Critical Reception

Carla Pearce of FemaleFirst mentioned that the single "Combines infectious synthesised riffs with a thumping beat to create a riot of a track that will no doubt become another smash hit." Nick Levine of Digital Spy award the song 3/5 stars describing the chorus as "catchy enough". UpdateTheBeat stated that "Ego" was a "women-empowerment" and it has the potential to be a number-one single! They went onto say, "The heavy beat is the first thing to strike you, as the girls warble away chanting: "You need to have a sit down with your ego!" If I was to describe the song in one word it would have to be- confident. Confident. CONFIDENT- oh that was three..." They also went on to say that the girls have "clearly matured" and became ore "willing to be more deep in their songs", he always stated the Vanessa stole the song with her powerful vocals. And finally stated that "Ego" is definitely the stand out track on the album. DirrtyRemixes.com stated that the single is "amazing" and "just can't stop playing it!" They also gave their views over the B-side, saying that the song is not the best song, but it has good potential. But the quality of "Ego" is amazing!

QUOTE(omrimayo @ Nov 25 2009, 10:03 PM) *
I hate them but this song is really good.

QUOTE(RobSummers @ Nov 25 2009, 10:16 PM) *
I think it'll get them another top 10 hit biggrin.gif

QUOTE(West @ Nov 26 2009, 02:52 AM) *
Top 10 I'm sure...they better hope this single revives their album like 'Issues' did in early 2009 for their debut or they are in real trouble

QUOTE(-Jay- @ Nov 26 2009, 02:54 AM) *
Probably Top 10. The equivalent week of January 2009 'only' required under 17,000 to make it. Would be surprised if The Saturdays didn't do 20k+ at least.

QUOTE(Jack @ Nov 26 2009, 02:57 AM) *
Top 5 easily I reckon. By far one of their best singles to date imo. wub.gif

QUOTE(slowdown73 @ Nov 26 2009, 10:43 PM) *
top10. should do ok but probably wont hang around long at the high end of the charts

QUOTE(Feel_The_Fever @ Nov 27 2009, 01:39 AM) *
top 10 this is a huge improvement on forever is over

QUOTE(chart wizard @ Nov 27 2009, 04:16 PM) *
The songs OK, but not exactly original

QUOTE(Kuki Sanban @ Nov 28 2009, 01:15 AM) *
I think top 5, wipes the floor with FIO biggrin.gif

QUOTE(bigzarafan @ Dec 10 2009, 09:56 PM) *
If FIO can get to #2, this deserves to get to #1. Probably only Top 5 though

Considering these three were their biggest hits before 'What About Us', I would say they were mainstream beyond the sats fandom. huh.gif

'Ego' is amazing.

And I'm living for Mochelle harmonizing together >

(Also, for Vanessa's middle-8, but not in this video laugh.gif )

Love Ego. I still think the release of this should have been moved forward a bit and have the album released after this.

Forever is Over then Ego then the release of the album. Just imagine wub.gif

Absolute smash. I actually didn't like it that much at first because I wanted One Shot or Wordshaker to be released, but after their first performance on it, I fell in love. It's got that amazing Red One vs Eurythmics beat, the words are powerful and sassy, the melody is nice, the vocals are great, iconic video. It's amazing.

I believe this is their best selling single in Ireland? It made #19 in their EOY.

I do like Ego and I understand why everyone loves it but I'm not a major stan!

Does Ireland do single certifications? I figured it did well based on its chart run there but I didn't know it did THAT well.
