QUOTE
Pop singer Olly Alexander, Neil Patrick Harris, and Stephen Fry all star in the upcoming Channel 4 and HBO Max drama It’s A Sin (formerly called ‘Boys’).

The series is created by Years and Years creator and former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, and will explore the lives of three young gay men affected by the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

And, as Davies previously told RadioTimes.com, the storylines are based on his own real-life experiences (he was 18 during the start of the crisis in the UK).
QUOTE
The five-parter will examine the lives of a group of young gay men (Ritchie, Roscoe and Colin) who are hit by the outbreak of a new deadly virus, HIV, after they move to London during the 1980s.

“They’re all based on my experiences,” Davies told RadioTimes.com. “They’re all 18 years old in 1981, that was my age in 1981, in a sense they’re all part of me but equally they’re all invented… Some of them do [die of AIDs].”

In a statement, Channel 4 said: “Ritchie, Roscoe and Colin are young lads, strangers at first, leaving home at 18 and heading off to London in 1981 with hope and ambition and joy… and walking straight into a plague that most of the world ignores.

“Year by year, episode by episode, their lives change, as the mystery of a new virus starts as a rumour, then a threat, then a terror, and then something that binds them together in the fight.

“It’s the story of their friends, lovers and families too, especially Jill, the girl who loves them and helps them, and galvanises them in the battles to come. Together they will endure the horror of the epidemic, the pain of rejection and the prejudices that gay men faced throughout the decade.”

Really looking forward to this! wub.gif I wasn't HUGE on Banana/Cucumber (same director right?) but this looks v good and really important.

Really interested to see Olly Alexander in his (I think) acting debut. Hopefully a new song from Years & Years on the soundtrack too!

Same, the trailer looks so good! I think Olly's been in a few things actually, I remember watching a trailer for The Riot Club which he appeared in. Might be his first leading role.

Oh okay, that makes sense because I thought from the trailer he looked to be acting well for a first role!

Olly was also in one of the last episodes of Skins many moons ago!

I am quite looking forward to this. Russell knows how to deliver LGBT+ drama in such a realistic and moving way I'm sure this'll be just as good as his previous shows. Quite the cast involved *.*

Looking forward to this! I hope it starts in January, as I've seen the advert on TV quite a lot lately.

Yep! The fantastic Russell T Davies, also known for the early years of the Doctor Who revival and (ironically) Years and Years on BBC One last year

important to inform people of the 80's, it will be quality, the music great, but as I was traumatised a decade ago keeping a friend with HIV at death's door alive (and still living with the lifelong health consequences) and getting the medical care he needed after his doctors ignored what was going on for months, it's not something I will watch or want to be reminded of in any way.

I liked the first episode - it’s mad to think it’s only set 2 decades before Queer As Folk. Obviously went for a dramatic end to the first episode to really hit home the extremity of what was about to happen

Yeah I enjoyed the first episode too! They're all out there but I'm going to spread it out to once a week to have something to look forward to.

(soundtrack on point as hoped too - 'Tainted Love', 'Enola Gay', 'Call Me' etc *.*)

I'm glad other people are going to watch it weekly. I don't think this is something that deserves to be binged to enjoy it and fully take in what happens so I'm glad C4 are sticking with it being on a Friday night. I'm still thinking about the first episode now, Russell is an incredible producer.

Agree with Jade on the soundtrack, as soon as Enola Gay started cheeseblock.png

So chuffed that my sister has told me she is watching it!

It has reminded me how powerful Queer As Folk was for me as a closeted teen. Whilst we know Its a Sin will get very dark, I expect that young queer people are watching this as a way of making themselves feel less alone

I watched the first episode and half of the second one last night... I love it so far! In terms of RTD shows, I've only watched Queer As Folk and Cucumber so I've been really anticipating this. The first episode was mostly light-hearted so you just know the contrast between it and the later episodes is going to be big. sad.gif On a positive note, how hot was Neil Patrick Harris looking? gaycat.png I love his British accent.
I hope the show gets the recognition it deserves and encourages RTD to produce another LGBT-centric show. There is still a real lack of gay dramas on TV and I feel like it is always Channel 4 serving us them. Step up ITV and BBC!
