Alan McManus has retired from professional snooker following his defeat in World Championship qualifying on Friday.

McManus, a Crucible semi-finalist as recently as 2016, lost 6-3 to Bai Langning to miss out on a return later this month, and announced that he had played his last match as a professional.

"You've got to be realistic," said the Scot, nicknamed 'Angles' owing to his ability to get out of seemingly impossible snookers. "I'm not good enough to compete at any sort of level that I'd like to so there's no reason for me to play on."

Since 2011 Stephen Maguire has lost as a seed in the first round 7 times. That's a shocking record

I wonder when was the last time a World Championship session ended two frames early. If Higgins v Tian ends up finishing 10-9 it might be the longest ever match.
