jump to list of qualifiers

Andrew has counted up all your nominations and later this afternoon I will reveal which songs will go to the QUALIFIER ROUND and which songs will go straight to the BIN.

The top 50 most nominated songs, regardless of volume, will qualify. Because let's be real, some NOW! albums are better than others and we'd like the qualifier rounds to reflect that (and if we put through 5 per album as we said earlier, there'd be some truly shocking qualifiers and non-qualifiers).

This time there will be exactly 50 songs going through, and the cut-off will remain at 18 nominations, still the largest yet. Any song with less than 18 nominations will not make it through. As such there will be quite a few brutal cuts. Trust me I'd love to put in the ones that got 17 nominations too (nine of those!) but I gotta stick by my rules.

NOW! 51: 03
NOW! 52: 05
NOW! 53: 02
NOW! 54: 08
NOW! 55: 03
NOW! 56: 06
NOW! 57: 08
NOW! 58: 06
NOW! 59: 04
NOW! 60: 05

Not so loved this time around are volumes 51, 53 and 55, and really loved were volumes 54 and 57. Otherwise it's fairly even.

Also in this thread I will reveal the ten songs from volumes 41-50 that will qualify to the semi-finals. With so many classics in the first round, there are bound to be many brutal cuts and indeed some volumes will have no representation at all in the semi-finals. You may still vote in the previous qualifier until I have completed the results from the nominations round.

Any predictions before we get going then? ohmy.gif

And we're off!

QUALIFIED

>> Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Thru This <<

and the first qualifier to be announced is this bop, the biggest song to come from the garage sub-genre and launching Daniel Bedingfield's career, and he was very big for a few years before a rather sudden decline perhaps not helped by his later music being rather boring.

>> Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder On The Dancefloor <<

A big song for her coming off the back of her 'Groovejet' feature and another reasonably sized hit in 'Take Me Home' though this is what she is most remembered for

>> Nickelback - How You Remind Me <<

One of their few actual good songs, also their first hit and one that spent a very long time in the top ten for its time, eleven whole weeks.

QUALIFIED

>> Kylie Minogue - Love At First Sight <<

Another good Kylie song here from her 'disco era' and it follows 'Spinning' and 'Can't Get' from the previous round in progressing to the next stage.

>> Liberty X - Just A Little <<

Their first single following the rebrand from "Liberty", it got them their only #1 hit and is widely considered to be their best song.

>> Oasis - Stop Crying Your Heart Out <<

Oasis proving they still had it in the 00s came out with this strong ballad and it gives them another qualifier here. They have two more opportunities this round to qualify.

>> Scooter - The Logical Song <<

A big hit for Scooter revitalising their career and bringing hard trance to the top end of the chart, fun times. Great to see this make it in.

>> Sugababes - Freak Like Me <<

The first time we see Sugababes qualify here with their first #1 hit, and we'll probably be seeing even more of them throughout this and the next few rounds.

QUALIFIED

>> DJ Sammy & Yanou (feat. Do) - Heaven <<

Just two qualifiers from this volume and the first is exactly what you'd expect, being track one and a huge chart hit and Buzzjack favourite, even topping the Ultimate Dance rate once. Expected is great though in this case as this one definitely deserves a place in the qualifier round.

>> Eminem - Without Me <<

One of just two opportunities to put Eminem through as he notoriously refuses to licence his songs for these compilations, except for this song for some reason but let's not complain, it's one of his greats so it's good to have it in.

QUALIFIED

>> Busted - Year 3000 <<

I suspect we won't get any more Busted songs here because quite frankly none of them are nearly as iconic.

>> Coldplay - Clocks <<

One of Coldplay's biggest songs of their early period with a very recognisable piano riff, this one has no problem making it through.

>> Girls Aloud - Sound of the Underground <<

The first appearance here from the Girls and they will have many more chances to get other qualifiers, though for many this is still up with their absolute best.

>> Junior Senior - Move Your Feet <<

One of the 00s many iconic one hit wonder dance acts with a childhood fave.

>> Justin Timberlake - Like I Love You <<

Not just Girls Aloud, this volume also gave us the debut solo hit for JT who became one of the 00s biggest pop stars. A rather good debut too though he did better it a few times.

>> Nelly (feat. Kelly Rowland) - Dilemma <<

A huge hit from Nelly and also the first appearance for Kelly as a solo artist, no surprise it's through here as it's one of the big crossover urban hits of the decade.

>> Robbie Williams - Feel <<

Well into Robbie's career now he was still getting big hits such as this one, one of his best.

>> t.A.T.u. - All The Things She Said <<

A rather brilliant pop song and one that's very much loved by Buzzjack, it got the most nominations out of any song (tied with a few others), expect this one to go far.

QUALIFIED

>> 50 Cent - In Da Club <<

Buzzjack supposedly doesn't like the rap hits, but that's clearly nonsense as this one manages to make it through. One of the biggest and most iconic songs of the decade launching a big career for 50 Cent, glad to see it in.

>> Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River <<

Here's the second JT appearance in as many volumes, and perhaps 'Rock Your Body' could make it a third too. No surprise as it was another huge hit for him.

>> Tomcraft - Loneliness <<

And thankfully we do get a little bit of trance qualifying too just before the genre dies out in the chart and thus the NOW series. A fab song!! Sadly a few other dance songs just miss out though.

QUALIFIED

>> Beyoncι (feat. Jay-Z) - Crazy In Love <<

Long before they had babies they got together to properly launch Beyoncι's solo career with a huge hit. The first of probably quite a few qualifications for her.

>> The Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love? <<

Another big breakthrough single this time for The Black Eyed Peas with the biggest selling song of 2003 which also got some added relevance after its usage in the Manchester benefit concert last year.

>> Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body <<

Of course he was going to make it 3 in a row, and this is the strongest of those in my opinion too.

>> Michael Andrews (feat. Gary Jules) - Mad World <<

The Christmas number one single of 2003 and basically inventing the piano cover version too though few others managed to get near this quality.

>> Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex <<

The launch of Rachel Stevens as a solo artist with this rather good fun pop song which she never quite managed to better in her short career.

>> Sugababes - Hole In The Head <<

'Round Round' was unlucky enough to just miss out but this one joins 'Freak Like Me' in the qualifier round, also their third UK #1 hit.

QUALIFIED

>> The Black Eyed Peas - Shut Up <<

Another qualifier for them, it's easy to forget just how good their first era was but they had a lot of great songs in this period.

>> blink-182 - I Miss You <<

The other of their two top 10 hits and another one that's well remembered, even being referenced in The Chainsmokers #1 hit 'Closer'.

>> Britney Spears - Toxic <<

It's been a while since we've had a Britney qualifier but here she is again with one of the strongest singles she has in 'Toxic', a big #1 for her.

>> Fountains Of Wayne - Stacy's Mom <<

Not even a top 10 hit, but a rather iconic song nonetheless and surprisingly a big Buzzjack fave too.

>> Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out <<

A big indie hit (back when we could still get those regularly) and the debut hit for this band, a rather great song too.

>> Keane - Somewhere Only We Know <<

Another indie band debut and with a very lovely song, no surprise to see this in.

>> Kelis - Milkshake <<

Well we simply had to make room for this iconic song, a big #2 hit which really made Kelis big for a short while.

>> Snow Patrol - Run <<

We're being very kind to indie debuts, and here's yet another one, though like the other two here very deserving also. And as Leona's version won't be appearing in a future NOW we don't have to worry about her version doing better.

QUALIFIED

>> Anastacia - Left Outside Alone <<

Her biggest hit and also one that had a lengthy top 10 run, also a big contender for screechiest song of the 00s.

>> Keane - Everybody's Changing <<

Another great song from Keane, seems many of you agree they had quite a few great songs in this period.

>> O-Zone - Dragostea Din Tei <<

One of the most iconic songs of the decade, would've been tragic had this fallen already, good news is it qualifies though. biggrin.gif

>> Outkast - Hey Ya! <<

One of the longest running and biggest hits of the early 00s, recognisable by pretty much everyone for being the tune it is.

>> Scissor Sisters - Laura <<

'Comfortably Numb' just fell short but this one has no problem qualifying, a great catchy song from them.

>> Shapeshifters - Lola's Theme <<

And finally my personal favourite from this batch, a fab dance song and #1 hit! Excellent to see this in. dance.gif

QUALIFIED

>> The Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started <<

Another big hit for them and one of my faves of theirs too, they had so many good songs.

>> Eric Prydz - Call On Me <<

One of the best songs of the 00s in my opinion, a huge dance #1, very pleased that this is through. wub.gif

>> Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved <<

The first appearance from Maroon 5 (as neither 'Harder To Breathe' or 'This Love' made it onto a NOW compilation!) and one of their biggest songs. Not one of my faves but it's decent (and better than what they're putting out now).

>> Natasha Bedingfield - These Words <<

Her first #1 and the moment where she took her brothers place in chart land, for a few years anyway before she similarly fell spectacularly.

Lmao at so many Ronan Keating songs being nominated by nobody kink.gif

Michelle only getting 7 votes is the biggest crime here tbh sleep.gif

Ronan Keating really is the shitstain of the NOW! series. Zero nominations is more than he deserves. mad.gif

QUALIFIED

>> The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize <<

One of the biggest and best hits for The Chem Bros, this really was a must-have, good to see it in.

>> Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For? <<

The solo launch of Gwen only led to one of the best pop songs of the entire decade, so that definitely warrants a qualification here.

>> The Killers - Somebody Told Me <<

The first appearance for The Killers here, and with one of their best songs too, even better than the Spotify chart staple 'Mr. Brightside' which got overlooked by the NOW compilers.

>> Scissor Sisters - Filthy/Gorgeous <<

They're back again and this is a rather fun song so no complaints.

>> Stereophonics - Dakota <<

The best song they've ever put out, and their only #1 hit too. Another good inclusion here.
