As I've said on a previous thread, I take a very dim view of people who carry knives, thousands of peoples' lives are blighted every year by knife crime; and the facts are, if you carry one then you are actually more likely to be a victim than if you don't.
There might be some people who need to carry knives for work purposes, but these tend to be small pen-knives, stanley knives or craft knives, NOT the huge, serrated edge hunting knives that some idiots are going around with. I'm of the opinion that if you don't have a damn good reason to carry a knife, then you should be arrested on the spot, simple as. As far as I'm concerned there's no more valid reason for carrying a knife around than carrying a gun around....

A couple of years ago, I was robbed in the street, in the early afternoon, by a guy who held a large kitchen knife up at me. Thankfully, because I gave him my bag straightaway, I wasn't hurt, but it was a terrifying experience. For me, he was just a coward cos I'm only little and was hardly a threat to him.So I think there's never any reason to carry a knife.

I think there should be detectors at EVERY school these days, especially the urban areas where knife crime seems all the more prevalent.
The message should be loud and clear - zero tolerance. And ALL knives should be banned - flick-knives, even.... there's no reason for anyone to be carrying one, or the all-in-one camping-style knives you see so much of these days.

I keep a serrated hunting knife at home for dealing with potential burglars but I would never go out with it and there is no reason why anyone should have one, I do when I go out at night carry a knuckle duster which when I leave any licenced premises or walk around in the streets at night I wear for security reasons but thats not as bad as having a knife
In answer to the question yes there should be increased sentences and carrying a knife in public should carry an automatic prison sentence like carrying a gun does

I disagree, people have been killed and permanently injured by knuckledusters, it's still a weapon and can still be used in the pursuit of a crime. Here's a list of the people who use knuckledusters -
Drug dealers Muggers Mob enforcers Gangs Nightclub bouncers (although they're not meant to...) Football hooligans General assorted villains
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are one paranoid guy. You live in a sodding village, you have no reason or justification to go around tooled up with any sort of weapon. The fact that you're admitting all this and seem quite proud of the fact frankly worries me as to the state of your mental health. Please seek professional help..... I aint taking the p***, I am genuinely concerned.....

Where have I said I am proud of it
I am not boasting about it and I wish society was not crumbling the way it is that requires me to carry one, I would love a peaceful and tranquilic society but the fact is that it is a violent lawless almost anarchic society out there and therefore remedies have to be taken
1 on 1 I can more than look after myself but chavs hang around and attack in packs of 10, there are drug addicts who carry knives and act wildly because they need money for their next fix, you have happy slappers who hang around in packs on street corners and so on so therefore preventative measures have to be taken
Complacency and "it won't happen to me" is the wrong approach, it is far better to assume it will happen and prepare accordingly than be complacent and have it happen

Okay, and if the filth nab you carrying a set of brass knuckles they are just gonna assume that you are one of these 'chavs' or 'drug addicts' and run you in as a suspected assailant as opposed to a victim, and quite rightly so; If i were a copper on the streets of London I would not hesititate to arrest anyone carrying any weapon, whether they were a so-called "Law-abiding citizen" or not....
And dont for a second presume the crime in your village is anything like the crime on the streets of the East End and North London because that just aint the case, and I dont feel the need to walk around tooled up; and I aint complacent either, I just dont go around acting like a bloody victim... Everything you're saying can be said by some 14 year old kid to justify taking a knife into his or her local comprehensive and it is utter bullsh!t... It aint an excuse for that kid and it aint an excuse for you... The "wild west" approach that you seem to be advocating is just going to lead to more problems, not any solutions, take a look at America, just about everyone owns a gun, has it stopped crime? Has it fukk....
If you know for a fact that there are people carrying weapons around in your area and who these people are, then phone the bloody police and make the lazy fukkers do their jobs....
And if you aint boasting about it, why even mention it....?

I mentioned it because it was relevant to the debate
People who are non criminals carry knives as a precaution or as a means of self defence so the fact that I carry a sort of weapon as a means of self defence is highly relevant to the debate as I am admitting being one of the people who go tooled up for self defence
I should not carry a knuckle duster but I would rather carry one and face the consequences of the law than have my mother identify me on a mortuary slab after being stabbed in a robbery/mugging or wake up covered in tubes because 10 chavs decided to turn me over so they can film it on a mobile phone
The fact of the matter is Scott that anything can happen anywhere at any time, everyone who has been mugged or happy slapped or whatever outside of the ghetto's probably said to himself "it won't happen to me" and I bet each and every one that has been in that predicament will have cursed themselves for not having been "tooled up"
I am sure you think it is paranoid of me but I would rather end up in a police cell than end up in an intensive care unit or even worse a mortuary

If you wanna live your life in that sort of fear, far be it for me to deny you the pleasure....
But, seriously, if it comes down to you against 10 people, aint no knuckledusters or knives gonna help you, and you'll more than likely be charged with carrying an offensive weapon as well as taking the beating, so I'm sorry, I dont see any benefit at all... Four young lads in Holloway got beaten up by three people recently, the four had the advantage of numbers, it still didn't help, so your "advantage" probably wont help you too much...
Oh, and don't forget, your so-called "advantage" can easily be turned against you.....
And I never assume that "it wont happen to me", how can I? I live in the most violent city in UK ffs!! I've a lot more reason to worry about it than you do, but I don't particularly, I dont allow it to consume my life the way you clearly do....

I don't let it consume my life, I am just making sure I am prepared
Same with the hunting knife under the pillow, I hope I never have cause to use it but were a burglar to enter my house I would use it without hesitation and would use it to kill not disable, like I said, in all the years I have had one I have never had cause to use it and I hope I never do same with the knuckle dusters
If when I go out next Friday night I get confronted by 10 chavs I will use that knuckle duster to take out as many as I can before I am overpowered or they run away after seeing what happened to a couple of their mates as essentially ppl that attack in packs are cowards
I would much rather have a gun at least that way I can keep the gun in the house to greet a burglar and have it available on a night out as a deterrent but possession of a gun carries an automatic 15 years so there is absolutely no chance I would risk having a gun
Like I said, I have never had a situation where I have had a burglar in my house or a situation where I have had to use a knuckleduster and I hope I never have to on both counts

I'm sorry mate, but I will never agree that there's a valid reason to go around tooled up.....
If you feel the need to go around with a weapon in your pocket while going on a night out to supposedly enjoy yourself, then you are clearly going to the wrong pubs/clubs.......
I go to the West End/Soho as well on a night out sometimes, I still don't see the need for it, there are so many coppers around in Central London just looking for an excuse to pounce on someone starting a ruck, and I've rarely seen any serious sh!t go down.....

To keep a knife under your pillow, I think is sereiously unhealth as it seems you are doing it in fear. What a poor way to live your life.

I don't fear though, I don't feel scared but I also like to know that I am prepared in the event I open my eyes and someone is inside my property who I didn't invite in

I agree that anyone caught with a knife should be arrested and charged with carrying an offensive weapon. Why are there such large knives anyway? They should be kept by specialists and securely locked up if they are needed.
