Here we go then, the big one - the old enemies meet again! Most recently in the 2010 World Cup which Germany won 4-1, although the game is largely fabled for the infamous Frank Lampard ghost goal not given which would have evened things up at 2-2 and less widely know for being the game which ended Gareth Barry's England career laugh.gif

Germany are wildly inconsistent and England are terribly boring. Whose going to win this one?

Can't call it at all, except it will be a very nerve-wracking watch! laugh.gif Both seem very evenly matched from what I've seen with different strengths and weaknesses. Germany aren't the team they were a decade ago, but England needs to step up a gear too. They'll be huge pressure on them both due to the history so it will depend on how that will affect them both. A draw with extra time and penalties would be painful but I'd say that's the likely outcome atm!

Wonder if Southgate can ‘change things’ like at the last World Cup when they finally won a penalty shoot out and beat Germany at a tournament for the first time since 1966?

I would also like to see how Three Lions performs with an England win!

I'm strongly feeling a soul crushingly dull 0-0 and England losing on penalties x (either that or Germany winning like 4-0)

We beat Germany 1-0 at Euro 2000 in the group stage but it would be the first in a knockout stage

On paper this truly is like 3-1 England, looking at the teams in their current forms. However the game is never played on paper and they'll find a way to mess things up. Hope I'm wrong.

Really don't know, with France and Portugal out, it seems the underdogs are performing better, will Germany just fall in that bracket as well, really leaning towards an England win, plus since their last 5 meetings England haven't beaten Germany, could the tables be turned towards England favour.

Deep down I'm going for an England win possibility in extra time. unsure.gif

Germany are a poor side presently but also might have something to prove especially for Low! Plus the teams who started slowly in the groups are all stepping up in the business end of the tournament.

The 'underdog' team is actually Germany, but I understand feeling that way because of history and how close England is for people that live there, obviously. However if you were to take a step back and look at the matchup objectively as the teams stand right this minute, there isn't a doubt England should be considered the favorite. This isn't your parents' or grandparents' Germany squad.

After what has happened in the past few days I think if England win today euro fever in England will hit 1996 levels because this would be the best and most realistic chance of making it to a final and actually winning a tournament in decades.
