It's a new number one for Sega Bodega and Lapsley, a first chart entry for the Scottish former and a second for the Scottish latter 6 years after a debut top 20. In a post-Xmas clear-out, the chart gets cut down to 80 and there's lots of activity, with the late Len Barry leaping up to 1-2-3 some 55 years on from first loving it. Been watching the youtube clip quite a bit, I always thought he was a black singer back in the day, but not. talking of 60's black singers, the criminally-ignored Lorraine Ellison finally made the itunes chart and give me the excuse I've been waiting for to chart it for decades: Stay With Me (Baby) has made the UK charts a few times, but never the original show-stopping vocal performance version. It was pretty much one-take rushed through in a studio recording gap, and has to be heard to be believed. Passion! She lives those lyrics! In at 8.

Javiera Mena gets a second top 10, the Chilean EDM singer is SO cool! This week the stroppy KLF boys finally made their stuff available in any format for the first time in 30 years, and opted for Streaming. Oh well, at least one format is better than nothing. So in comes the 4 dance anthems that WERE 1991. Every other act was merely a supporting also-ran. Justified & Ancient, 3am Eternal, Last Train To Trancentral & What Time Is Love (albeit the America version) all topped my charts, and were long-overdue a topping up for my All-Time Charts.

Kylie replaces herself in the top 40, bounding her Real Groove single into the 20, that'll be the 7th in a row from Disco, and Paul McCartney's delightful 100% solo Find My Way gives him a first top 20 in 2 years, an 11th in the 21st century, all new material, at least another 30 solo from the 20th century, another 20 with Wings, and oh yes that little Band he was in before Wings has had about ooh, another 60. Legend! The Beatles broke through when I was 5 years old and it's been 57 years plus of Macca love for me.

Gwen Stefani grabs another top 20, 24 years on from No Doubt, The Avalanches get a 3rd entry inside 12 months, this time with the fab MGMT and fabber Johnny Marr. 12 years for MGMT, and 38 years for Johnny "Smiths" Marr in his various bands, solo and guest spots. The Divine Chord is in at 29. Liam Gallagher leaps in to the 40, All You're Dreaming Of sounding even more John Lennon than usual, and taylor Swift replaces her own Xmas track in the 40 with the lovely Willow. Lola Lennox gets a 2nd chart entry. La La Love Me is a great pop track produced by mum Annie, who departs the chart as daughter enters. I'm sure she won't mind.

Celeste does her best Amy Winehouse groove for a second track on the chart, Love Is Back, Nathan Dawe also returns, and makes Little Mix less off-key than usual, so kudos for that, Foo Fighters get a quick second new track, banging rock, and a bunch of oldies replace the Xmas oldies dropping out: ABC's epic The Look Of Love is back 39 years after topping my chart, Squeeze's Cool For Cats gets a first chart-run since 1979, The Bee Gees To Love Somebody first charted for Nina Simone for me, in 1969, but the original had to wait until 2006, Alicia Keys tracs got a New Years Eve boost on BBC1, and her best track, with Jay-Z, is back after peaking at 2 in 2010: Empire State Of Mind is still fab. Notting Hill brings Al Green's Bee Gees cover back, and finally, the late Gerry Marsden was a huge childhood fave back in 1963/4 and passed away at the weekend. I saw him back in the 80's for a night of 1960's fond memories, most of all the Scouse anthem Ferry Cross The Mersey, which has never charted in it's original form, though would have back in the day hypothetically-speaking, cos I loved it enough to easily top my charts. It is SO evocative of my life in Liverpool around 1965/66, and regularly through the 70's and 80's (grandma lived there).
