The Time has come to consider who should be crowned Buzzjack's Favourite Male solo act following on from the female thread earlier this year. So what’s the criteria? As this is the UK Charts section there are some proviso’s around who can be nominated 1) The act in question must have had at least one Top 40 single in the UK on which they are individually credited 2) That credit may have been a feature 3) Groups are not eligible unless the members are credited with their own names on a top 40 single. 4) To avoid confusion on credits I will treat polyhex.com as the bible 5) By top 40 single I refer to the main UK singles chart not the sales chart or any other alternative chart. How do I Vote? Simples. Just PM me with your votes before 23.00 on Saturday 4th November 2023 with your top 30 list of your men of pop. Scoring: The act you place at No 1 on your list will receive 30 points, No 2 will get 29 points and so on until your 30th man gets 1 point. We then tally up your marks to give us the ultimate list! But I don’t like/ know 30 male solo singers? Firstly what are you doing on Buzzjack? But if you really can’t then that’s fine just submit what you can BUT your No 1 will only get the number of points for the number of acts you enter- for example if your list has 23 male acts then your No 1 gets 23 points etc. Feel free to use the thread to discuss/ stan for your fave’s but PLEASE DO NOT REVEAL YOUR SCORES FOR ANY ACT. Please double check (if in doubt) that the acts you vote for are actually solo acts. I would ask that where we have an act who was in a group and did some solo work you consider them in the context of their SOLO work only and vote accordingly. You will have a chance to consider the groups in the next rate so you'll still have an opportunity to point them in that rate! Any set of votes I consider to be non serious ones will be excluded from the rate- sorry @chartjack- rating is a serious thing Finally on the subject on non-binary acts- it is the simplest option to base rates like these on biological sex. This isn't a judgement on use of pronouns. AND ABOVE ALL HAVE FUN........AND BE NICE! So, are producers-only counted here unlike the previous Female Solo Singer?

Yes if they are indivdually credited. I changed the title to "act" instead of "singer"- to make it broader, they were for the female thread although "singer" I think made folk tend forget about producers and more urban acts so I tried to rectify that here.

I will make sure I vote in this!
I just wanted to clarify if we would treat 'The Streets' as a band or a solo-act? I've always considered it to just be Mike Skinner (he won the BRIT award for 'British Male Solo Artist') but Wikipedia counts them as a band due to him having 'touring members' that join him for live performances. |

I was about to reply to this post to remind people of the very little known and obscure fact that Tame Impala is actually just one guy, but then I remembered Tame Impala have (has) never made the top 40 so they're (he's) not eligible for this regardless ddd Cool at us having another one of these for me to vaguely consider voting in and then inevitably not get around to it due to being too much effort (maybe this will finally be the time though xx) |

I'd say solo as he's the only permanent member |

Putting something together... My list is going to include a lot of people with one minor top 40 hit!

I might be tempted to vote in this so I can give Porter my 30 pts (+ based on those previous results it looks like y'all could use my help....)
though a lot of my male faves have no top 40 hits or charting singles at all so this may be a bit of a challenge lmao |

What about Panic! at the Disco? A group from 2004-2015, but a solo act (with some of their biggest hits) from then until this year!

Well I would say it depends what you are rating- if you're rating their output since 2016 then fine- otherwise save your votes for the group rate- of course you could like both but I would rate accordingly |

Brendon Urie does also have a solo hit under his own name to make it a bit less ambiguous remember!

I think the only solo Female DJ credited that wasn't a singer too that I could find were Hannah Wants with "Rhymes", now after the list revealed, Hannah Laing notched a hit, as well as Eliza Rose and Peggy Gou but they were also vocalists too.
Also for nonbinary acts, I think sorting them into their "biological sex" is wrong and hurtful, I'm sorry but respecting a persons view of themselves is more important than trying to neatly divide every1 into a neat little binary for a fun pop music game, some nonbinary people do also identify themselves with their assigned sex at birth, but that's not universal |

There was also B.Traits who had a low top 40 hit in 2012.

I suppose it also applies to Years & Years, I can’t think of any other act like that though. |
