QUOTE(-Jay- @ Nov 6 2021, 02:56 AM) *
My show was tonight (5th November - Birmingham!). The first concert I've been to since November 2019 ohmy.gif

What a fabulous concert wub.gif That set list is pretty relentless... so many hits, so much boppery! The staging was somewhat more stripped back compared to the Party on the Dancefloor tour, but it was effective, very colourful.

It was Lisa's birthday show ohmy.gif It was a funny moment when she started chatting to the crowd and asking us if we'd sing her a happy birthday. Unbeknownst to her, the rest of Steps had planned to ask the crowd to do that for her later on in the show - so she kind of spoiled her own surprise! laugh.gif That's so Lisa! However she did get a surprise later on - there was a video message from her husband and kids, just before Heartbeat. Emotional!

There was also a lovely moment from H (which I guess he'll say at every show) talking about being your authentic self and his struggles/self-acceptance. I loved his outfits tonight. He was really living his best life!

A few comments about the songs:

The 5,6,7,8 / Groove Is in the Heart mash-up worked for me, it's nice that they like to do something different with it and have fun with it.
I actually really liked the Motown flavoured After the Love Has Gone, it fitted it well!
Something in Your Eyes and The Slightest Touch went all the way off, amazing!
Interestingly Say You'll Be Mine went down really well with the audience, such a good atmosphere. For a song that doesn't seem so popular with the fan base, it seems for that audience it's one of their greatest hits!
Chain Reaction with the drumming was a moment, quite the spectacle and they were clearly having so much fun with it.
Heartbeat was touching - the arrangement made it come across more emotional than ever before. In previous shows I think they always wanted to make When I Said Goodbye a moment but the audiences would always drift off a bit for that one - but I didn't sense that with Heartbeat, thankfully.
Better the Devil You Know/Vogue... one word: yaaaas!
Here and Now was an interesting choice to begin the encore, on paper it's not one of their biggest and best, but it totally worked and I loved the remix they used.
Scared of the Dark... at this point I consider it classic Steps, an incredible performance.

Honestly I could have just said every song was a highlight, there were no real "meh" moments for me. I think the only thing that could have improved it for me would have been a performance of To the Beat of My Heart.

It was such a party atmosphere! I'm so glad to have been to a show again after so long, and in my book you don't get much better than Steps, so what a great introduction back to live shows. wub.gif I really hope there's going to be a DVD/Blu-Ray because I definitely want to relive it again.

Last but not least, I got to see my amazing friend Jamesy wub.gif heart.gif

Well, where to begin! I was lucky enough to go to both Birmingham dates and even though the second date was only 2/3 full (curtains blocked off the remaining portion of the arena) I think the crowd were louder on the second night. Steps seemed in better form too!

Some show differences before discussing the set lists etc:

Lisa getting her birthday message from her family was gorgeous. It really was typical Queen of the Huns Liza to spoil her own surprise!

There definitely seemed to be more casuals at the second night, the appreciation for each member seemed more split. H seemed quite overcome when people started chanting his name while talking about the LGBTQIA+ community.

I noticed Claire, Lisa and Lee miss a few erm… Steps or lyrics over the couple of days but that really is nitpicking. They really do put on an amazing show.

So, the show itself.

A very very strong set list and you wouldn’t know what was missed until after and you were listening to their back catalogue. A few questionable song choice places but again, at the time, you wouldn’t pick up on it. Chain Reaction and ITWYMMF just seem “plonked.”

I am not a fan of After The Love has gone but what they did with it this time round was fully amazing. For me, it’s up there with Love U More as a tour mix we really need.

I really really enjoyed the mashups with 5678/Groove is in the heart and Better the Devil/Vogue. Lee’s vocals on the former were a particular highlight as was his “Wild Thing!” I melted.

Something in Your Eyes and The Slightest Touch absolutely go off live! I am surprised they (Steps) were surprised with how popular they are.

The new tracks seemed to go down well (except for maybe A Hundred Years…)

It was really lovely to see Jay again and can’t wait for our next gig where our paths will cross - Little Mix maybe? Thank you for my badge!

Also had M&G yesterday and thankfully it all seemed to be a bit better camera/photo wise. Let’s see how the photos come out! I definitely left an impression on Lee that’s for sure!

I Like the reactions you mentioned for something in your eyes and the slightest touch and equally it seems a few at the show are underwhelmed with a hundred years of winter like I am.
