It's 25 years since 'One More Chance' was released as a single from 'Something to Remember'. It was written and produced by Madonna with acclaimed producer and musician David Foster in the midst of her vocal training for Evita. The sparse acoustic arrangement allowed Madonna's voice to be the focus of the song as she pleads her lover to take her back. The song was released as the second single in Australia and Japan and third in Europe; it mostly achieved limited success due to no promotion or music video, however did reach #2 in Italy.

25 years on, what are your thoughts on 'One More Chance'. Did it deserve...more of a chance?

Peaking at number 11 in the UK, its a nice song but not one i play often.
If i was in charge of the video, i would have thought about having a follow up of TAB and Youll See.

I'm not sure about that, I think it would undermine the message of 'You'll See'. Unless the video was from the perspective of the man.

This is probably one of my least favourite Madonna singles if I'm honest. It's far from her worst but I just find it very dull and I don't think it suits her vocal particularly well, despite the training; I think she's going for that pleading tone that you hear in the likes of 'Papa Don't Preach' and 'Crazy For You', but in this case it just sounds whiny to me.

It's about as exciting as watching paint dry, in all honesty.

Yeah... this isn't a song I ever listen and it certainly wasn't "something to remember".

I wonder why this was released in the UK with no music video instead of "I Want You", which was far superior and had a music video?

(there may be a story behind this, but I don't know it!)

There were legal issues between Madonna's label and Motown Records as the song was originally recorded for a Marvin Gaye tribute album, released by Motown.

Thank you. What a shame.
Your reply got me to search on-line and I see I Want You was supposed to be the first single from Something to Remember. That would have been so good.

I Want You is a stunning cover and video.

I wonder how it would have performed. The plan for the singles was completely muddled on this album for Madonna’s standards.

'I Want You' would have been an interesting lead but I think 'You'll See' did the job best. It was her best selling single since 'Vogue' in the UK, something I don't think 'I Want You' would have managed, and captures the mood of the album better as well as showcasing her new vocal ability.

I love One More Chance, a nice little song. Maybe I'm in the minority but much prefer this to I want You

For me, it always felt unfinished' but her vocal is lovely on it. I much prefer it to 'I Want You', but neither tracks are a patch on 'You'll See'....

for me You'll See was the perfect lead single, so I'm happy it was the chosen one in the end

I found more bizarre the choice of re-releasing Oh Father as single 2 after all these years

I wish 'Oh Father' had been released back in 1989. It would have been a much bigger hit which it really deserved and I'm not sure why they felt it necessary to release 'Dear Jessie' in certain countries over it.

Agreed that 'You'll See' was the best choice for lead single. It shows off her new vocal skills well and represents the compilation a lot more than 'I Want You'.

I think it was just pushed out from being released due to it being such a hectic period in her career - I assume they might've felt they didn't want to release Oh Father so close to Cherish and then the record label went ahead with Dear Jessie in December... same thing with Keep It Together not being released. Then there was a hectic period of I'm Breathless and Immaculate Collection, so Oh Father just ended up being left on the shelf.

I really could have done without 'Dear Jessie' being part of her singles discography.
