Niall Horan's Official Top 20 biggest songs in the UK: Slow Hands, Heaven and more hits
15 June 2023

This week, Niall Horan is heading for Number 1 with his third album The Show.

Home to the Top 20 hit Heaven, it's on course to become the Irishman's second solo chart-topper following 2020's Heartbreak Weather. His debut album, Flicker, reached Number 3 in 2017.

After finding fame as a member of One Direction alongside Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik, Niall has carved out an enviable solo career including eight Top 40 singles.

His music, a deft blend of pop, soft rock and folk, has proven so infectious that he has recently announced a 57-date arena tour for early 2024. Given that Niall was unable to tour in support of Heartbreak Weather because of the pandemic, these shows across Europe, Oceania and North America are sure to feel even more joyful.

So, as his solo career approaches another milestone moment, we're unveiling the Mullingar-born musician's 20 biggest songs ever in the UK, including collaborations with Anne-Marie and Julia Michaels. But first, let's take a closer look at Niall's Top 5 to date:

5. What a Time (with Julia Michaels)
Released: 2019
UK chart units: 445,000
UK streams: 55m
Official Singles Chart peak: n/a
Taken from Julia's 2019 EP Inner Monologue Part 1, this lovely, understated duet has been a slow-burning success on streaming. Niall didn't write it, but we’d love to see him perform it on his upcoming tour.

4. Our Song (with Anne-Marie)
Released: 2021
UK chart units: 532,000
UK streams: 59m
Official Singles Chart peak: 13
Niall and Anne-Marie's vocals dovetail beautifully on this wistful pop ballad about a past relationship it's tough to move on from. The two singers enjoyed working together so much that later in 2021, they also teamed up for a cute cover of Fleetwood Mac's Everywhere in aid of BBC Children in Need. Let's hope we get a third duet from the pair sooner rather than later.

3. Nice to Meet Ya
Released: 2019
UK chart units: 535,000
UK streams: 60m
Official Singles Chart peak: 22
Niall really brings the swagger on this stomping, Britpop-inspired bop from Heartbreak Weather. It's an impressive demonstration of his musical range even before you check out the Diplo remix, which reimagines the guitar-led original as an arms-in-the-air electro-house anthem.

2. This Town
Released: 2016
UK chart units: 986,000
UK streams: 100m
Official Singles Chart peak: 9
Niall's first solo single is a folky ode to the one that got away. "I saw that you moved on with someone new," he sings over gently strummed guitar chords. "In the pub that we met he's got his arms around you." The poignant lyrics double as a celebration of Mullingar, the small market town where he grew up, adding to an utterly charming debut.

1. Slow Hands
Released: 2017
UK chart units: 1.4m
UK streams: 134m
Official Singles Chart peak: 7
Niall showed a more grown-up side on his funky and infectiously suggestive second single. "We should take this back to my place, that's what she said right to my face," he sings at the start, and it's safe to presume they won't be playing backgammon. An absolute tune that proved he could deliver bops as well as ballads, it spent 29 weeks on the Official Singles Chart.

Cue the “not sure this warranted a Top 20”. Heaven has sold just a shade over 200k to give perspective on the lower placings.

Cue the “not sure this warranted a Top 20”.

I mean, he's released 12 singles, so it just makes me laugh that they do a top 20 for artists like this!

'Slow Hands' is a great song but I wish 'Too Much To Ask' was top three, those are my fave two Niall tracks by a mile.

I don't think I was ever aware of the existence of his Julia Michaels collab, that must have completely passed me by,

Not sure this warranted a top 20 etc.

Pleasantly surprised 'This Town' is so close to being a millionaire, that's still my favourite song from him. I kind of expected 'Nice To Meet Ya' to be ahead of it though!

On the contrary, I always find it interesting to see which album tracks are doing the best, so a top 20 is great, I'll never complain at "too much" data from the OCC.

Hopefully On the Loose isn't too far behind Heaven, it's long overdue a silver certification.

Everywhere really was a bomb to be sitting so far behind even some album tracks.

It was just a pretty low effort cover for charity, not exactly the recipe for big streaming success (I see it didn't go top 200 on UK Spotify).
