Soooooo who do we think this is then? Surely someone who owns all the #1 singles is almost bound to post in here laugh.gif

And whilst we’re debating that, I’m also curious as to how many you own? I’m going to work out how many I bought later this evening

Not many.

I have Holler and Out Of Your Mind, which I bought some years ago online. I have Michael Jackson's no.1s collection, aaand Rage Against The Machine on digital download cassette. Hallelujah by Alexandra Burke. Hmmm. Poker Face, Bad Romance. California Girls and Teenage Dream aaand then I went download/ streaming, so that's it.

I bought every single one for 2000-2009 as a conscious effort to collect them. Have some from the 80s and 90s but just if i liked them. Probably about 300 in total.

Those are the physical ones.

Add in download ones then probably around 500ish

We did buy a few charity singles in the early 2000s when reality TV and charity shows still could inspire huge physical sales (Amarillo, Children in Need songs, even some of the X Factor singles though NONE of those were my choice x). I'm sure my parents have a lot more from earlier but they're at home and I myself, getting properly into music around 2006 when downloads were becoming the norm, have never really bought singles. I did use to for albums, but I only buy/stream digitally now.

I'll have to get back to you with how many number 1s I have a digital copy of as my library is 17 years old and huuuge laugh.gif

Good question - I don’t think not releasing a download is really a thing is it, to date anyway? Having a download available presumably costs very little and can only help you with chart performance.

I guess in the future sales might be so vanishingly small that people don’t bother releasing.

(This is the sort of thing that I might well obsessively do but for the fact that I have a small flat and am so terrible at taking care of physical products that I’ve given up on physical music completely.)

Think I've got about 300 on CD single. I still like to buy a lot of the ones released now, especially if they're signed. "As It Was" is my most recent one.

I remember reading a few articles over the years of others who did this but I presumed this became impossible after 2008 when #1s gradually stopped being released physically - there was a lot of buzz and media interest when Crazy by Gnarls Barkley reached #1 just on downloads, but this was really only due to the rules changing at that time which allowed a song to chart a week before physical release which was still needed at the time. Coldplay’s Viva La Vida was the first with no physical release in the UK (but got one abroad) and Leona’s Run the first with no physical anywhere, neither of which got noticed outside of chart forums like this.

My main physical single years spanned 2007 to 2010, I had a fair few from that time but they later got left behind in a house move. I’ll be gutted if any are worth anything now but given the amount I still see for pennies in charity shops I’m guessing not.

Britney Spears - … Baby One More Time
Atomic Kitten - Whole Again
Atomic Kitten - The Tide is High
Girls Aloud - Sound of the Underground
Beyoncé - Crazy in Love
The Black Eyed Peas - Where is the Love
Michelle - All This Time
Britney Spears - Toxic
DJ Casper - Cha Cha Slide
Natasha Bedingfield - These Words
Robbie Williams - Radio
Girls Aloud - I’lll Stand by You
Nelly Furtado - Maneater
Shakira - Hips Don’t Lie
Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This
Rihanna - Umbrella
Dizzee Rascal - Holiday

Some of The X Factor finalist singles too but god knows which. I was born in 2000 if you can believe that tongue.gif I was so sad when singles became harder to find in the late 00s or else this list would be a lot longer

I don’t have many current singles but when the charts were more interesting and cd singles were available, I’d probably buy 2-3 on average each week.

I thought that person collecting all the #1s was from the Haven forum?

I have no easy way of counting how many I've got because all my CD singles are in the attic, but I'd estimate it at around a similar number to Joseph!

well it's def not me laugh.gif

I dont have a complete set of physical singles for any artist or period. Impressed by how many you do have though!

I have no idea how many I've got, I've a lot from the 60's that are reissues, so not actually "period" as such, but I def have 3 Beatles, Telstar, Dizzy, Something In The Air, I'll Never fall In Again from that decade, albeit not necessarily UK versions.

Got loads from the 70's and 80's, maybe half of all of them I'd guess and then much less in the 90's thanks to Now albums and expensive CD singles. I've bought some in the 21st century but its rare since downloads came in - unless you count downloads in which case Ive bought loads. It's not really a physical copy though if you burn it to CD (which I do), it's just the only option available usually!
