https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53249063

Following 'The Lost Songs' last year, McFly have confirmed they've signed a record deal with BMG - and will release their long awaited 6th studio album this year! After Busted's surprisingly brilliant comeback, I'm very intrigued as to what their sound will be like. The lead single is out this month!

This bit in the article particularly interests me:

QUOTE
The four new tracks McFly play for the BBC instantly bring to mind the jangly positivity of Britpop - in the vein of The Boo Radleys' Wake Up Boo, or Dodgy's Staying Out For The Summer.

The first taste of McFly's new material lands later this month. The title of their comeback single is still under wraps, but it's an intoxicatingly upbeat crowd-pleaser, which the band describe as having a "festival vibe".

"There's that hands-in-the-air feeling about it," says Danny, "like when you're drunk or you're having a barbecue.

"You can put it on and your kids will dance to it, your wife will dance to it, your granddad, everybody. Even the lads can get involved, the football crowd. I could really hear it on the Fifa soundtrack."

The carnivalesque riff was inspired by the band's massive following in South America, and there's even a samba sample thrown in for good measure.

"We had to contact the family of the artist," says Danny. "They don't even have a Spotify page or whatever, and they were so chuffed we were using it. They were like, 'Our music's not been played in years! We can't believe it!'"

Well it doesn't look like we'll be getting anything this month, unless we get something announced in the next couple of days!

I’m looking forwards to this. I didn’t appreciate McFly back in the day but listening back they have a solid discography! Obviously is my favourite ❤️

Wow. Great news. They’ve released very good songs on their last couple of albums. Sadly didn’t get much attention.

'That's The Truth' remains their best song for me, and by far and away their lowest charting. cry.gif

I agree... its weird to think their last album came out nearly 10 years ago.
also quite enjoyed McBusted's album, but was never a Busted fan.
The Lost Songs were amazing too, can't believe they didn't make them available on itunes. oh well.

Can't wait to hear it. So great to have McFly back!
Brilliant comeback at the 02 Arena last year and this Single and Album is soooooooooooooo long overdue.

🤞 The 2020 Arena Tour still goes a head with Covid-19 and all.

Can't tell you how excited I am about this, it's been a long time coming! They remain the band I've seen live the most in my life (pretty sure I've seen them at least ten times) so I hope the October shows still go ahead.

Also 'Young Dumb Thrills' is easily the best album title anyone's come up with for a VERY long time biggrin.gif

I'd be very surprised if the October shows go ahead, but they definitely won't get cancelled altogether.

Really excited to hear this!! Love everything I see so far!

On a slightly different note, how well do you reckon mcfly will fair in the charts these days? Hard to say without hearing the song but it’s practically a different world since when they last released music? Reckon they can still crack the top 10?

The Thursday release shows they're not bothered about the singles chart, I think it'll go top 75 at the most.

Album I'm hoping for #1 though!

That’s sad to think the single might chart so low! I’m out of touch though when it comes to the singles chart and how it works these days and what they’d actually need to sell/stream to go top 40.

Number 1 album would be immense though! They’d be stoked!

Pretty sure the single will be #1 on iTunes but yeah I'm not really holding out much hope for it to be a hit, hopefully top 75 should be achievable though.

Album wise, I'd like to think they could get a #1 but they're releasing in Q4 so there's bound to be a lot of competition... at another time of year I'd be much more hopeful of a #1 but we'll see.

I'm beyond excited to hear the single on Thursday dance.gif
