Hi Spice fandom!
I wanted to inform you that on my Instagram account I've launched today the hashtag #melaniecbritawards2021. If you to join just share one of my last posts with hashtag #melaniecbritawards2021 I know that 'Melanie C' album sales numbers and being Melanie with an independent record company may not justify a Brits nomination, but I think it's fair to try. thank you in advance! Love the idea but sadly there is no chance of Mel being nominated at all, but of course I will give it a go

She definitely deserves a nomination. She had a FLAWLESS album campaign that should be recognized.

She definitely deserves a nomination. She had a FLAWLESS album campaign that should be recognized. Exactly Voodoo, I know very well that 'Melanie C' it's not comparable, talking about success, to 'Future Nostalgia' or 'Disco' but it is still an album that has reached the #8 position on the UK official album chart. I think that Melanie at least deserves the nomination for Best British Female, as she was present during this difficult year with her whole audience. Also because I can't think to other british female artists who have released albums that entered the charts in 2020 besides Dua Lipa, Celeste, Ellie Goulding and Gabrielle ... We know very well the music industry how it works, actually speaking I see it almost impossible but trying doesn't cost anything My campaign on IG slowly is taking hold, if you would like to share my last post I would be grateful https://www.instagram.com/p/CMdUtCEHjVZ/ |

I'd say there's certainly a decent amount of names in contention, as well as the four you've said: Arlo Parks, beabadoobee, Laura Marling, Charli XCX and Jessie Ware come to mind.

Charli released another album last year 'how I'm feeling now' it was nominated at the Mercurys so I'd say she has a decent chance for the Brits. |

As much as I wished she would get better recognition for this album, Melanie is still an independent artist, not backed by any label in the UK. That is key for nominations at the Brits, as it is such an institutionalised organisation.
Put it this way, the only way that Mel could ever get another nomination at all would be if her next album would be released by a big lable. Unfortunately, #8 in the charts doesnt mean much for Brits success. Many other female artists with lables behind them sold and reached much higher than that. Plus, the album wasnt even on any end-of-year Best Of lists, which is usually another parameter of being critically acclaimed. It would be incredibly rare for albums that dont make those lists, to get any recognition. Finally, the British music industry is awful. It's a dog eat dog scenario and even though Mel did better than before last year, she has over 20 years of being slandered by the industry behind her. Unless she would storm the charts completely and get in the Best of 2020 lists, Im afraid her chances of recognition are barely none... And to be honest, I think her last album is a really great progression for Melanie. It is the first album in a long time where you can really see her grow and spread her creative flair. HOWEVER, when you compare it to other music out there by similar artists, it is not that amazing. I dont mean to be rude, and I absolutely adore the album. But it has very deep flaws too, and whilst it is very well produced for her standards, when it comes to overall quality across the field, it is only an ok album. For someone that has been in the industry for so long, you would expect a bit better music... This last paragraph is mainly my own opinion, not facts. It just makes sense to me a bit that she is not at the stage of being a great artists yet. If she continues to grow creatively like she did in the last couple of years then maybe she will eventually get to be the artists she is meant to be and that she can absolutely be! Hope she does! |
