15th December 2019

It's a 4th week on top for Sigma and Jack Savoretti, who were nearly overhauled by the return of Roxette's 2013 remixed chart-topper at 2 - it was their 3rd and final number one, following It Must Have Been Love and the double A Look Into My Heart/Dangerous in 1990. Marie Fredriksson sadly lost her battle with cancer this week, and a couple of other singles that under-performed in my charts also enter lower down (if you can call peaking at 2 for Fading Like a Flower under-performing), but the chart-toppers had at least 2 runs each.

I also saw Kim Wilde in acoustic concert with her bruv Ricky and his daughter Scarlett this week, and they were doing intimate low-key Christmas themed hits featuring the Wilde Winter Songbook, assorted Xmas classics, and acoustic covers of her biggest hits for a totally charming, flawless gig, very different from the 3 previous full-on rockpop gigs I've caught her at. Just fab, and that's why there's a bunch of new entries for non-charting tracks, and 2 re-entries headed by the lovely Isobel's Dream, back for a 3rd Xmas and a new chart peak of 4. Kim has been having chart entries for almost 39 years, and Ricky (as songwriter-producer of all her stuff) for 47 years - he debuted in 1972 with I Am An Astronaut, a sort of charming pre-teen kiddie novelty single that came out for xmas 1972 and flopped in the UK charts.

The Weeknd leaps up Blindingly to 11, in stark contrast with the non-charting Heartless, which I must be to exclude it. Frankie Valli's 1972 oldie, 1975 UK hit, The Night returns to the top 30 after being away for 44 years, thanks to an advert, Billie Eilish gets another top 40, and Noel Gallagher gets his 4th of 2019 as his Xmas song wanders upwards like a star. There's a lot of Xmas tracks in the chart - but not the usual suspects that chart in the UK charts each year, though Last Christmas is here via Kim Wilde's cover. I count 9 of 'em, but there's still time for Chris Rea and others to return, assuming I actually hear them. I'm not on my usual pre-xmas holiday this year so I'm not out and about seeing xmas videos and karaoke in the pub.

Hello John!
Nice to see Roxette in the top 3, as well as "Watermelon Sugar"!
I also like the big gains for "Blinding Lights", "Time For Change", "Everything I Wanted", "Wandering Star" and "Adore You" and of course the Roxette debuts!
Great chart!

Fantastic highest NE from ROxette there, and well deserved.

Great to see Robbie rising to the top 20 and interesting to see Doris Day in the top 75! Not my favourite version of 'I'll Be Home For Christmas'. Loved the Killers version a few years back.

Hi John!

Nice to see Sigma/Jack still on the top spot, I'm coming back round to it again actually! May re-enter my Top 40 in the New Year.

Giving the Roxette track a listen now, a nice piece - the beat goes quite well with the vocals I think!

Great chart biggrin.gif

I first heard 'Fading Like A Flower' in the form of the Dancing DJ's remixed version which charted in 2005! laugh.gif

THE SWEET HELLO THE SAD GOODBYE (BASSFLOW REMAKE) I just listened to, very good, sounds like it should have been a Eurovision entry!

Surprised not to see River in this personal chart, either Ellie Goulding's new version or the superior Joni Mitchell original!

Thanks for the long list AH hohohoh laugh.gif Yes Roxette were so consistent for a good 5 or 6 years of non-stop great singles.

The new version of The Fizz xmas goodie is a bit OTT with the jingle bells, but bought it anyway, the original version is still the best though. biggrin.gif

Cheers as always! cool.gif

Hi John!

Nice to see Sigma/Jack still on the top spot, I'm coming back round to it again actually! May re-enter my Top 40 in the New Year.

Giving the Roxette track a listen now, a nice piece - the beat goes quite well with the vocals I think!

Great chart biggrin.gif

Hi Pete!, thanks for dropping by, glad Sigma still resonates with you, I'm only just starting to decline on it smile.gif

Glad you like the Roxette remix, it's as good as anything they've done IMHO smile.gif

cheers! cool.gif

Hi Snakey!

Thanks for dropping by, I enjoyed that 2005 remix of Fading Like A Flower too biggrin.gif

Glad you like the Roxette track, a shame it wasn't a hit that one. Have to admit I've only heard River once (Ellie's version) and I didn't know the Joni Mitchell original (though I did youtube it the other week). Terrible admission: I've yet to buy Blue, just not got round to it - I was out of the country at the time and didn't get to know of Joni till 1973. I went big on her 2 albums from that era 1974/75 and am aware I need to fill some earlier gaps in now...oops! smile.gif

Great Gainer : The Weeknd cheer.gif Robbie Williams at no 20 funky.gif

Nice Wham classic cover from Kim Wilde dance.gif

Hi Sven!

Glad you like the big climb for The Weeknd, it's a goodie - and thanks for listening to the Kim Wilde cover of Wham! It's a nice acoustic treatment of it, quite minimal cheer.gif

cheers!
