Welcome to the results page for the Week 7 quiz, which really was: to guess the songs that have been at the most different chart positions!

Entrants:
M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, Jade, coi, Riser, Rush, MrAndrewMan, dan-G, StoneDragon

Happy to have 11 entrants and itís about what I expected at the beginning of the week. This was always likely to be one of the less attended quizzes of the series, if not the least. Iíd agree that itís a slightly odd concept, and most certainly niche interest, even on this forum, but I thought maybe there was some quiz potential in it as a complete one-off, so here we are. It also means everyone's guaranteed at least 20 points for the leaderboard cheer.gif

Iíll start posting the answers soon. I have most of it prepped, but need to work in everyoneís results and a bit of formatting etc. so this might take a few hours, but Iíll try to get there by First Look time!

In each of the first 15 questions, there were 2 points for the correct song (title only needed), or 1 point for guessing the song elsewhere in your answers for A-O.

OK hereís the first couple:

A: Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved

Top 40 debut 2019 | Weeks 66 | Positions 31 | Rank 1st=
1-4, 6-11, 13-15, 18-31, 34, 36-38

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, Jade, coi, Riser, Rush, MrAndrewMan, dan-G, StoneDragon

We begin with a song we all know and (some of us) love. What is there that hasnít already been said about it? When I first compiled this list in early February it hadnít made the top ten here, but an extended run back on SCR that saw it pick each up #6 to #8, plus more new places on the way down, has propelled it to the joint summit of this particular chart cool.gif so... congrats Lewis! And to all 11 of you who got this correct.

B: Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York

Top 40 debut 1987 | Weeks 70 | Positions 31 | Rank 1st=
2-20, 22-24, 26-27, 31-33, 36, 38-40

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, coi, Riser, Rush, StoneDragon
1 point: MrAndrewMan (Song D)

Originally written in 1985, with the female vocals intended for then-Pogues bassist Cait OíRiordan before the now-late Kirsty was brought on board, the 1987 Christmas #2 has taken on a life of its own in the digital era, revisiting the Top 20 annually for 15 years and counting (many of those in the Top 10) which has helped it cover every position there except the top spot! Adding in a few forays in the lower end of the Top 40, including a 1991 re-release which OCC lists separately, sees it sitting pretty at the top of this particular tree, or at least it did until the Capaldi came along.

Incorrect guesses for B were Valerie (Jade) and Take Me To Church (dan-G), both long-running #2s which did indeed visit each of positions 2-8, so were very good guesses. The latter made 26 positions in the Top 40 so only just missed out on this list!

C: Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud

Top 40 debut 2014 | Weeks 56 | Positions 29 | Rank 3rd=
1-8, 10, 12-14, 16-20, 23-26, 28-32, 34-35, 38

2 points:M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, Jade, coi, Riser, Rush, dan-G
1 point:MrAndrewMan (Song I)

It was inevitable Ed would be here and with this song first. It still has the longest unbroken Top 40 run in history, starting out as an album track then pushed as single all the way to #1 for two separate weeks, before falling slowly back down, in the pre-ACR, pre-3-track rule, early days of streams being counted. Itís also (as far as I know) the only song thatís been at every position in the Top 8 this century. StoneDragon had Ed Sheeran hits in two answers including one here, but unfortunately not this song!

D: John Legend - All Of Me

Top 40 debut 2014 | Weeks 54 | Positions 29 | Rank 3rd=
2-6, 8-11, 13-15, 17-20, 22-24, 26, 28-29, 31, 33-34, 36-37, 39-40

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, Jade, coi, Rush, dan-G, StoneDragon
1 point: MrAndrewMan (Song E)

Before he and Ellie tried the patience of almost anyone with an Alexa last Christmas, John Legend tried the patience of almost everyone with this. Iíve always liked it though, and itís one of those songs that entered the Top 40 low (#28) but instantly sounded like a huge hit. It duly ended up with 19 weeks in the Top 10. Riser guessed Moves Like Jagger which wasnít far away from making this list.

E: Wham! - Last Christmas

Top 40 debut 1984 | Weeks 57 | Positions 29 | Rank 3rd=
2-3, 5-8, 10-11, 13-14, 16, 18-21, 23-24, 26-29, 32-36, 38-40

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, coi, Rush, StoneDragon
1 point: Riser (Song L)

An instant colossal seller and #2 behind Band Aid, this, the foremost eternal reminder of George Michaelís talent, climbed back to #6 the next Christmas. It returned to the Top 10 at #7 following his tragic passing in 2016 and has made the Top 3 every year since. Iíve included videos in this results thread as we usually do, so what better reason to listen to Christmas songs in May. Jade went for Nickelbackís Rockstar which was very close to matching the places I gave in the question.

C: Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud

Itís also (as far as I know) the only song thatís been at every position in the Top 8 this century.
There are a couple more!

David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium:
16-31-53-61R(19)-8-3-2-{1}-2-4-5-7-8-6-7-8-7-11-19-19-15-21-26-32-39-39-43-39-31-30-35-36-43-50-56-59R(2)-56-57-69-63-61-48-56-57-39-48-63-75-47R(7)-60-47R(9)-38-37-66-71R(12)-58R(2)-59-61-65-60R(6)-74->61

Justin Bieber - What Do You Mean?:
{1}-2-1-1-2-1-1-5-7-6-7-5-4-4-6-5-5-4-3-4-4-8-13-14-16-17-19-19-23-26-27-29-32-38-48-47-48-51-57-59-63-64-71-70R(2)-66-69-67-72->48

and, surprisingly, Ne-Yo - Closer:
22-24-12-7-5-3-2-{1}-2-4-6-4-6-8-11-12-16-22-27-26-28-33-37-42-46-55-63-65-68-66R(5)-62->31

This may not be 100% complete if there are any others where the OCC changed the song's credit part-way (eg 'Cheerleader' not listing the remix at first). (I used a spreadsheet of the charts to look this up but, for the record, I didn't use it for my quiz answers)

Thanks Rush, didn't know about those! Guess I was only really thinking of songs that also made #10.

F: Pharrell Williams - Happy

Top 40 debut 2013 | Weeks 50 | Positions 28 | Rank 7th=
1-4, 6-7, 10-19, 22, 24-25, 27, 29-30, 32-35, 37, 40

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, Jade, coi, Rush, MrAndrewMan, dan-G, StoneDragon

The most played song of the 2010ís, and itís hard to think of another song from the decade that had as much of a cross-demographic impact as this did. It fell just short of lasting a complete year in the Top 40. Riser went for the original Band Aid which actually has visited all of those positions in the clue, and was so close to being on this list.

G: Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire

Top 40 debut 2008 | Weeks 48 | Positions 27 | Rank 10th=
1-2, 4-6, 11-19, 21-23, 26-27, 29-31, 33, 37-40

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, coi, Riser, Rush, MrAndrewMan, StoneDragon

The lead single from their biggest era, it had a good run near the top before clearing some room for Use Somebody (which was Riserís vote for Song E, and actually visited the exact same positions as Last Christmas in the Top 8, but just misses this list). After both songs eventually dropped out of the Top 40, this one was performed by an X Factor contestant and shot back up to #6. Jade and dan-G went for Despacito and Sam Smithís Stay With Me respectively Ė both are close and match for the Top 6 at least.

H: Ed Sheeran - Perfect

Top 40 debut 2017 | Weeks 43 | Positions 27 | Rank 10th=
1, 3-7, 11-13, 16, 18-19, 22-26, 28-29, 31-34, 36-38, 40

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, coi, Riser, Rush, MrAndrewMan, dan-G, StoneDragon

Where to start with this? Well itís another one that didnít make this first list at the start of February, but thanks to its (ongoing!!) post-Christmas reset to SCR where it climbed as high as #36 Ė which it hadnít visited before Ė itís here now. Shape Of You has had more Top 40 weeks overall, but with fewer of them not used up at #1, its fellow Divide hit just shades it here. Jade Iím so sorry, it would have been great if Rockabye were actually here instead!

Omg I'm so annoyed - I came across both of those chart runs and still didn't think they fit in anywhere DeadBanana.gif

The Clean Bandit answer was basically "I give up, here's one that is close with the top 10 positions" laugh.gif

I: George Ezra - Budapest

Top 40 debut 2014 | Weeks 41 | Positions 27 | Rank 10th=
3-7, 10-13, 15-24, 27-30, 33-35, 37

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, coi, Rush, dan-G, StoneDragon

If Iíd just said there was a George Ezra song here, you might not have expected it to be this one. Still my favourite of his, it has now appeared as a chart quiz answer for a second week running. It stayed in the Top 40 beyond its follow-up hit Blame It On Me, but very efficiently picked up these 27 spots in the space of just 41 weeks. Interestingly, both Jade and Riser went for The A-Team which I guess fits the places in the Top 8, hadnít even thought of that!
