OK so with all the vampire love atm with Twilight & True Blood etc, it seems the fanged ones are back at the top of their game.
Here cometh the CW's new show [the US network that airs Supernatural Smallvile, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl etc].

Based on the books of the same name by L.J Smith it starts in September and despite looking like Twilight squashed into TV form [thought the books were released before Meyers], I might check it out as it looks cool.
I don't know any of the cast except Ian Somerhalder from Lost who'll be playing one of the vampire brothers.

Thoughts?

I'll start to watch this. It sounds interesting enough. All the reviews i've heard of the pilot episode so far have been average/not very good, but I always take those things with a pinch of salt. Ian Somerhalder doesn't even appear in the pilot (or at least not until the end) iirc, and i'd guess a lot of the show will be about the tension between the two brothers so i'll still watch the show for a while.

Only problem with this show is it's obviously going to be compared to True Blood and the Twilight series.

I shall be watching this. Seen the majority of the first ep what with all the clips they have sent out  But whether i stick to it is another thing. I hope they keep the dark vamp theme in the series and not turn it all gossip girl-y
Am definately going to give this a chance at least.

I'm trying to avoid the clips. Out of all the new shows starting this year in the States it seems the only one worth watching imo!

I don't understand why the CW is so underlooked :( It has a strong selection of shows that nobody every seems to watch. Nah they'd rather watch CSI, Cold Case or another repetitive police drama in their droves. Americans have always baffled me.

CW will never be recognised in the same way as ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC. :P It has a lot less funding, as in compared to the other networks it has NO MONEY AT ALL. Even the biggest shows down the years like Smallville, Gossip Girl, Charmed & Supernatural can barely keep the network afloat. In fact if it wasn't for America's Next Top Model then the network would probably cease to exist. Say for example if Supernatural was on FOX, it would get 8-10million viewers weekly easily...

Such a shame money is the only obstacle! Even when it was the WB it was the best network with shows like Buffy, Dawson's Creek, Charmed, Angel and now Smallville, Supernatural etc.

The gap is so drastic though. I was just checking the most watched primetime shows list for the last season and they had nothing in the top 100

The CW never gets the credit they deserve. It's beyond unfair. They host several fantastic TV shows but they're budget is far less than other main stream networks. :(

Charmed's first episode gave the WB 7.70 Mill... The last episode got 4.49 Million... They lost half of their viewership after Shannen Doherty left :(

Also, Smallville's first episode gave the WB 8.4 Million...

One Tree Hill viewership averages around 3Million+

I think it's just to do with the fact that TV figures have fallen due to more variety, internet etc. All the networks got much higher figures in the 90s than now. But most shows start off stronger than they finish viewing figures wise. And yeah as much as I loved 'Charmed', it did become nonsensical and ridiculous at time after Doherty left. :(

Erm they didnt lost viewers just cos Shannen left, its just the way things go with every show. In fact, Season 5 and Season 6 were very highly rated. Smallville also had super high ratings in Season 1-5, especially the first 3 seasons. Smallville barely does 3 million nowadays

But then Charmed was on the WB, not CW. Smallville was also on WB for most of its journey. CW has much lower ratings.

I never said that they lost viewers because of her leaving, i just said after she left..

well it was certainly implied :P

Oh sorry  I didnt mean it to come out that way :P

But ill admit i used to have a theory that the ratings went down cos of Shannen leaving and basically people wouldnt watch it if she wasnt in it..

well obviously some of her fans left, but new ones appeared. I know quite a few that only started watching in Season 4. Season 6 had some of the highest rated episodes for example.

But let's not start a Charmed discussion here

Anyone interested in the show or books can check out that site :D

I've just started reading them and they're amazing. I just hope the CW isn't going to dumb it down and ruin it so it meshes with their GG/OTH etc audience but they probably will. It has potential to be a very good show not teen girl bait.

The CW have let OTH do some pretty dark storylines and they would include most things that Teen Dramas wouldnt even TOUCH let alone write about.
