jump to list of qualifiers

Andrew has counted up all your nominations (a real effort especially this time around with loads of songs people are familiar with) and later this afternoon I will reveal which songs will go to the QUALIFIER ROUND and which songs will go straight to the BIN.

The top 50 most nominated songs, regardless of volume, will qualify. Because let's be real, some NOW! albums are better than others and we'd like the qualifier rounds to reflect that (and if we put through 5 per album as we said earlier, there'd be some truly shocking qualifiers and non-qualifiers).

This time there will be 58 songs going through, a few more than last time, but the cut-off is now 18 nominations, the largest yet. Any song with less than 18 nominations will not make it through. In the last round 15 nominations was enough but the quality has seemingly shot up this time and as such there will be quite a few brutal cuts.

NOW! 41: 02
NOW! 42: 03
NOW! 43: 07
NOW! 44: 07
NOW! 45: 06
NOW! 46: 08
NOW! 47: 09
NOW! 48: 04
NOW! 49: 08
NOW! 50: 04

Not so much an even spread this time around, there is a clear divide between the most-loved and least here. Volume 41 may have the most casualties yet as only two songs are going through from that.

Also in this thread I will reveal the ten songs from volumes 31-40 that will qualify to the semi-finals. With so many classics in the first round, there are bound to be many brutal cuts and indeed some volumes will have no representation at all in the semi-finals. You may still vote in the previous qualifier until 7pm.

Any predictions before we get going then? ohmy.gif

QUALIFIED

>> Robbie Williams - Millennium <<

>> The Cardigans - My Favourite Game <<

The only two qualifiers here are from Robbie Williams with his first EVER #1 jameela.jpg hit 'Millennium', noted for its orchestral elements. The other is perhaps an unexpected qualifier considering there's only two of these but The Cardigans manage to make it through with 'My Favourite Game', which joins 'Lovefool' in the list of songs to have qualified here. I was really hoping Stardust would also be here but they didn't get quite enough votes unfortunately, falling short by 2 votes.

QUALIFIED

>> Cher - Believe <<

>> Fatboy Slim - Praise You <<

>> Vengaboys - We Love To Party! (The Vengabus) <<

Cher with her massive comeback single 'Believe' was always going to qualify, and as one of the best songs of the 90s I'm glad it did. It is also joined by Fatboy Slim's signature hit 'Praise You' and also the Vengaboys *_ with their second chart hit 'We Love To Party!', a great bit of cheesy dance pop.

QUALIFIED

>> ATB - 9PM ('Till I Come) <<

The debut chart appearance for ATB and a huge #1 hit, so rather unsurprisingly this gets big dance-bloc support, a common theme for the qualifiers from this volume..

>> Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way <<

..but boyband pop gets a look in too. It took them until their 8th top ten to get a number one hit but they did it with this song, their most popular on Buzzjack too. Not that bad of a song either.

>> Chicane (feat. Maire Brennan) - Saltwater <<

Another big trance hit and probably Chicane's most well known and regarded too, what a beauty of a song, and with his new album out this week I've been revisiting this song a bit too.

>> DJ Jurgen pts. Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone <<

A huge dance hit here, the 90s were full of these, it was the debut hit for Alice Deejay and a truly iconic song too.

>> Fatboy Slim - Right Here, Right Now <<

The other big Fatboy Slim hit of the 90s, though this one didn't make it to #1. Good to see this through as I prefer it to 'Praise You' anyhow.

>> The Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy, Hey Girl <<

And in come the Chem Bros again with one of their best regarded songs, another good one to rep the dance-bloc.

>> Vengaboys - Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom <<

Vengaboys getting another qualifier here who'd have thought?! This is another good'un from them though and their first #1.

DID NOT QUALIFY

Shanks & Bigfoot – Sweet Like Chocolate 17
New Radicals – You Get What You Give 17
S Club 7 – Bring It All Back 16
Baz Luhrmann – Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) 15
Phats & Small – Turn Around 13
Basement Jaxx – Red Alert 13
Yomanda – Synth & Strings 9
Geri Halliwell – Look At Me 8
Blur – Coffee & TV 8
Stereophonics – Pick A Part That's New 8
Texas – In Our Lifetime 7
Adam Rickitt – I Breathe Again 5
Bryan Adams – Cloud Number Nine 5
Semisonic – Secret Smile 5
Martine McCutcheon – Perfect Moment 4
Tina Cousins – Forever 4
Supergrass – Pumping On Your Stereo 4
Lolly – Viva La Radio 3
Honeyz – Love Of A Lifetime 3
The Wiseguys – Ooh La La 3
Precious – Say It Again 2
911 – Private Number 2

'Saltwater' is indeed beautiful and amazing, may we get another hit like it next decade when (hopefully) trance comes back into popularity.

QUALIFIED

>> Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time <<

The first hit for Britney Spears and a huge hit, one of Buzzjack's icons so this was of course going to qualify. I quite like it but she does have a few better songs.

>> Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee) <<

Another huge hit and this was actually the most nominated for song out of all of this NOW decade (alongside another song we'll get to later). Buzzjack clearly love a novelty dance hit when it's done this well.

>> Lou Bega - Mambo No.5 (A Little Bit Of...) <<

This one was also a #1 hit and very popular at kids discos at the time and in the years to come so it's got that going for it.

>> S Club 7 - S Club Party <<

Another kids disco classique, and you seem to love a bit of S Club 7 because they have a few songs yet to qualify also.

>> Shania Twain - That Don't Impress Me Much <<

A huge hit for her here and doing pop-country many years before Bebe Rexha invented it, another obvious qualifier.

>> Sixpence None The Richer - Kiss Me <<

I thought this was rather underrated but clearly not, you all love it. Very 'MOR' but that helps it in this case, it has something going for it.

>> Steps - Tragedy <<

Steps aren't quite as loved here as their main competition S Club 7 but they do manage to get this through, a Bee Gees cover which quickly became more associated with Steps, as their biggest hit so that makes sense.

DID NOT QUALIFY

Geri Halliwell – Mi Chico Latino 17
Moloko – Sing It Back 17
Enrique Iglesias – Bailamos 17
Robbie Williams – She's The One 16
Wamdue Project – King Of My Castle 15

Vengaboys – We're Going To Ibiza 12
Melanie C – Northern Star 11
Texas – Summer Son 10
Alice Deejay – Back In My Life 10
Tin Tin Out feat. Emma Bunton – What I Am 9
Backstreet Boys – Larger Than Life 9
Ann Lee – 2 Times 9
Bob Marley vs Funkstar De Luxe – Sun Is Shining 8
ATB – Don't Stop 8

'Kiss Me' I remember on the radio loads when I was younger. Lovely song. I also remember 'You Get What You Give' loads on the radio in about 1999 which I really liked at the time, pity it didn't qualify here sad.gif

QUALIFIED

>> Artful Dodger (feat. Craig David) - Re-Rewind <<

The first chart appearance for both Artful Dodger and Craig David launching a long career for Craig and being one of the biggest garage anthems ever.

>> Blink-182 - All The Small Things <<

The biggest hit for pop-punk band Blink-182, it's alright but I prefer 'What's My Age Again' and 'I Miss You'.

>> Craig David - Fill Me In <<

Another Craig David track and his first solo hit and #1 hit.

>> Fragma - Toca's Miracle <<

Doing it for trance in this volume are Fragma with a big #1 hit, one of the few in 2000 to spend two weeks at the top.

>> Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby <<

Back when everything was going to #1 so here's another two #1 hits going through, this one's a great funky house tune..

>> Melanie C (feat. Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes) - Never Be The Same Again <<

..and this isn't, a rather boring song imo but 20 of you liked it. Her biggest solo hit too excluding her feature on Bryan Adams 'When You're Gone', and yes we're now well into the era of Solo Spice.

Kicking straight off with more favourites missing out by 1-2 votes then... why couldn't Stardust have just been one edition earlier pirate.gif and FFS at Shanks & Bigfoot as well (and Wamdue Project but at least that was 'as much as' 3 votes away).

On the positive side, nice to see both of the big Fatboy Slim hits making it as well as ATB, The Cardigans, The Chemical Brothers, Chicane and Sixpence None The Richer. x (edit: yay Artful Dodger/Craig David and blink-182 too).

Gah, so many great songs not making it! I guess we've reached the stage where I like loads on each edition so all of these results will probably be at least a bit painful laugh.gif yay for ATB, Chicane, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Artful Dodger and Melanie C being through amongst others, though. C'mon Roger Sanchez!!

QUALIFIED

>> *NSync - Bye Bye Bye <<

Following on from Backstreet Boys a few volumes earlier we now have *NSync with one of their biggest hits and partly the inspiration for Anne-Marie's '2002'.

>> Britney Spears - Oops!...I Did It Again <<

And here's another song perhaps helped by Anne-Marie, a big #1 for Britney Spears, her third #1 hit.

>> Coldplay - Yellow <<

We're finally into the beginning of the Coldplay era of music, this was their first big hit and first of many NOW appearances. This one isn't one of my Coldplay faves anyhow.

>> Darude - Sandstorm <<

This one simply had to go through, a proper dance classique and one everyone should know what it is called by now.

>> Kylie Minogue - Spinning Around <<

Getting into the Kylie renaissance now and here's a #1 hit to start it off, one of her greats.

>> S Club 7 - Reach <<

This one is a bit too cheesy but it was a very big hit so I'm not surprised it manages to qualify here.

>> Sonique - It Feels So Good <<

Another big dance hit now, and this one stopped 'Reach' from getting to #1 thankfully.

>> Spiller (feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor) - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) <<

And finally more dance yay! This one was a really huge hit anyway and it's one of the best of its time so very happy it is through.

QUALIFIED

>> All Saints - Pure Shores <<

A real Buzzjack favourite here which I believe topped the rate for best girlband singles ever so it could go far in this.

>> Anastacia - I'm Outta Love <<

A decent pop song, but not one I'm fussed about qualifying.

>> Bon Jovi - It's My Life <<

This one is a bit surprising, but it is one of their biggest hits for a band with a long successful career.

>> Craig David - 7 Days <<

Another Craig David track going through and this is his least surprising with it being his biggest song.

>> LeAnn Rimes - Can't Fight The Moonlight <<

Her only #1 hit and also the only song of hers I like.

>> Melanie C - I Turn To You (Hex Hector Mix) <<

Another qualifier for Melanie C and this one is a bit more dancey!

>> Modjo - Lady (Hear Me Tonight) <<

A great funky house track here, great to see this one in.

>> Robbie Williams - Rock DJ <<

One of Robbie's best and most iconic songs so good to see this is liked here.

>> Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 <<

Yay for this qualifying too, a brilliant trance banger.

QUALIFIED

>> Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood (Ed Case & Sweetie Irie Refix) <<

Wasn't sure if it'd make it through considering it isn't the original, but enough of you like the remix version too!

>> Nelly Furtado - I'm Like A Bird <<

Well this is okay, not one I can really see going far in the qualifier round though.

>> S Club 7 - Never Had A Dream Come True <<

Not a fan, it's boring and cheesy, but it gets more than enough votes to get in.

>> Shaggy (feat. Ricardo "RikRok" Ducent) - It Wasn't Me <<

Great to see this appreciated on Buzzjack. An iconic tune. *.*

Quite surprised to see 'Whole Again' not making it but it's quite overrated tbh so not a big loss for me. YAY Gorillaz *.*

Nervous for the next set of results laugh.gif

Ooh, actually good results there *.* 'Clint Eastwood', 'I'm Like A Bird' and 'It Wasn't Me' are 3 of the best on there and I've never been keen on 'Whole Again'. Papa Roach deserved better tho.

Yass for Zombie Nation as well (and Anastacia / Craig / Modjo / Robbie 'Rock DJ')
