It's Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood shooting up to the top spot with their 1966 psychedelic folk wonder Sand. I have personally managed to get that track played on both Radio One (Simon Mayo) and Radio 2 (Brian Matthews) using the same anecdote about living literally next door to notorious Changi Prison in 1970, complete with armed guards in the tower overlooking our garden in Singapore. My mum taped the song off the radio when I was at school using my reel-to-reel tape, and I came greatly to appreciate that record as the years went by. So, Nancy & Lee's 4th number one together, Lee's 5th number one in total, and Nancy's 7th number one, including one with her dad Frank. All of them as oldies! What a back catalogue, so cool!

The Supremes 1966 under-appreciated throbbing dance masterpiece is also into the top 10, the late Mary Wilson's second appearance of the year in the top 10. New entries include: Gabrielle's latest single, for a sweet 28 years of charting, highest newie at 43; Smith & Burrows grabbing a 3rd track in a few months; some debut country from Jimmie Allen & Brad Paisley; Bruce Springsteen's latest track off his album, his 4th I think; and notably we now have 3 Ex-Beatles on the chart: John Lennon's 1973 album track currently covered by Richard Ashcroft, Ringo Starr's new beat-heavy message of love, and a Paul McCartney III track re-imagined by Phoebe Bridgers. Technically, it's probably not even got Macca on it, but it's commissioned by him, he wrote it, he gets a credit, and he played every instrument on the original version. Shame there's no George too!

Finally, it's "welcome back" to The Blow Monkeys. Robert Howard aka Doctor Robert is back in action with new material after a gap of 13 years since 2008's The Bullet Train went top 10, and gives them/him a chart span of 35 years with new material, still jazzy and 80's-feeling. My very first CD single purchase was an EP containing Digging Your Scene, It Didn't Have To Be This Way and another hit track backing up their latest less successful new single circa 1988. I bought it for Digging Your Scene which is a masterpiece.
