A debate that has been ongoing since the start of the pandemic, but it is gaining new traction this week as images have surfaced of just what the meals are that are being provided. The food provided is supposed to provide 10 meals for the child (to compensate for two weeks worth of school lunches). Is this adequate enough: This article is a good summary of the events: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55628428 What are your thoughts on this matter. Should the families be grateful for anything they receive during these tough times, or should the government be doing more to provide for those most at need? |

I would that isn't enough for me to provide ten lunches. Have 10 pieces of fruit, 5 bananas and an apple. That loaf of bread isn't enough for ten days as most likely it would go mouldy.

It's so upsetting to see children that have had no say in their upbringing or family's financial circumstances suffer because of the government/the circumstances they have been born into. An issue very close to my heart and one that I hope gets solved soon. The children deserve so much more

Vouchers were given out in the last lockdown for food items only. I don’t see why they can’t do this again. These packages are disgusting. When businesses clubbed together to provide for these families when the government refused to in October, £30 seemed to go much further.

Well you open it the first Monday morning and by the following Friday, 11 days it's well mouldy. That food costs nowhere near even a tenner let alone £30. The government are failing these families and causing unnecessary stress at a time of huge anxiety- we know that food poverty has a significant impact on a child's education and limits their potential, widening the already large gap between attainment of rich and poor children. As always with this inept government they are putting enriching big corporations and their friends/donors above those of families in this country who are suffering through this pandemic, whilst simultaneously using their advantage of the (largely) amiable right-wing press to harm the reputation of these families by amplifying and exaggerating the minor transgresses of those using the vouchers (where they are used instead). It's so upsetting to see, but equally so inspiring to see people like Marcus Rashford, who experienced such issues himself, taking on and challenging the government on this.

It’s honestly disgusting. How can these companies sleep at night knowing they’re literally taking food from the mouths of starving kids.
Every Tory responsible for this should be sacked as an MP. The worst of the Tory donor waste |

It leaves me a bit speechless, honestly, and that's saying a lot given the other things that this government have done during the pandemic. They just can't help themselves but to help their rich mates even if it means children going hungry, that picture's not enough for half a week's meals. Disgusting. Bravo to Marcus Rashford though, a true hero of these times.
I agree, if that's really the best they can do, then they may as well just give vouchers. |

Out of all the rotten things the Tories have done over these past years, this has to be the most disgusting yet. Literally stealing food out of starving kids mouths and using that money to line the pockets of their donor chums.

Literally stealing food out of starving kids mouths and using that money to line the pockets of their donor chums. YES!!!! They are bungling contracts to their rich pals during a pandemic. The media is complicit, as it keeps turning a blind eye and not challenging this or investigating WHO is getting the contracts. We now have children going hungry, again during a pandemic and stuck at home, just because of Tory profiteering. A rotten, rotten party!!! I hope that in 20 years they never, ever get elected again and fade away forever. |

At least give the families vouchers, they are the answer. Full respect to Marcus Rashford who is determined to do whatever it takes to have free school meals for children during lockdown. It is upsetting hearing about young children going hungry, it's just disgusting that this is happening. There were occasions at college and school where I didn't have lunch as sometimes I didn't have food at home and weren't entitled to a free school meal and that was difficult but my parents.made sure that I didn't go hungry again. another reason is quite personal to me.

Matt Hancock is an absolute embarrassment. Also, Piers Morgan can be a prick but I'm pleased someone is prepared to hold politicians to account and pushes for a straight answer, which they seldom give.

I can't stand Piers Morgan, but fair play to him - he has at least held this government to account. |

ugh it's annoying that pig is the only one actually challenging the Torys rather than.. you know... Keir and the damn LABOUR opposition, an embarrassment man.
Also, the actual food parcels really got to me- it seems so evil. Giving them individual items rather than just bags of vegetables. Bag of potatoes is less than £1 yet they gave them 2 or 3- halving carrots and peppers. It's sick, and it really does show they put as little effort in as possible and then pocketed the rest. I really hope this blows up to a national outrage, in literally any other country this would lead to a revolution but I guess in Tory bootlicking UK we are fine with starving kids. |
