A discussion in the Spotify thread about what songs will hold up in the chart after December has made me think what songs have charted or peaked after decembers main holiday?
It’s not too strict but there’s been a few notables who charted into January when they were released for a Christmas impact. Any else you can think of let me know. Il go with David Essex ‘A Winters Tale’ which was released 2 weeks before Christmas in 1982 and although easily in the top 10 for the day itself at number 7 it went from strength to strength in January and ended up peaking at number two on 15th January 1983! Entered the Chart 11/12/1982 - 65-30-7-7-3-{2}-6-15-29-44->10 Weeks |

Not strictly a Christmas song but actually sounds very Christmassy to me with the production and the lyrics 'a season's wish will come true', entered the top 40 on the Christmas chart 1981 and peaked in the chart in January 1982. This post has been edited by Road Salt Mixer: Dec 24 2020, 05:57 PM |

Sort of connected to this topic but Athlete's Wires references 'Christmas lights' in the lyrics and peaked in January 2005 on its first week in the chart. I wonder is it the only UK chart hit that references Christmas but isn't a Christmas song?

Love Unlimited - It May Be Winter Outside (peaked at #11 in Feb 1975)
Technically, John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War Is Over) peaked at #2 in a chart week beginning in January 1981, but that had more to do with (a) his recent death and (b) the previous chart week being a repeat of the one before - I think someone mentioned before that he probably would have been #1 that week if a chart had been compiled. |

There are dozens, possibly hundreds, of songs which casually mention "Christmas" in the lyrics, doesn't really make them Christmas songs though.
Paul McCartney - Pipes Of Peace became his only fully solo #1 in January 1984, it's appeared on a few Christmas compilations at least. |

'Moving To New York' by The Wombats references Christmas but didn't enter the charts until January 2008...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X3hDrlc5I4 Edit: though of course the song isn't about Christmas. I've just read the title of the thread! This post has been edited by Robbie: Dec 24 2020, 08:09 PM |

I also thought of when Fairytale Of New York was on TOTP in January '92 but that reissue actually peaked on the chart revealed 29th December What about Band Aid 30? Does that count since it spent 1 week at number 1 from 29 Nov 2014? |

Eminem's 'Mockingbird', which charted in May of 2005, has a whole section about Christmas
QUOTE It's funny, I remember back one year when Daddy had no money but I've never seen anyone call it a Christmas song Mommy wrapped the Christmas presents up and stuck 'em under the tree And said some of 'em were from me 'cause Daddy couldn't buy 'em I'll never forget that Christmas, I sat up the whole night cryin' ![]() |

What about Band Aid 30? Does that count since it spent 1 week at number 1 from 29 Nov 2014? I think so. The CD came out a few weeks later but it only went back up to #3. Incidentally on the week it debuted, the original Band Aid re-entered at #61, which I think is the only time this century that it's been higher in the chart than Mariah (#68 that week). |

Joel Pott is a great songwriter, I actually think he's worked with Ezra since day 1 and cowritten all of his songs since Budapest Wires is one of the best indie songs ever, very sad subject (her daughter) but great song |

Interestingly he co-wrote every song on Staying at Tamara's other than Paradise (which was solely Ezra) |
