being shut down. What’s being shut down is out and out racism. Saying that Britain is “full” is a stone cold lie to cover up racist intent. Nothing more.

Are our resources stretched? Absolutely! Is cutting ourselves off from our primary trading partner and letting the neonazis take over the answer to the problem? Hell the f*** no it ain’t!

What the far right see as “shutting down the debate” isn’t the debate being shut down at all, it’s decent people trying to focus on the source of the issue rather than going for a racist “solution” that will f*** us all in the mid to long term. The actual answer to our stretched resources is an end to Austerity and proper governmental investment in education, health, infrastructure and retraining for those impacted by the closure of traditional industry.

As for the second thing you raise. That’s just bullshit. The UK government vetting is thorough, in-depth and time consuming. How anyone can sit here and say people aren’t vetted when we’re constantly seeing stories of LGBT people fleeing countries where it’s illegal to be LGBT being asked to submit f***ing evidence they’re gay. Honestly you disgust me

I never said *full* - stretched, perhaps.

If you're gonna spew such vile, hateful things that paint you as being a horrendous person then be prepared to take the backlash.

---------------

Gotta say, a major shocker at Paul Dacre being replaced as editor of the Daily Nazi by such a staunch pro-remainer and liberal by comparison in Geordie Greig. I know that c**t Dacre has essentially been promoted to a higher position, but are we now about to witness a significant shift in our political landscape as a result of this? This is not small news!

How is complaining about debate being shut down 'vile & heinous'? huh.gif

ISTM you are perfectly illustrating my point here - whenever someone raises an issue the left are uncomfortable with, they resort to ad hominem attacks, and/or sweeping the issue under the carpet, rather than open honest debate. IMO if that had been done, Remain could easily have won the Referendum, but in their inflexibility they united the anti-EU forces against them.

And I'm pointing out that the Mail has overtly racist headlines and articles, every other day of the week. One in-depth article and a few column comments pointing out the downsides to immigration (there are downsides to everything in the world) is not the same as relentless desperate headlines drumming up anti-immigrant feeling week after week after week.

Because you are constantly defending the indefensible. Try to get a more rounded approach to things, comment on areas you feel need work and stop seeing the UK as being in need of extremist radical action because of rich foreigners pushing propaganda.

Gay men in Iran, for example, get hanged in public for being gay. It's quite reasonable to agree that giving refuge is more than the right thing to do, they don't become a drain on society (generally not having children requiring benefits, don't jump housing queues, have to be totally self-sufficient) and can add to the workforce that god-knows is struggling already to get people to do some jobs.

You always see things in black and white and consistently fail to look at the wider picture. Being aware of problems does not mean that a knee-jerk reaction "f*** them all" response is needed, you sort through the problems one by one. That's why Brexit is a shambles. Run by morons with no forward planning or understanding. That's why the EU is so efficient. Run by people who at least TRY to plan for every eventuality (that is impossible in the real world, but it reduces problems).

Stopping seeing us all as some amorphous like-minded blob known as 'the left' would be a start. I could make a comment about how if the left truly all thought the same then a left-leaning government would be in power and Remain would have won anyway but macroextrapolation is a bit of a poor debating practice so I'm not going to do that.

Not hopping on some transparent high ground and crying foul when people get justifiably angry at you for what you say would also be good. While across the internet, platforms are only increasing the ability for debate not to get shut down, that's not even the case here. The only time your debate is getting 'shut down' is when a moderator deletes your posts. That is not happening here. Do carry on.

I would be happy to, as long as other posters reciprocate by not stereotyping Leavers as 'ignorant/gullible Europhobes'.

I don't think I've actually had posts deleted, but I did once get a 2 day suspension, which might have been more apt if it had been *just* from News & Politics, rather than all of Buzzjack, especially if I'd been given a warning first. thinking.gif
