    Andrew's Review
Now That’s What I Call Music! 93 or Now 93 first hit the shop floors in the spring of 2016. It was given a fresh Spring look and featured 44 tracks containing a total of 7 UK #1 singles. This volume was the first in the series to include music from the likes of ZAYN (as a solo artist), Jonas Blue, Shawn Mendes (as a lead artist), Snakehips and G-Eazy (as a lead artist).

During this time the availability of chartworthy songs was extremely limited. Very few omissions were found, the most noteworthy one from this time was from Rihanna who had previously had her fair share of singles feature in the Now series, but this latest offering featuring Drake was overlooked. There was also no room for Adele, Stormzy, Viola Beach, Nathan Sykes, Louisa Johnson and a few others too.

So far in the series it has been the only volume to include Lukas Graham, Elle King, Jack Garratt, The Lewisham And Greenwich NHS Choir, 99 Souls, Fleur East, MOUNT & Nicolas Haelg, Alessia Cara (as a lead artist), Alan Walker, Dawin, AlunaGeorge (as a lead artist) and Twenty One Pilots.

Artwork Rating: 8/10 Extremely Good
A very nice cover this one, I love there’s a lot of references to Spring on this design. There’s clouds, raindrops, a rainbow, umbrellas, grass, daisies, cobwebs and even a little ladybug. It’s definitely relatable for this time of year. A very colourful and vibrant design and a bold yellow logo. Maybe there’s just a bit too much going on which may make your eyes glance over the detail, but it’s certainly a good Springtime design.

Disc 1 Favourite: Mike Posner – In Ibiza (SeeB Remix)
Despite not having the full song title listed on the back of this CD, this song spent four weeks at the top of the charts for a reason. It wasn’t the first time Mike Posner had a hit, or featured in the Now series for that matter, but this remix by SeeB certainly made this into a monster hit at the time, and one of the last true dance songs to reach #1 as well.

Disc 2 Favourite: 99 Souls feat. Destiny’s Child & Brandy – The Girl Is Mine
What a brilliant mashup this was. Mixing two songs by American urban females from the late 90’s and early 00’s really paid off. Incidentally this isn’t the first time Brandy’s Vocal credit has been mashed up with another song... in 2001 dance outfit Stuntmasterz mashed up the original of The Boy Is Mine with Modjo’s Lady (Hear Me Tonight) to reach the UK Top 10.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Rihanna feat. Drake – Work 3:39 {2}
2. Riton & Kah-Lo – Rinse & Repeat 2:31 {13}
3. Tiësto & Oliver Heldens feat. Natalie La Rose – The Right Song 3:25 {39}
4. Martin Solveig feat. Sam White – +1 3:13 {51}
5. Blinkie – Don’t Give Up (On Love) 3:08 {68}
6. Disclosure feat. Lorde – Magnets 3:19 {71}
7. DJ Fresh & High Contrast feat. Dizzee Rascal – How Love Begins 3:19 {53}
8. Stormzy – Shut Up 2:59 {8}
9. Birdy – Keeping Your Head Up 3:28 {57}
10. Jess Glynne – Ain’t Got Far To Go 3:23 {45}
11. Nathan Sykes – Over And Over Again (Cahill Radio Edit) 3:13 {8}
12. Demi Lovato – Confident 3:25 {65}
13. Pia Mia – Touch 3:26 {47}
14. Drake – Summer Sixteen 3:22 {23}
15. Lethal Bizzle x Stormzy – Dude 3:43 {49}
16. 5 Seconds Of Summer – Hey Everybody 3:16 {49}
17. The 1975 – Ugh 3:00 {42}
18. James Bay – Best Fake Smile 3:26 {58}
19. Motörhead – Ace Of Spades 2:47 {13}
20. Viola Beach – Swings & Waterslides 3:36 {11}
21. X Ambassadors – Renegades 3:15 {38}
22. Adele – When We Were Young 4:50 {9}
23. Louisa Johnson – Forever Young 3:23 {9}
24. Cee Lo Green – Music To My Soul 2:52 {59}
----------
Total time: 1:19:58

Overall Rating: 6/10 Good
Not a golden era by any means but the end result for this volume is mostly good. Due to licensing issues there may have been some notable omissions, but not many at all. The songs they chose to include that charted outside the Top 40 are all quite disappointing. Also, many of the versions used on both discs are heavily edited too which spoils the songs. It was also during a time when Justin Bieber dominated the top spot for long periods with various singles. Lastly it was at a sad time following the death of David Bowie who made a posthumous appearance at the end of this volume. I am sure some improvements could have been made overall with the tracklist order but it’s still ok.

Now 93 is not my favourite album with lots of average singles but I do find there are about 7 strong hits I really like which makes the album more enjoyable. These 7 are:

99 Souls feat. Destiny's Child & Brandy – The Girl Is Mine
Coldplay – Hymn For The Weekend
Major Lazor feat. Nyla & Fuse ODG – Light It Up (Remix)
The Chainsmokers feat. Rozes – Roses
Zara Larsson – Lush Life
AlunaGeorge feat. Popcaan – I'm In Control
Shawn Mendes – Stitches

As for least favourite hits I'd probably say the first 3 tracks on Disc 1 are contenders! Can't stand any of them.

Artwork: 6/10
I like the umbrellas but the raindrops look out of place

Overall: 7/10
I enjoy a lot of the songs on this album, including the entirety of Disc Two (although I very much wish it was the original version of Dessert not that awful remix). My Top 8 especially on this disc are songs I love to go back to. On the other hand Disc One is okay but I can't say I've gone back to anything beyond track #10 aside from James Bay. There's a few odd inclusions such as the three non-Top 100 songs which I think this is the first Now! to do so but Something Good is a banger so I don't mind that.

Looking at the omissions I am surprised Nathan Sykes and Riton weren't included as they could have easily been slotted in. Summer Sixteen is actually the only omission I don't enjoy, so perhaps I was extra interested in low charting singles during this time. Don't Give Up (On Love) remains one of my favourite dance songs of that year, Hey Everybody is one of my favourite 5SOS singles, and Renegades is a brilliant song in itself. I'm surprised that went Top 40 actually which is better than nothing. Their feature on Skylar Grey's Cannonball along with Elle King's Ex's & Oh's were the soundtrack of my September camping trip in 2015 tongue.gif

Roses & Flume's Never Be Like You were my Australia Day song's for 2016 too so there's another event linked to songs tongue.gif I listened to both on repeat basically the whole train ride into Perth
