jump to list of qualifiers

Andrew has counted up all your nominations and later this afternoon I will reveal which songs will go to the QUALIFIER ROUND and which songs will go straight to the BIN.

The top 50 most nominated songs, regardless of volume, will qualify. Because let's be real, some NOW! albums are better than others and we'd like the qualifier rounds to reflect that (and if we put through 5 per album as we said earlier, there'd be some truly shocking qualifiers and non-qualifiers).

This time there will be 54 songs going through, and the cut-off will remain at 18 nominations, still the largest yet. Any song with less than 18 nominations will not make it through. As such there will be quite a few brutal cuts.

NOW! 61: 03
NOW! 62: 07
NOW! 63: 01 ohmy.gif
NOW! 64: 03
NOW! 65: 10
NOW! 66: 07
NOW! 67: 06
NOW! 68: 07
NOW! 69: 05
NOW! 70: 05

Only one song going through from NOW! 63, any guesses as to which one it will be? On the other end quite a few have seven and NOW! 65 has a mammoth ten, a particularly strong one that.

Also in this thread I will reveal the ten songs from volumes 51-60 that will qualify to the semi-finals. With so many classics in the first round, there are bound to be many brutal cuts and indeed some volumes will have no representation at all in the semi-finals. Voting lines for that are now closed.

Any predictions before we get going then? ohmy.gif

QUALIFIED

>> Coldplay – Speed Of Sound <<

>> Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc <<

>> The Killers – Smile Like You Mean It <<

Gorillaz get more than enough votes to qualify here with surely one of the big contenders to win the whole decade with classique 'Feel Good Inc', who are joined by Coldplay and The Killers for a rather indie selection from this volume, not the strongest from those two but enjoyable. Kaiser Chiefs unfortunately just miss out though.

QUALIFIED

>> Coldplay – Fix You <<

>> Gorillaz – DARE <<

>> Gwen Stefani – Hollaback Girl <<

>> Kaiser Chiefs – I Predict A Riot <<

>> Kelly Clarkson – Since U Been Gone <<

>> Rihanna – Pon de Replay <<

>> Sugababes – Push The Button <<

Gorillaz and Coldplay get two in a row and not surprisingly either, as both are rather obvious Buzzjack faves. They are also this time joined by Kaiser Chiefs whose perhaps signature hit 'I Predict A Riot' easily gets through. Gwen Stefani couldn't get 'Rich Girl' in but the iconic 'Hollaback Girl' has no problems, nor does Kelly Clarkson's biggest pop anthem, one of the Sugababes' greatest and a strong debut by Rihanna who we will be seeing a LOT of in this NOW decade and the next few.

Unfortunately we get rid of Oasis' best song of the 00s by just one nomination, alongside dance anthem 'Doctor Pressure', the debut hit from the Pussycat Dolls and pop anthem/Brayfave 'Biology'.

QUALIFIED

>> Corinne Bailey Rae – Put Your Records On <<

Out of all the possible songs we could have had from this volume, it was of course Track 1 from Corinne Bailey Rae which became the only song to go through. This was clearly a fairly weak volume but there's a lot of songs I'd have chosen to be the one to go through over this.

DID NOT QUALIFY

QUALIFIED

>> Gnarls Barkley – Crazy <<

>> Nelly Furtado – Maneater <<

>> P!nk – Who Knew <<

Two huge #1s from the era from Gnarls Barkley and Nelly Furtado sail through alongside one of P!nk's better songs of the mid-00s 'Who Knew'. No surprises here. Unfortunately that means we lose the only NOW appearances from Infernal and Rogue Traders, Rihanna's SOS, Lily Allen's debut single Smile, a great Black Eyed Peas tune and my personal fave Supermode 'Tell Me Why'.

QUALIFIED

>> Amy Winehouse – Rehab <<

>> The Fratellis – Chelsea Dagger <<

>> Girls Aloud – Something Kinda Ooooh <<

>> Justin Timberlake – SexyBack <<

>> The Killers – When You Were Young <<

>> Nelly Furtado feat. Timbaland – Promiscuous <<

>> P!nk – U + Ur Hand <<

>> Scissor Sisters – I Don't Feel Like Dancin' <<

>> Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean – Hips Don't Lie <<

>> Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars <<

Geez this was such a strong volume. We get ten of these through but it still doesn't feel like enough. We get Amy Winehouse's and The Fratellis' breakthrough singles, Justin Timberlake's comeback, the biggest Scissor Sisters song, a Snow Patrol song you couldn't escape for years, Shakira's signature hit, another great Killers track and other big pop smashes for Girls Aloud, Nelly Furtado and P!nk.

There is unfortunately a distinct lack of dance bangers making it through so let's have a moment for David Guetta, Cascada, Fedde Le Grand and Bodyrox. wub.gif Also Rihanna missing out again and El Chombo sadly missing out by eight votes, though actually him getting ten votes is really impressive. A song. *.*

>> Calvin Harris – Acceptable In The 80's <<

>> Fall Out Boy – This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race <<

>> Kaiser Chiefs – Ruby <<

>> Klaxons – Golden Skans <<

>> MIKA – Grace Kelly <<

>> Nelly Furtado – Say It Right <<

>> Take That – Patience <<

Most impressively we get the debut hit for Calvin Harris doing very well in this, hopefully we'll see a lot more of him in future decades. Mika's huge debut hit and Take That's actual comeback single following ten years of absence also qualify. Nelly Furtado gets another song in with 'Say It Right' and indie continues to do well with Kaiser Chiefs, Klaxons and Fall Out Boy. Poor Mason was just 2 votes away from joining them too.

>> Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend <<

>> Fall Out Boy – Thnks Fr Th Mmrs <<

>> Gwen Stefani feat. Akon – The Sweet Escape <<

Amy Winehouse's most regarded track joins 'Rehab' in the qualifiers. Fall Out Boy get another one surprisingly, as do Gwen Stefani and Rihanna unsurprisingly. Avril's comeback hit and Kate Nash's debut also join them. Sadly Alex Gaudino is one vote away, this decade is really not looking good for the dance tracks.

Yay 'Feel Good Inc.', my 2nd favourite song ever, hope that can make it past the next round as well to make up for my #1 song falling short.

Shocked that 'Biology' isn't through! sad.gif but thank goodness that 'Something Kinda Ooooh' is, that just about makes up for it. wub.gif Praying that BuzzJack have let 'Sexy! No No No...' through as well because that is my ultimate Girls Aloud favourite.

Hellogoodbye deserved more

QUALIFIED

>> Britney Spears – Gimme More <<

>> Mark Ronson feat. Amy Winehouse – Valerie <<

>> Peter, Bjorn & John feat. Victoria Bergsman – Young Folks <<

>> Robyn with Kleerup – With Every Heartbeat <<

>> Sugababes – About You Now <<

>> Take That – Rule The World <<

>> Timbaland feat. D.O.E. & Keri Hilson – The Way I Are <<

Britney gets her first qualifier of the decade with 'Gimme More'. We get another Amy Winehouse song in this time with Mark Ronson. Sugababes and Take That also make additional appearances. Big Buzzjack fave 'With Every Heartbeat' has no trouble qualifying thankfully, and two nice surprises here from Timbaland with big #1 single 'The Way I Are' and indie anthem/Homebase advert song 'Young Folks'.

Which means we don't have Leona Lewis surprisingly, and she misses out by three nominations. I know the song isn't as loved here as much as it used to be but that is rather surprising. Also dance is done dirty again as Ida Corr, Freemasons and Groove Armada all miss out by just a few votes, and one of Kanye West's greats misses out too.

'Sexy! No No No...' absolutely robbed :/ pleased for 'The Way I Are' though as that was my next favourite song on this edition.

'Bleeding Love' not making it is a shock ohmy.gif never would've called Take That winning round #2 of that chart battle on BuzzJack kink.gif I do prefer 'Rule The World' though so yay.

QUALIFIED

>> Alphabeat – Fascination <<

>> Girls Aloud – Call The Shots <<

>> Kelly Rowland – Work [Freemasons Radio Edit] <<

>> Rihanna – Don't Stop The Music <<

>> Timbaland feat. OneRepublic – Apologize <<

Alphabeat qualify with their breakthrough hit which I'm not so keen on but I get its appeal. One of Girls Aloud's biggest pop anthems makes it in too alongside the fab Freemasons remix of Kelly Rowland 'Work' (yay), another huge Rihanna song and a second qualifier for Timbaland in a row who introduced us to OneRepublic with 'Apologize'. Again quite a few great tracks are just votes away from making it including those from Utah Saints, Kylie Minogue, Hot Chip to name the really close ones.

QUALIFIED

>> Coldplay – Violet Hill <<

>> Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris & Chrome – Dance Wiv Me <<

>> Pendulum – Propane Nightmares <<

>> Sam Sparro – Black & Gold <<

>> The Ting Tings – That's Not My Name <<

Not one of the Coldplay songs I'd have expected but 'Violet Hill' makes it through. Dizzee's huge 'Dance Wiv Me' also joins it and gives Calvin a second qualifier. Pendulum's biggest hit gets in which is great to see, as do the breakthrough hits for Sam Sparro (also the only hit in this case) and The Ting Tings. And once again more great songs are being left out like those from September, Mint Royale and Estelle.

DID NOT QUALIFY
