I thought it might be interesting to find out, by age range, which way Chart Chat members preferred to obtain/listen to their music.
I've made it multiple choice in case of equal preference, but please don't answer in more than one age range. |

19 years old
I picked both physical and download. I always buy albums physically, and even a few CD singles when they exist! But I'm quite happy downloading singles. |

Mainly mp3 downloads for iPod (never pay), Spotify premium for house parties/finding music and the occasional CD if I can't find the same quality online. |

Over 40 and still purchase physical albums but I am one of those (some might say sad) cases that whilst I still need the physical album I purchase via Amazon and listen to the auto-rip download.
Sometimes I don't even un-wrap the CD these days but need the physical copy as I have collected all the other Albums for that Artist over the years. Pay for Spotify for my 2 Daughters though. |

Streaming, and I'm 20. I don't mind paying £4.99 a month for it when I use it so often, the amount of new music I listen to is more than worth it, it seems to be getting harder to find songs to download on filesharing sites and even just on Youtube, so it's ease of access too. It's rare a song isn't on streaming that I want, it tends to be J-Pop which I'll just download on iTunes to add to my library. There's a few older songs and just random releases that artists leave out of their UK releases for some reason (or most of a career in Ricki-Lee's case ) but I just add my local files to the library and it's fine.

18-30 and still downloads, even though I do use streaming a bit more than I used to, particularly for albums, I very, very rarely buy a physical album now as I've never been a huge album collector, so if there's one I really want so for convenience, I can often just go and listen for free on Spotify!

26 and I almost only use downloads. I do still buy physical albums, but mostly when I see them on sale. Never really got into streaming very much because I listen to music on my iPod mostly and it's a 12 year old iPod Classic so I need the actual audio file to listen to it on the go.

29, and I don't have a preference. I use all three for differing reasons!
Albums - 99% of the time I purchase them physically (on CD). Occasionally I'll buy an album on Vinyl as well, if I truly adore said album, or if I'm a big fan of the artist (an artist whose releases I collect). If I'm slightly tentative about whether I really want to invest in a particular album (for instance, an artist's debut album), I'll stream it first before deciding whether to purchase it or not. I don't download albums! A physical makes me feel like I really own the album. Songs (singles) - I use iTunes to download songs I love (I buy anything that makes my personal chart Top 10 ). I use Spotify to stream songs I like, but not enough to download. I also use it to listen to new songs. |

21 here. As somebody who listens to music whilst out walking with no internet connection almost every day, I will never understand the appeal of streaming. Don't buy music often enough to justify the Spotify membership either, I prefer to spend less and know my money is going directly to the artists I like! Also even if it's a bit abstract in the modern age when it's just a downloaded or ripped file, I like the idea of owning the music I listen to, so it can't be taken away just because I unsubscribe from a service. Voted for downloads and physicals (downloads for singles, physicals for albums unless the download is significantly cheaper)

I'm 25 and I use all 3, but I voted for downloads as my favourite.
I use streaming almost every day but I use the free version as I prefer to download things (legally!) so I can have a permanent copy of them on my laptop and iPod. If I particularly like an artist I'll happily spend £10 on a CD album, but for artists I'm not as big a fan of I might download their albums when the price comes down to £4.99 or whatever. |

I voted for streaming. I buy albums on iTunes for some of my favorites, but otherwise I'm pretty much done with buying music. |
