... in the pre-streaming era?
I know it would depend on the song, but working on an average basis across many purchases? Say within 6 months of buying a song, how often might you listen to it? |

31-40 is probably about average for a song I really like, and it still applies now as I still prefer to download my music. Some songs get less, some songs can get waaay more, but a typical song I enjoy is generally in the 30s somewhere.

Well this obviously completely depends on the song...
Some will be under ten, some will be hundreds for me. I don't stream so it hasn't changed anything over the last few years! There'll be a few songs that I'll listen to on repeat for ages (Rihanna's 'Work' being the biggest example of that this year, at 561 plays at the moment :')) I guess an average would be 40-50? Hard to know though! |

Average would be 20+ times, I seem to stream my favourite songs more knowing they are contributing towards the charts continuously.

41-50 probably, though some got over 100 and others less than 20.

Generally most songs hit the 20-30-40 mark. Usually the most played song in my year-end charts will come in at over 100 or more, although this is lessening now that I'm listening to a broader raft of music for less times each on Spotify and updating my playlists week on week.
Last year's #1 for me, Taylor Swift's Style had over 100 plays by the end of the year. Current #1 contenders for this year from AlunaGeorge and Ellie Goulding are looking at 55 and 75 respectively right now. (maybe I should start posting personal charts here). I do still download and buy songs and albums as well as streaming, but its a lot more split and diverse nowadays for me - I think I'm listening to more music than ever though. |

I'm not sure how much but I usually add them to my on the go playlist which I listen on the way to work which consists of 20 or so songs and update each Friday - this is how I usually compile my personal chart each week!

I just discovered that 7/8ths of the songs on my iPod have never been played at all!

Of the 7398 ticked songs in my library:
Min - 0 Q1 - 5 Median - 13 Q3 - 21 Max - 168 and an average of 17.77. I still buy music just as much as always though finding less time to listen to it, and my collection is only growing, so the average playcount has gone down a bit over time I imagine. |
