The name, concept and inspirations are all right up my street so I've given I've been massively hyped for this.
Just finished episode 1 and it was a good start. Very excited for what else is to come. The anthology series for horror is sorely underused so I hope this is the first series of many. |

Yep just finished the second. Preferred Lot 36, but another great concept executed well in Graveyard Rats. I'm going to love this series going off the first two!
Are they all about human greed or is that just a coincidental theme of the opening two? |

The Outside is basically a warped, deranged Black Mirror episode :') fun but definitely the weak link so far.

Pickman's Model was the perfect choice to do this Halloween evening. Possibly the most "horror" of the ones I've seen so far. Loved the concept and with some horrifying moments throughout, it's one of my favourites so far.

I’m as far as The Autopsy and that’s my favourite so far, really well paced. Lot 36 was a bit too obvious I thought, it basically signposted very clearly what was going to come so I wasn’t even vaguely surprised or horrified at how it panned out. The rats one was kinda odd I thought, although I did think the lead actor did a really good job of bringing the character to life.

Seen the first three of these - I agree Autopsy is easily the best, actually really well developed and acted for a stand-alone story and while pretty gross at points, had a real sense of suspense and fear with a great ending.
The other two had a problem with not being, ahem, fleshed out enough - though the Rats one had some good tension and pay-off and the character was more well done. Lot 36 just fell flat, it did nothing with its themes or premise, left loads of unanswered questions and just felt generic, I would've sent that script back for a rewrite. I do love anthology series, but they do tend to be a bit hit-and-miss, I'm interested to see the rest of these though and I do love the Alfred Hitchcock Presents... style he's going for. |

Pickman's Model and The Viewing were my favourites.
If anything I felt it was more Twilight Zone reboot and hadn't considered Alfred Hitchcock, but both seem relevant |

We've finished and my favourites were The Autopsy and The Murmuring.
I liked the styling of a few of the others but they didn't feel complete as stories somehow. I had high hopes for The Viewing as that's the one in particular that I was enjoying the styling of but it I was ultimately really disappointed by where it went after the set up. The characters were good in it though and their debates up to the point they actually went for the viewing were the best part about it. |

The Murmuring
 The series really ended on such a high - I think that's my favourite! It was quintessentially quite Roman Polanski in its horror: the building became a manifestation of her mental state. Add onto that the stunning shots of the dunlins, the superb acting from the couple and the chilling horror of the family that once lived there and we have a great hour of TV! On the whole the series was a mixed bag. There are some that I will definitely return to in the future and others that I really wouldn't want to in a hurry. I do hope it becomes a yearly staple at Halloween though and that it encourages more directors to take an anthology approach to their releases - the concept is perfect for streaming sites and the modern era of TV viewers! |

Glad to see you loving The Murmuring too Haus! You've explained everything that made me love it, plus it helps that I love birds and am also fascinated by the way they fly like that. Both that and the Autopsy had perfect pacing for me and did a decent job of developing the plot in a way that gradually made you understand what was happening. My order would be:
01 The Murmuring 02 The Autopsy 03 The Outside - it was bonkers, reminded me of a Black Mirror episode which is a good thing 04 The Viewing - loved the first half, disappointed by the final section which just seemed entirely random and inconclusive 05 Graveyard Rats - I enjoyed the main character which helped this one a lot 06 Pickman's Model - I liked the concept but I thought it was poorly executed. The accent was just awful and there was too much of a gap between the paintings and the consequences, I would have liked to see more things in the paintings actually happen 07 Lot 36 - The setting was creepy but it was all pretty obviously signposted. Also, the woman seemed to be in the script solely for the ending section which made her feel entirely redundant as a character. Plus it's annoying that it didn't conclude properly, that scene wasn't enough for me... what happened next?!!! 08 Dreams in the Witch House (it just fell completely flat for me and I thought the standard of acting was pretty poor too) |

I will add some late appreciation for The Murmuring, that one really stood out, Jennifer Kent has been brilliant with showing the horrifying effects of grief in The Badadook and The Nightingale and did really well here too, and obvs I stan anything with birds
Think that was the only one apart from The Autopsy that grabbed me a lot unfortunately, the rest all had decent concepts but the execution was a bit muddled. The Viewing in particular I didn't really get at all, it looked beautiful and seemed like it was heading somewhere interesting but then...didn't xIt's certainly no Inside No. 9 (Not sure if you know it, Haus, but that's a great example of a twisted, horror/macabre anthology and it hits more than it misses!), but I agree that I hope it can encourage more of these anthology series as they're really not done enough. |
