Rangers have confirmed a Covid-19 outbreak has hit the club as they prepare for two key matches this week.

The Scottish champions say positive results were recorded, with those deemed close contacts also self-isolating.

The numbers affected - and whether they are players - has not been disclosed.

Steven Gerrard's side face Alashkert away in the second leg of their Europa League play-off on Thursday, followed by Sunday's Old Firm derby with Celtic.

Livingston striker Bruce Anderson suffered a diabetic fit and two other players vomited in the dressing room during their 2-0 loss to Hibernian.

On-loan midfielder Ben Williamson was withdrawn by parent club Rangers shortly before kick-off "because of a post-Covid blood test".

Then manager David Martindale had to replace Anderson, Craig Sibbald and Jack Fitzwater all within an hour.

"Wee Brucie has been taken to hospital," Martindale revealed.

"He took a diabetic fit and briefly passed out on the pitch. He'll probably be in overnight."

The Scottish FA is investigating tweets made about Rangers by St Mirren chairman John Needham.

Historical posts, including derogatory references to the Ibrox club's support, emerged over the weekend.

At least one of the tweets was made after Needham, who took over as chairman in the summer, was appointed on to the club's board last year.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst says he feels "so lucky" after being confirmed as the new manager of Rangers.

The Dutchman, 46, will replace Steven Gerrard - who left for Aston Villa - subject to being granted a work permit.

Van Bronckhorst played for Rangers between 1998 and 2001, claiming five trophies including two league titles.

He went on to win more with Arsenal and Barcelona, including the Champions League with the latter, before coaching Feyenoord to the Dutch title.

Hibernian head coach Jack Ross is disappointed that the SPFL has "no appetite" to listen to "common sense" concerns over a packed fixture list in December.

Hibs and Celtic will each play nine matches next month after League Cup final weekend fixtures were rearranged for the following midweek.

Remarking on "peculiar governance", Ross explained: "When I mentioned it, they just chucked in another game. I don't know what would happen if I asked them again."

He added: "I think it was a fairly common-sense thing to say, not just for me but Celtic as well, because I know they have got an equally busy schedule with their European involvement.

"Allied to that, (Livingston manager) David Martindale has spoken publicly about it and another manager has privately said to me about the number of games they have got. So there is a knock-on effect around the league.

"And it's not just about complaining and moaning, there is scientific support to say that the number of games some of the clubs are being asked to play in such a short period of time is not great."

Dundee have sacked manager James McPake with the club sitting second bottom of the Scottish Premiership.

The decision comes despite wins in their past two matches, including a 2-1 league victory at Hearts.

McPake, 37, had been in charge at Dens Park since initially taking over as caretaker in 2019 and led them to promotion last year via the play-offs.

And his last game in charge was Monday's 3-0 Scottish Cup last-16 defeat of Peterhead.

That set up a quarter-final meeting with Rangers at Dens Park next month. Dundee's next league game is away to Celtic on Sunday.

Jim Goodwin has been appointed Aberdeen manager on a two-and-a-half-year contract after he left St Mirren.

The Dons say the 40-year-old will take charge of the team for Saturday's league match at Motherwell, which has passed a pitch inspection.

Lee Sharp also joins Aberdeen from St Mirren as assistant to Goodwin, who had been Buddies boss since June 2019.

Hibernian striker Kevin Nisbet will miss the rest of the season - including Scotland's World Cup play-off with Ukraine - after damaging knee ligaments in Sunday's draw with Celtic.

Nisbet went off in the first half after being fouled by Carl Starfelt and later left Easter Road on crutches.

He will see a specialist to discover the full extent of the injury.

Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous will serve a four-match Scottish Premiership ban - including an Edinburgh derby - after losing his red card appeal.

The 22-year-old was sent off for a foul on Ross McCrorie that gave Aberdeen a penalty in Hibs' 3-1 loss on Saturday.

It was the Easter Road side's 10th red card this season and Porteous' second.

Didn’t realise this was a thread tongue.gif
Being Scottish and living in Perth, I’m a huge St Johnstone fan (home team)
We are currently sitting 11th (relegation play off), 6 points ahead of Dundee in 12th, and 6 points behind St Mirren in 10th which is safety.

We have won our last 2 games and are unbeaten in our last 3, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we can avoid relegation!
