Pick your favourite decade in terms of music
For me, it’s definitely the 2000’s, so many classics! |

2000s for me too! Biased of course as I was born in 1997 so grew up throughout that decade. I love how diverse the charts were too.

Best in terms of music rather than best in terms of the charts, right?
Because I'd say the 2010s have had a lot of incredible songs but the charts have been fairly uninteresting in comparison to the 1990s and 2000s. |

It'll be the decade everyone grew up/was introduced to chart music so I can see the 1990s & 2000s fairly equally winning this!
The 1990s for me, even though I only really started following the charts in Easter 1999 - almost all of my favourites are from that decade, although the late 1980s and early 2000s aren't far off! 1988-2004 is my favourite continuous era ![]() |

For music in general then:
1. 2010s 2. 2000s 3. 1990s 4. 1980s 5. 1950s 6. 1970s 7. 1960s But I'd have much preferred to follow the charts in the 1990s and 2000s than in the 2010s, as there was much more excitement and variety. This post has been edited by coi: Aug 20 2019, 11:06 AM |

The 2010s though mostly the early-mid 2010s in terms of chart music. It's gone a bit downhill recently.

It's easily the 1990s for me, I wish I could live through it again properly.

It used to be the 1980s for me, but my perspective has changed on that decade, great for the first few years of it (1980-1982 particularly) but then things became rather generic after the new wave era died and too dominated by cheesy pop and middle of the road stuff by the middle/end of the decade, although at least there are some good dance tracks by the end.
Now I would have to say the 1990s in general seem better despite too many boyband ballads. The 00s were great but the early part of the decade (2000-2006) was better than the last few years of imo. I like the first few years of the 2010s but it all went downhill quickly. The 70s was very good for rock music and I like the disco era too. 1. 1990s 2. 2000s 3. 1980s 4. 1970s 5. 2010s 6. 1960s 7. 1950s This post has been edited by TheSnake: Aug 20 2019, 12:12 PM |

Tough because a greater proportion of my all-time favourites are from the 00s but I would still opt for the 90s overall.
The 90s didn't exactly have an amazing first few years for music, but 1994 through to 1999 were for the most part pretty magical, with the final two years really amazing for me. In terms of the 00s, I adored 2000-2002, 2006-7 and 2009. 2003 is better looking back than I gave it credit for at the time, a real transition period but without many huge personal faves but it was of course the year of Delta Goodrem <3 and 2004 had some fantastic albums, but was less good in terms of singles. 2005 and 2008 had their bright spots but were overall weak years musically for me. This decade has been a strange one, I really liked 2010-11 despite too many 'club bangers' and generic sounding songs dominating the charts, 2012-2014 were better and probably the last few years I enjoyed a lot of songs in the charts. The last five years, I guess since Spotify dominance has taken over, I rarely find much that I love in the mainstream and variety and people taking risks with music is rare. I would love the 20s to have more of a musical identity to them than the last five years have seen. This post has been edited by gooddelta: Aug 20 2019, 12:18 PM |

2005 and 2008 had their bright spots but were overall weak years musically for me. 2004-6 was when is started taking more notice of the music channels (The Box I think it was) so I quite like those years, although many of my faves especially on the dance side of things. 2008 is quite good because of Basshunter unexpectedly making #1 for 5 weeks at the start, the brief revival of that sort of dance music and also the fact there was some good #1s. There was perhaps a bit of an overload of slushy R&B ballads that year but I find them quite nostalgic now. This post has been edited by TheSnake: Aug 20 2019, 12:30 PM |

It would be the 2000s, when I started taking notice of the charts, from the music channels on Freeview, The Hits and TMF.

For me 2000's particularly the start of the decade when I was a teenager and started getting into music and the charts. Music was so good back then and the charts had a great variety of music from bubble gum pop to indie, rock, dance, garage, r&b, boybands, girlbands etc... Was a great time to be alive!
1. 2000's 2. 1990's 3. 2010's 4. 1980's 5. 1960's 6. 1970's 7. 1950's |

1990s EASILY. What a joyous time!
You would never be able to get fun cheesy pop hits doing well like they did back then again. 2000's a close second, 2010's is pretty hit and miss, the last couple of years chart wise, have been terrible. |

90s - it was amazing! Literally anything could chart, you got bonkers one off singles along with great pop and amazing indie movements. Plus dance really got going with trance / big beat as well as the euro classics! I was lucky enough to be in sixth form during the Britpop era and it actually felt like a cultural moment at the time, so many amazing nights out in 95-98!

For me the current decade of commercial music started to go downhill in 2015. Take dance for example, we went from such an exciting year for dance in 2014 to a lot more of a generic and watered down sound coming to the forefront
