QUOTE Post Malone's Top 20 biggest songs on the UK's Official Chart revealed
12 July 2021 | By George Griffiths Post Malone has become one of the most bankable and reliable hitmakers over the past few years, and his return is no exception. Motley Crew, the first single from the rapper's fourth studio album, due out this year, is somewhat of a return to Posty's more rap-driven origins, rather than the pop-orientated sound he pushed on his last album, 2019's Hollywood's Bleeding - his second UK Number 1 album. To commemorate Motley Crew's release, we've collated the data on Post Malone's Top 20 biggest songs on the Official Chart. Below we've zoned in on the New York star's Top 5 most-streamed tracks, but the full Top 20 at the bottom of the article includes fan favourite hits such as 2016 breakthrough Congratulations and collabs with artists as varied as Kanye West, Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber. 5. Wow. Released: 2018 Official Singles Chart peak: Number 3 Chart sales: 1.34 million The second single released from 2019's Hollywood's Bleeding, Wow stripped away a lot of the excess that had been featured in a lot of past singles. It's a bouncy, carefree acoustic beat that carries Post's flow for most of the song, as he waxes lyrical about his dramatic and full-throttle rise to fame. 4. I Fall Apart Released: 2016 Official Singles Chart peak: Number 19 Chart sales: 1.38 million The sixth and final single from Post Malone's 2016 debut album Stoney, I Fall Apart became the highest-charting single from that record and the most popular track from the LP as a whole. Interestingly enough, though, it was only released as a single in 2017, following the success of Rockstar (more on that later), which functioned as the lead single for second record Beerbongs & Bentleys. 3. Better Now Released: 2018 Official Singles Chart peak: Number 6 Chart sales: 1.53 million A propulsive, synth-pop-inspired hit from Beerbongs and Bentleys, Better Now was the biggest indication at the time that Post's eyes were turning more towards the pop charts. Better Now's maudlin lyrics and high-energy production prove that the New York native was more than capable of playing in the sandbox of both rap and pop and come out unscathed. To date, Better Now has been streamed 184.6 million times by the British public. 2. Sunflower (with Swae Lee) Released: 2018 Official Singles Chart peak: Number 3 Chart sales: 1.93 million By far his biggest, most colourful offering to date, Sunflower was the lead track from the soundtrack to Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse and was also included on Posty's third album Hollywood's Bleeding. Sunflower was a photosynthesised hit, peaking at Number 3 on the Official Singles Chart while tallying 1.93 million combined chart sales in the process. Then in November 2020 following the release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales on Playstation 5, Sunflower returned to the Top 40 over two years on from its release after it sound-tracked gameplay on TikTok, despite the song not actually being in the game itself. Racking up 270 million streams in the UK to date (including a mammoth 63 million video views) Sunflower is Post Malone's most-played song in the UK, but with downloads included, one song pips it to the 'post' (sorry) in his all-time rundown... 1. Rockstar (feat. 21 Savage) Released: 2017 Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1 Chart sales: 2.29 million Take the title as something of a prophecy, Rockstar was, for most of the general public, their first introduction to Post Malone, and what an introduction. Moody, low-slung and instantly addictive, Rockstar is basically all chorus, with the only mix-up being the introduction of Atlanta rapper 21 Savage's guest verse. Both artists' first Number 1 hit on the Official Singles Chart, Rockstar is by far Post Malone's most successful track on UK soil. It stayed at the top spot for four weeks, and has amassed 158,000 downloads and a lofty 242 million streams to date. It's also the perfect encapsulation of why Post Malone's frequent collaborator Louis Bell has gone on to become a hitmaker for acts like Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Halsey. Surprised that 'Circles' is as low as #8, I guess the lower peaking songs ahead of it were released earlier so had more time to build up streams but even so I would have expected it to be ahead of at least 'Psycho'. Perhaps it'll work its way up in the future still.
A real shame that 'White Iverson' never got to be a top 100 hit in the UK. |

Was hoping that 'Hollywood's Bleeding' might appear here since it did sneak a week on the Official Chart. Might be an unpopular opinion but the title track was honestly one of my favourites on the album, although I loved it all. Still pains me that it got an #11 peak and just couldn't get Top 10.
Not Jackie Chan been in the Top 10 here, oh dear. |

'Hollywood's Bleeding' was my favourite of the album tracks from its titular album! (The album was a little patchy for me but that, 'On The Road', 'Die For Me' and 'Take What You Want' were great album tracks, I did love all of the singles too)

Beyond the Top 5 sales, 'Congratulations' and 'Psycho' both went 2x Platinum (1.2m) in October 2020, 'Circles' reached the mark too last month. I estimate that 'Jackie Chan' is above 1m with 'White Iverson' set to pass soon (going by the time took to move from Gold to Platinum, it should be on ~974k now and selling ~3.3k a week).

Perhaps it'll work its way up in the future still. That's surprising to me too, particularly as it's his 3rd most played song on Spotify. Not sure if it's disproportionately less popular in the UK (or on non-Spotify services - it actually has less YouTube views than 'Go Flex' of all things lol), or if it's something to do with the change to separate free/paid ratios making streaming possibly count less than it did for his earlier hits.A real shame that 'White Iverson' never got to be a top 100 hit in the UK. (Also surprised at them posting a #117 peak for 'White Iverson' because I didn't think they normally acknowledge below-#100 positions publicly.) |

I'd agree that the other tracks you listed are the best of the album tracks (especially Take What You Want) as well as Wow and Goodbyes although Circles was never a particular highlight for me. I do like it but would rank it fairly low on the album. |

The change to free/paid streams having different ratios came in mid-2018, and it seems to have benefitted his earlier songs - as all their streams would have been on the higher ratio at their peak - more than the introduction of video streams (mostly free and on the lower ratio) has for his later ones. That's possibly why Circles is so low, and certainly Rockstar being ahead of Sunflower despite the latter's higher streams has more to do with that than it does with downloads.

OCC confirm eight million sellers for Post Malone, so 'Jackie Chan' hasn't quite got there:

I find pretty much every single song of his forgettable. I can kind of understand (albeit respectfully disagree with) that for a lot of his songs but I don't know in what universe 'Circles' and 'Better Now' would be forgettable, both of those were huge earworms for me when they came out! (as was 'rockstar') (also yeah I guess the paid/free streaming split might explain the bigger bias to the older songs) |

Circles is by far my favourite track of his, a shame it isn't higher up the list.

Most of his tracks are fairly good - "Psycho" is terrible though. "Rockstar" probably still my favourite

'Psycho' is the only one of his big hits that I'm not a huge fan of (don't dislike it but it's definitely mid by his standards). IIRC 'Go Flex' was pretty awful though so thankful that never took off x
