It occurred to me today that there suddenly seems to be so many young male footballers emerging in the premier league with double barrelled names.

I recall the first time I remember seeing a player with a double barrelled name play in the premier league was Shaun Wright-Phillips at the middle of the 00’s, and I remember thinking then it was an usual sighting, but nowadays it is a lot more common to see.

Here are some examples I thought of when making this post:

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Liverpool)
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton)
Callum Hudson-Odoi (Chelsea)
Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle)
James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)
Timothy Fosu-Mensah (Manchester United)
Cameron Carter-Vickers (Tottenham Hotspur)
Hal Robson-Kanu (West Brom)
Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea)
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United)
Vontae Daley-Campbell (Leicester City)
Bobby De Cordova-Reid (Fulham)
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Leicester City)
Elijah Dixon-Bonner (Liverpool)
Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton)
Anthony Driscoll-Glennon (Burnley)
Malachi Fagan-Walcott (Tottenham Hotspur)
Jake Clarke-Salter (Chelsea)
Josh Felix-Eppiah (Leicester City)
Morgan Gibbs-White (Wolves)
Taylor Harwood-Bellis (Manchester City)
Tyreece John-Jules (Arsenal)
Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Arsenal)
Rhys Norrington-Davies (Sheffield United)
Bailey Peacock-Farrell (Burnley)
Myles Peart-Harris (Chelsea)
Ian Poveda-Ocampo (Leeds United)
Son Heung-Min (Tottenham Hotspur)
Martell Taylor-Crossdale (Fulham)
Erik Palmer-Brown (Manchester City)

My sister's two boys have double-barrelled names because she and her partner aren't married. I would guess that is the explanation in quite a lot of these cases.
