After David Guetta, Sigala, Jonas Blue and Clean Bandit all disappointed with recent albums it got me thinking, which dance acts are really just singles acts and which ones can make a good cohesive album too?

I really enjoyed Above & Beyond and Chicane's albums this year, and of course Avicii produced my 2 favourite albums of all time in True and Stories. Disclosure are a good albums act too so I hope they do a proper album next year too.

Agreed, same with Avicii.

Calvin Harris is pretty good with albums too.

Y’all know I love Bicep’s debut last year, what an album!
Dusky’s Outer too!

I feel like it tends to be the more underground/niche acts this year (e.g. Daniel Avery, Orbital) that put a lot of production effort into their albums to feel like an actual body of work.

Hot Natured really had it nailed with a solid dance album, been itching for a follow up.

Both Gorgon City albums were strong.

This!

Faithless has a good following for albums as did the Chemical Brothers and Basement Jaxx but these three also appealed to an indie audience as well as a dance one which most likely helped.

Sigala’s album is really good - the problem is it was released after 3 years since the debut single when most of the tracks had already been issued as singles. Not a smart move as nothing to help sustain the life of the album and little incentive for fans of the singles to buy the full album.

I fear Jax Jones’ album will plummet down the same path as Clean Bandit/Sigala/Jonas Blue too (if we ever get one tongue.gif) The idea of an album seems great, they tease it, we get a multitude of solid singles which builds up even more hype but when they’re all then plonked together on some half-arsed attempt at an album it just doesn’t work.

Gone are the days of releasing 2 or 3 tracks leading up to an album... we’re now having to wait up to 3 years meaning tracks sound stale and out of place. If it works for you as a singles artist then why ruin it by clobbing together an album that everyone forgets about after release week?

I doubt we'll ever see a Jax Jones album now, I think he's going to just do singles and add them to his Snacks EP like The Chainsmokers.

Or if he does it'll be like Sigala's with the album tracks being mostly poor.

I preferred Caracal to Settle from Disclosure tbh, although both are incredible dance albums! Flume is the same, fantastic singles and album artist alike. Skin is probably my favourite dance album of recent years and I’d say Never Be Like You is one of my favourite dance songs of recent years (just to give Flume the double x). Rüfüs Du Sol has a 10/10 album too

Alesso’s Forever is a good album but I imagine the next album he releases will be a dud judging by how inconsistent and sub-par his releases have been since that album. His Fortnite single better not be on it x

It’s a shame CB’s newest album is so crap because their debut had some real gems in there.
