The OCC have launched a new chart, showing which songs are climbing in the Official Chart. There will be restrictions to prevent old songs and multiple entries from new albums clogging up the chart. The first such chart will be published tomorrow.

This is a great idea for a chart! At least we have one chart that is guaranteed to remain fresh.

How does it work?
* The Official Trending Chart will rank all tracks which are climbing the Official Singles Chart since the previous week’s chart, ranking the tracks in order of sales / audio streams (100 streams being equivalent to 1 sale). * It will be based on data collected for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday and published on Tuesday, three days before the Official Singles Chart is unveiled on a Friday. * The chart will limit each artist to just two tracks each – to prevent the chart from being dominated by multiple tracks from a brand new superstar artist’s album. * It will only count “new” tracks – in other words, tracks which have never been Top 10, which have been released within the past 24 months, and have 52 chart weeks or fewer to their name. |

So if a song falls then it disappears? And then if climb the following week it re-appears again!

It will take a while to adjust to the flow of tracks. There will be unexpected consequences (to us at least) and obviously a YTD of this chart will mean nothing except as an indicater of which tracks behaved in a certain way.
It may well become a chart for the people who can't abide long runners. This post has been edited by Colm: 15th February 2016, 04:37 PM |

As long as it doesn't make the top ten, that seems to be the case. Therefore, a lot of songs will reach number one and then drop out altogether. Anything climbing to number 11 (that has never been top 10) will be number 1 in this chart unless it was released more than 2 years ago or has already been 52 weeks in the charts. And by my reckoning it wont be number 1 the following week because it won't fullfil all the conditions necessary to be in the chart any more..... If it climbs it won't be non-top10 any more and if it is a non-mover at number 11 then it wont be climbing. Will this basically be a lemmings off a cliff chart? This is a great idea, but I don't like that it only includes songs that are gaining week on week - a lot of singles dip in week 2 and sometimes never gain any momentum. Perhaps if they were given 3 weeks from entry point before removing them from the chart that'd be better. I'd also want it to feature more than 20 tracks, so new stuff that isn't even in the top 100 yet could feature. But let's see.

My only gripe with this is I wish it was more than a top 20 so tracks lower down the top 100 can be given attention, hopefully it can become that over time. Seems like a great idea though, maybe I can use this instead of the official chart to get my new music fix.
