Been watching this on the satellite imagery from work - the area circled in red ISN'T cloud, but the smoke from this huge moorland fire that is raging just outside of Manchester. It has been going since Sunday and has been exacerbated by the very dry and hot conditions, which look likely to persist well into next week. Not good.. sad.gif

Is anyone effected by this ?

I’m flying home from Edinburgh tomorrow. I doubt it’ll cause enough havoc to warrant flights being cancelled, but we’ll see (also, as you can probably tell, I have no clue how close Manchester is to Edinburgh)

I’m concerned for one of my co-workers who lives at the edge of Stalybridge. They’ll be very close to edge of the fire so this must have been a long weekend for her and her family.

From what I’ve heard huge amounts of Greater Manchester have been forced to keep windows shut to avoid the smoke and driving conditions are grim around the M60. Police seem confident that there is no longer any danger to property as things stand. They could do with a couple of days of rain

250 Miles and on the west side of England. 4hrs 20mins by car roughly if you can get a clean run down the M74 & M6 or 3hrs 15mins by train

This summer has been crazy dry I think. Since mid April at least I think this is driest I've ever seen it where I live.

So shocked by this, you expect to see these kind of things happening in places like California or Australia, not over here. I can smell the burning where I am, and it was very hazy when I went out to work last night. Huge respect for the firefighters trying to get this under control in these conditions heart.gif

I can't help wondering whether there is any chance this will uncover any clues to the whereabouts of the body of the last victim of the Moors Murders.
