Not heard semi 1 yet but from one listen of semi 2, I think Yehesi (ha sang) are strong contenders ~

Not gave a proper listen yet but from skims Altyr Muunilinst, Ashton and Yehesi stand out as big contenders.
Also think Ultraviolenceland are set for a big hit, don't think it'll be another win but probably a top 5 contender. |

the Hannah Diamond one? That's such an obvious hit! In all honesty though I thought she'd get vetoed as she's got quite a following on buzzjack.

I did think Hannah would be vetoed for sure, I just sent it to stop anyone else having it really.

i thought she would be too but she didn't even gather enough points!!!!! I thought it was so dodgy with easyfun and A.G Cook doing production that people would want it out anyway as we don't even technically need the threshold anymore - but nothing came of it. Quite disappointed to see that close vetos are the contenders so far as always, I'm staying with the hope that those that skirted close to a veto don't get super rewarded for doing that because it's happening far too often lately and it's against the whole principle of the contest for these easy entries to do well. If they get past the veto and people like them, sure, let them have a top 20 (although don't tell me it wouldn't be hilarious to see them fall flat in the semi) but top level contenders, it just becomes so boring. And I say this as someone who thinks he likes the Hannah Diamond track at this early stage. |

With 12 points all for prior performance 4, 5 and 7 years ago it's not as if Tone was the marginal decision of the century. If that had been chucked out then there would have been about a dozen tracks that would have gone as a result of setting the bar there. |

And I say this as someone who thinks he likes the Hannah Diamond track at this early stage. The reason many of these entries sail close to the veto is because either the artist or something about the song has been an already proven success somewhere or other or has garnered decent positive online or real life buzz, and that's only ever going to be echoed in BJSC with a good result. There are a few entries this month that I'm surprised to see here but fair play, they made it past what is these days quite a rigorous weeding out process so good luck to them. The veto framework is solid and strong and it's never going to please everyone but it is certainly interesting, and no concidence, that the couple of entries that raise eyebrows every month more often than not go on to finish very high, and sometimes win. All this said, of the entries discussed I'd never even heard the Muna song before, but maybe that's me being slow! This post has been edited by gooddelta: 14th February 2017, 11:52 PM |

Let's not put alternative facts out there. With 12 points all for prior performance 4, 5 and 7 years ago it's not as if Tone was the marginal decision of the century. If that had been chucked out then there would have been about a dozen tracks that would have gone as a result of setting the bar there. Oh, as I stated earlier, I thought Tone was fine, compared to Hannah, Muna and Gareth Emery - all of which have had their successful notable Buzzjack tracks do well in recorded history as opposed to Tone. Was not aiming that at Ashton, partly because I don't think it's a contender personally but also because it wasn't on my radar for tracks that 'I would have vetoed'. And yeah Rich, that's kinda why I rail against them because they are obvious choices and I don't want it to be obvious what does well here, I'd prefer a BJSC where anything can have a chance, not just big names of recent contests. That's just always been my bugbear with contenders, how most of them are identified early on because of a perceived cheap angle and how many go on to use (what seems like, even if it isn't) that cheap angle to clean up all competition. |

Your dismissal of Tone has been noted.
She had her doubters, many of them, proclaiming the same thing about Smash..... she won the semi and finished 3rd. |

I think, names aside, "Pinnacle" sounds like a contender anyway. I mean, a Scandi successor to Ultraviolence-era Lana? That's sure to appeal to over half the typical BJSC sample audience.

Can we not use the "they were close to being vetoed" argument please. The songs made it past an already harsh (but needed) veto framework
