The selection process for three London Mayoral candidates have been rather different. Sadiq Khan was selected as the Labour candidate with nearly 90,000 members and supporters taking part. Zac Goldsmith was selected as the Tory candidate in an online election. That process was open to supporters (who only had to pay a pound to register) as well as members. Only 9,000 people bothered to vote. That was still rather more than the number of people who voted in the Lib Dem selection. Caroline Pidgeon was selected by default when the other candidate, Duwayne Brooks (the friend of Stephen Lawrence who was with him when he was murdered), withdrew because his job was going to take him away from London in the coming months.

Zac will win because he is white and has 'star power', despite having little discernible charisma. Star power in this case means 'Aryan, rich dad, environmentalist'.

(DISCLAIMER: even though this applies to the majority of Green Party members, you do not qualify for 'star power' as you are not Conservative while possessing these attributes.)

God I wish Sadiq would win tho

Also Caroline Pidgeon would have been selected even if not by default. She's the best candidate the Lib Dems have ever had for the mayoralty.

Who, nevertheless, stands no chance of winning. Realistically, the Lib Dems should probably concentrate on Richmond. If Goldsmith wins (and he has more chance than any of the Tory alternatives), the Lib Dems need to do well in the subsequent by-election. At this stage, winning it is probably a long shot, but they need to put up a decent fight.

The Lib Dems are finished so long as Tim Farron is the leader.

The Lib Dems' biggest challenge at the moment is simply to be noticed. The broadcasters have been very quick to go back to their comfort zone where they only have to bother about two parties.

Therefore, one of the leader's main priorities has to be to enthuse party members. Tim Farron will be good at that. If Corbyn leads Labour into the next election, Farron will also be the only party leader to have been state-educated unless the Tories elect Theresa May (or someone nobody has thought of yet). That might be worth the odd vote.

Corbyn went to a selective state school.

OK, a non-selective state school. Farron's background is a good deal closer to that of most voters than any of his likely rivals.

If Khan loses, Corbyn won't survive next summer. I don't think he will though.
