Halfway through! The start of the run of the guest writers too which should hopefully be interesting and make for a change up. Following Rosa, I'm very hyped for this episode. Although, naturally, I am expecting the monster/villain to take a back seat yet again due to the nature of the setting.

Hoping last week was just a blip and this will be a full return to form, it feels like it has the potential to be a good one.

Not much of a threat, hardly any action, but an enjoyable episode, to flesh out one of the main characters in the series.

A sweet episode, obviously in the vein of Rosa but not as strong for me. The whole historical basis was very interesting and itís a nice touch to focus on a companionís family in that historical time. I was enjoying there being a hint of a threat so was of course disapointed when they were actually NICE (!!!) aliens but it was a neat idea, if making a forgettable enemy, an irrelevant friend.

I donít know, I did like the story but itís left me with not much to say about it. Maybe a fault lies in that it came too soon after Rosa so just lies in that episodeís shadow.

I do keep banging on about it but perhaps I need to accept that this era isnít going to be about monsters/villains! It does continue the feelings of the First Doctor era in that way!

I really enjoyed that! It was a bit slow in pace for the most part but I'm glad that we've now had a pretty big look at Yaz's background/heritage. I don't think it's as much of a classic as Rosa will end up being, but still important nonetheless, particularly with its conclusion and the overall themes.

Again, the monster felt more secondary to everything else that was going on, but I felt given everything that was happening in the episode the balance was okay? There were some nice moments with them too - I particularly loved their final scene after Prem died with all the dead's faces in their ship. They were basically the Shansheeth from SJA without a sinister motive. kink.gif

Don't get me wrong some of the writing and production has been fantastic, but I just want something to happen? Where's the drama? And it certainly feels odd not having any sort of story arc to follow; I know that has often been the case but I just feel like the series needs a direction.

Yeh, itís disapointing how little impact the Doctor & co had in the episode - all the events would have been exactly the same had they not been there. Then, we had Arachnids where the spiders are still rosmimg around and last week where all Ryan & Graham did was help deliver a baby that had no relevance to the plot.

The Doctor gets her chance to shine but itís why Iím struggling to warm to any of the companions as they barely get any sort of heroic moment.

I did really enjoy this actually, I felt the drama was well done and I liked how they twisted who the actual 'demons' were in the episode, and while the aliens didn't actually turn out to be the bad guys in the end, they did actually LOOK menacing and like Doctor Who villains which is encouraging. I again really liked the historical aspect and it felt especially tragic seeing things unfold, it did play a lot of the same tricks as Rosa did, but it did it very well and it was a lot more affecting given that it was a negative event that they were letting happen.

Although I do think this has kinda confirmed that we most likely aren't going to get any particularly strong villains this year as that clearly isn't the focus, more using Sci-Fi to unlock human dramas and our own personal demons, and that can be great, for sure. But I do feel like it's been at the cost of the horror and thriller side of the show and that is one I really like, I just haven't felt properly on edge or that any of the protagonists are in genuine danger this time around. I suppose I need to accept that, and I'll still wait and see ofc. as like I said, this side of the show does still pull some great unexpected surprises sometimes.

I really enjoyed this episode! Finally a chance to explore and develop Yaz and her backstory and very much tonally in the vein of Rosa. For me, I'd say second best episode of the series. I really liked the monsters and it was a surprising twist that they were actually nice. I think this needs to be the last episode of this type though. Doctor Who is missing it's traditional monster threat type episodes atm. Maybe they're saying it for the finale? But it's very much needed!

It is reaaaally starting to remind me of the Sarah Jane Adventures. The weak Doctor inventing random things and always under threat, like Sarah Jane without any Doctor powers, the friendly aliens, the lack of threat, the APPALLING acting (Ryan)...

One of my faves from Series 11 so far.

Favourite aspects:

+The ethereal Indian music to go with the scenery (the vocal "ah"s remind me of the music group Enigma)
+How the episode looked into Yazz's ancestry
+The twist involving the demons
+The symbolism presented by the broken watch
+Prem's death was a heartbreaking scene done very well

Ryan needs to leave tbh, I feel like he's being given lines just for the sake of it - taking away from the scenes themselves and putting me off what actually happens :/

eg

Doctor: Uses sonic screwdriver on machine in spaceship
Machine: Turns on with bright lights that everyone can clearly see
Ryan: "Hey, that worked"

If it was a comical line or actually had any input/effect then it would be fine but I feel like he just has a huge character flaw where he's just a boring side character with nothing special to ever say or do. His dyspraxia could've been an interesting part of his character but it literally hasn't been touched on since the first episode, yet his fascination for guns and touching stuff has been more prominent. So far he's had terrible development and really needs an episode like Yas has had with this one and to a lesser extent Rosa otherwise I really don't see how or why he'd return next season.
