Avicii Singles Rate 2021
 Tim Bergling better known as Avicii would have been 32 just under two weeks ago. He sadly died at the age of 28 but left behind a fantastic discography, which was last rated in the Dance forum back in 2017 (results here). It's therefore about time and perhaps overdue that we take another look back on his singles. Please rate at least three quarters (22/30) of the songs listed. A Spotify playlist is provided if you are unfamiliar with any songs. One 11 is allowed across all the titles. You have until 10th October to vote. Today marks ten years since 'Levels' was released so no better time to belatedly do some results...
30 Collide (with Leona Lewis) Average: 5.38/10 High: 8/10 (Doug, Lewis) Low: 0/10 (Cow Cow) "Collide" is a song performed by British recording artist Leona Lewis and Swedish DJ and record producer Avicii. It was written by Tim Bergling, Simon Jeffes, Arash Pournouri, Autumn Rowe, Sandy Wilhelm, with production helmed by Wilhelm under his production name Sandy Vee and Youngboyz. "Collide" is a house-inspired love song with instrumentation consisting of piano riffs and a guitar. The song was recorded for Lewis' third studio album Glassheart, but was not included on the album's final track listing. Upon the release of the single, Avicii claimed that Lewis and her record label, Syco, had sampled his song "Penguin" without his authorisation, and accused them of plagiarism. Before the lawsuit filed by Avicii and his record label reached the high court, Syco announced that the song would be a joint release between Lewis and Avicii. The song premiered in the United Kingdom on 15 July 2011 and was sent to Australian radio on 22 August 2011. "Collide" was released digitally via the iTunes Store on 2 September, as part of a collection of the original song, as well as remixes by Afrojack, Cahill, Alex Gaudino and Jason Rooney. The Afrojack remix is included as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of Glassheart. "Collide" received a mixed reaction from music critics. Some were complimentary of Lewis's vocal performance and compared it to Katy Perry's song "Firework", whilst others were critical of its musical structure. The track appeared in his album Stories and on his two-track EP Pure Grinding / For a Better Day. It was written by Tim Bergling (Avicii), Kristoffer Fogelmark, Albin Nedler and Earl Johnson. It was previously leaked on the internet with the title "Nothing to Lose." It is also part of the official soundtrack for the 2015 reboot of Need for Speed. A track that's never been very highly regarded in these rates perhaps as it was never given a UK single push and sounds a bit different to the rest of his output. It's not one of his biggest highlights so can't really moan. 28 Forever Yours (with Kygo & Sandro Cavazza) Average: 6.00/10 High: 8/10 (Cow Cow, Pete, Dan) Low: 4/10 (Seven) "Forever Yours (Tribute)" is a song by Norwegian DJ Kygo, Swedish DJ Avicii and Swedish singer and songwriter Sandro Cavazza. The song was released on 24 January 2020. The song was written by Sting, Jan Kask, Dominic Miller, Tim Bergling, Sebastian Furrer, Kygo, Sandro Cavazza and Marcus Thunberg Wessel. Forever Yours is originally a song that Avicii started working on in Malibu in March 2016 after Sandro showed him his demo. At the time, Avicii was taking a roadtrip from Los Angeles to Miami to work on new music that he would premiere at Ultra Music Festival that year. Forever Yours was one of several songs worked on during this trip. Later in 2016 Avicii played another version of the track at his Ushuaia closing set. However, Avicii could not release a final version of the song before his death. Norwegian DJ Kygo and Swedish singer and songwriter Sandro Cavazza got the opportunity to officially finish what Avicii had started. Although the entire production was remade from scratch, Sandro and Kygo took the liberty to use Avicii’s chords from the well known UMF 2016 version. Sandro Cavazza previously featured on Avicii's 2017 single "Without You" and featured on two songs from Avicii's 2015 album Stories, "Gonna Love Ya" and "Sunset Jesus". Sting and Dominic Miller are also credited as "Forever Yours" samples Sting's song "Shape of My Heart". A song which in its final form sounds rather more influenced by Kygo than Avicii but it was nice to hear this song put out in some form even after Avicii was never able to finish it himself, but ultimately not a song either of them will be most remembered for by anyone. 27 Dancing In My Head (with Eric Turner) Average: 6.00/10 High: 9/10 (photografdemon) Low: 4/10 (Lewis) "Dancing in My Head" is a song by American recording artist Eric Turner. Originally co-written and produced by frequent production partner Eshraque "iSHi" Mughal, the song featured Swedish DJ Avicii (while also using his alias Tom Hangs). His two remixes are known as the "Avicii's Been Cursed" Mix (the club mix version) and the Tom Hangs Remix (the radio edit version). Both remixes were released as individual downloadable tracks. A music video was made for the Tom Hangs remix (the intro uses a portion of the Avicii's Been Cursed Mix), and lyric videos were also made for both remixes. All of the videos were published to YouTube through Eric Turner's Vevo channel, including a behind-the-scenes video for the music video. The song reached number 188 in the UK. This one I never really cared for, it's decent but one of the last Avicii tracks I would go and revisit, the vast majority of his output was better. 26 For A Better Day Average: 6.08/10 High: 9/10 (photografdemon, Lewis, Pete) Low: -1/10 (Tawdry Hepburn) "For a Better Day" is a 2015 single by Swedish EDM producer Avicii featuring uncredited vocals by American singer Alex Ebert released on Universal Music. The track appears on his album Stories and on his two-track EP Pure Grinding / For a Better Day. It was written by Tim Bergling (Avicii) and Alex Ebert. A music video was produced for the song, which was filmed in Hungary. To accompany the renaming of the Ericsson Globe to the Avicii Arena, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra released a version of "For a Better Day" with Ella Tiritiello on vocals. Arranged and conducted by Erik Arvinder, an accompanying music video was shot featuring Tiritiello on the roof of the arena. Another track of his that wasn't much of a UK hit, this one I do feel gets a bit of a hard time here as it was a bit of new territory for Avicii then, nonetheless it is very good. |

The track was released as a digital download in Sweden on 26 February 2013. It is the final production for Avicii's successful project "Avicii X You". The song features sequences from Kian Sang (melody), Naxsy (bassline), Martin Kupilas (beat and rhythm), Ваня Хакси (break), Jonathan Madray, Mateusz Kolata, TheW and Christian Westphalen (effects). The song is written in the key of G minor, at a tempo of 126 BPM. 24 Broken Arrows Average: 6.25/10 High: 10/10 (Seven) Low: 3/10 (photografdemon) "Broken Arrows" is a 2015 single by Avicii featuring uncredited vocals from Zac Brown of American country music group Zac Brown Band, released on Universal Music. The track appears on his album Stories. "Broken Arrows" combines Brown's vocals with "thumping bass and twinkling synth lines". Like one of Avicii's previous singles, "Hey Brother", "Broken Arrows" is a dance song containing elements of country music. It is written in the key of G major. Chris Parton of Rolling Stone described Brown's vocals as "crystal-clear" and the song's hook as "a cross between a game-show theme song and something from Nintendo's Super Mario Brothers". It is inspired by the life of Dick Fosbury, who revolutionized the high jump by introducing a new technique known as the Fosbury Flop. Richard Neil plays the coach in the video. Another track from 'Stories' that never got the full attention it was due, I do think it could've been somewhat of a minor UK hit at least if they released it as the 2nd single in place of 'For A Better Day'. 23 SOS (feat. Aloe Blacc) Average: 6.31/10 High: 9/10 (Dobbo) Low: 0/10 (Tawdry Hepburn) "SOS" is the first posthumous single by Swedish DJ Avicii featuring co-production from Albin Nedler and Kristoffer Fogelmark, and vocals from American singer Aloe Blacc. It was released on 10 April 2019 and is included on his posthumous third studio album Tim, released on 6 June 2019. The single is also his second number-one (and his first posthumously charted single to reach number-one), as well as Blacc's first, on Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, in its 1 June 2019 issue. The song was produced by Albin Nedler, Kristoffer Fogelmark, and Avicii. It features an interpolation of "No Scrubs" by TLC, written by Tameka Cottle, Kandi Burruss, and Kevin "She'kspere" Briggs. The song was released on 11 August 2017 as the second single from Avicii's EP, Avīci (01). A remix EP was released on 17 November 2017. "Lonely Together" was the last single released by Avicii during his lifetime before he died in 2018. Ora performed "Lonely Together" at 538 Koningsdag festival in the Netherlands, a week after Avicii's death. She dedicated her performance to the DJ and held a moment of silence. In retrospect I don't have too much sympathy for Avicii in the Collide-gate scandal as he himself never credited the vocalists for many years. Fade Into Darkness is definitely the better song though.
No big losses in the bottom 5, For A Better Day is definitely his worst single ever imo. X You is my fave to drop out so far, beautiful instrumental. Not too fussed Lonely Together is out, overrated song! Should have scored it even lower myself... |

20 Tough Love (feat. Vargas & Lagola & Agnes) Average: 6.50/10 High: 9/10 (Dan) Low: 5/10 (ElectroBoy, awardinary, Seven, Tawdry, Lewis) "Tough Love" is the second posthumous single by Swedish DJ Avicii, featuring Swedish singer Agnes and Vargas & Lagola. It was released on 9 May 2019, with the music video premiering on 14 May 2019, as the second single from Avicii's posthumous studio album Tim. Avicii had previously collaborated with Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir of Vargas & Lagola on "Silhouettes", "Hey Brother" ,"Without You" and "Friend of Mine". Avicii had previously worked on the song in 2016 before his last Ultra Miami show. "Tough Love" initially had a different song structure, but was reworked during Tim's final studio sessions in March 2018. Before his death, Tim had sent a message to Salem and Vincent that he wanted the song to be a duet by a "real couple. Or a couple that have worked together enough to be almost considered a couple!" Pontare’s wife, Swedish singer Agnes Carlsson, also features on the song. "Tough Love" also features Indian influences from the movie Raanjhanaa (specifically the song Banarasiya) in a melodic passage that was inspired by Avicii studying the music of northwest India, which he had played for Pontare and Al Fakir before his death. Nice to see this one make the top 20 here, deserves to be regarded as an Avicii classic but in reality never had any chance of being a chart hit. 19 Fades Away (feat. MishCatt or Noonie Bao) Average: 6.58/10 High: 9/10 (ElectroBoy, Riser) Low: 4/10 (Cow Cow, Seven) "Fades Away" was released as the fourth single on 5 December 2019. While the album version features vocals from Noonie Bao, the single version features vocals from Costa Rican singer MishCatt to coincide with the Avicii Tribute Concert for Mental Health Awareness where she performed it live. The last single released from 'Tim', which didn't have much of a promo push beyond minor R2 playlisting. Nice to see this top 20 as well. 18 Blessed (as Tom Hangs feat. Shermanology) Average: 6.75/10 High: 9/10 (ElectroBoy) Low: 6/10 (Cow Cow, awardinary, Seven, Tawdry, Lewis, Pete, Dobbo) "Blessed" is a song by Swedish house producer Avicii (credited under the name Tom Hangs) featuring vocals from Shermanology. Like many of Avicii's early tracks this had been leaked on the internet between late 2010 to April 2011. The track was officially released on May 23, 2011 through Spinnin' Records. It was further released on March 6, 2012 in the United States, and then 3 months later in the United Kingdom on June 21, 2012. The song was included on Dutch DJ Tiësto's Club Life: Volume One Las Vegas compilation. It was also featured on the Stolichnaya vodka TV advert aired during the UEFA Euro 2012 football tournament.. A rather mid-tier Avicii single from back in his early days and it seems we mostly all agree on that. 17 Superlove (with Lenny Kravitz) Average: 6.85/10 High: 9/10 (ElectroBoy, Tawdry) Low: 5/10 (Seven, Lewis, Dan, Dobbo) ""Superlove" is a song by Lenny Kravitz from his 2011 album Black and White America, which was remixed by Avicii. Lenny has released a music video for this song to YouTube on August 27. Oops at me appearing in one of these Low sections, but yeah this is one of my least favourite of Avicii's singles, not as stand-out as most of his material (though it'd be a 7/10 from anyone else, I wanted to spread my scores out a bit to help my faves or most of these songs would be 10s). 16 Lay Me Down Average: 6.92/10 High: 10/10 (ElectroBoy, Tawdry) Low: 5/10 (Cow Cow, Dobbo) "Lay Me Down" is a song by Swedish DJ and record producer Avicii. Written by Avicii, Ash Pournouri, Nile Rodgers and Adam Lambert, the track appears on Avicii's debut studio album, True (2013). American singer-songwriter Adam Lambert also provides vocals for the track, while Nile Rodgers provides guitar backing. The track was released as the fifth single from his album on April 21, 2014. The song is featured in a 2014 commercial for Lipton Ice Tea. The music video shows Avicii performing the song live during his True Tour. However, Adam Lambert and Nile Rodgers do not appear in the video. The song is written in the key of A minor. Nearly took us to the top 15 to eliminate a True single but here we go. Never been a huge fan of this one, I'd have put it a bit lower in this rank. It's great but when you compare it to the rest of his True singles which are all outstanding.. |

I mean, 'Collide' is fairly bad but there are definitely some worse tracks he's been associated with. I'm happy with the results so far though, glad to see some of the real guff in his discography falling short of the top 20.
