This week marks the tenth anniversary since 'Acceptable In The 80s' charted in the UK Top 10 and introduced us to Calvin Harris. The OCC has compiled some facts and figures presented here alongside some of his biggest songs and his official Top 20. Calvin has achieved the feat of 22 Top 10 singles. Only Merrymaking At My Place, Flashback, You Used To Hold Me, Open Wide, Pray To God and his features on Hype and Off the Record have missed out. Of those Top 10 singles, 7 of them have reached #1. The biggest of which was We Found Love which he featured on in 2011 as part of the launch of Rihanna's Talk That Talk album campaign. The song spent 6 non-consecutive weeks at the top and is Calvin's biggest selling single having sold over 1.5million (with streams combined). His most streamed song is his 2016 collaboration with Rihanna, This Is What You Came For, which has accumulated over 90 million streams since its release! Calvin has also sold almost 2 million albums in the past 10 years from 4 releases: I Created Disco (UK #8) Ready For The Weekend (UK #1) 18 Months (UK #1) Motion (UK #2) He also held the record (until last week, thanks Ed ) for having the most Top 10 hits released from one album, this being 18 Months, with a grand total of 9 songs. This year, Calvin plans to release 10(!) new songs with Slide being the first of those and it has already made the Top 10. Official Top 20 (as of September 2016) 1. We Found Love (with Rihanna) (UK #1) 2. How Deep Is Your Love (with Disciples) (UK #2) 3. This Is What You Came For (feat. Rihanna) (UK #2) 4. Summer (UK #1) 5. Blame (feat. John Newman) (UK #1) 6. Outside (feat. Ellie Goulding) (UK #6) 7. Dance Wiv Me (with Dizzee Rascal & Chrome) (UK #1) 8. Feel So Close (UK #2) 9. Sweet Nothing (feat. Florence Welch) (UK #1) 10. I Need Your Love (feat. Ellie Goulding) (UK #4) 11. I'm Not Alone (UK #1) 12. Bounce (feat. Kelis) (UK #2) 13. Drinking From The Bottle (feat. Tinie Tempah) (UK #5) 14. Under Control (with Alesso feat. Hurts) (UK #1) 15. We'll Be Coming Back (feat. Example) (UK #2) 16. Let's Go (feat. Ne-Yo) (UK #2) 17. Thinking About You (feat. Ayah Marar) (UK #8) 18. Ready For The Weekend (UK #3) 19. Acceptable In The 80s (UK #10) 20. Pray To God (feat. HAIM) (UK #35) So, what's your favourite Calvin track from the past 10 years? And what are you looking forward to from him this year? It's incredible how far he's come and what a legacy of tunes *.* I actually like Merrymaking at the time but I've heard it recently and I now don't know why maybe there's a reason it failed to make the top 40
my rank 1. I'm Not Alone 2. We Found Love 3. Pray To God 4. Acceptable In The 80's 5. Feels So Close 6. Under Control 7. Summer 8.Dance Wiv Me 9. We'll Be Coming Back 10.Flashback 11. Sweet Nothing 12. The Girls 13. How Deep Is Your Love 14. Ready For The Weekend 15. Blame the rest are either average or overrated (even Blame is a 5.5 for me) |

Flashback is amazing!
Here's how I'd rank them... ---Amazing--- I'm Not Alone Pray To God The Girls How Deep Is Your Love We Found Love Feel So Close Flashback You Used To Hold Me Blame ---Good--- Sweet Nothing Ready For The Weekend Bounce Acceptable In The 80's My Way Summer ---Forgettable--- We'll Be Coming Back Outside Let's Go This Is What You Came For Slide I Need Your Love Thinking About You Under Control ---Bad--- Open Wide Dance Wiv Me Drinking From The Bottle Hype Off The Record I'm Not Alone was such a daring song at the time, there wasn't anything quite like it in the charts. The formula has been copied so many times since (sometimes by Calvin himself) it was released by an artist today, I really think it would flop. |

I could rank my 10 favourite Calvin songs, but then again I'd just be listing his first album

I think here's how I would rank them:
[Spectrum (Say My Name)] 01 Sweet Nothing 02 Outside 03 This Is What You Came For 04 Feel So Close 05 Pray to God 06 Drinking From the Bottle 07 Summer 08 I Need Your Love 09 Thinking About You 10 How Deep Is Your Love 11 We Found Love 12 Ready for the Weekend 13 Bounce 14 Acceptable in the 80s 15 Blame 16 Under Control 17 The Girls 18 My Way 19 Let's Go 20 We'll Be Coming Back 21 Slide 22 Dance Wiv Me 23 I'm Not Alone 24 Open Wide 25 Hype What an amazing greatest hit would that make *-* I must admit that he's been a bit more hit and miss in recent years though (Hype, Open Wide, Slide either aren't very exciting or just outright terrible). I'd love for him to make another Florence single in the future too |

Started out cool and different, loved him when I saw him live in 2009, then started cosying up to America and everything he's released in the last five years has been shit.
Feel So Close was his last genuinely OK track. |

Very hit and miss, he was definitely at his most innovative prior to 2012 and I doubt we'll ever see something as great as Acceptable in the 80s, but I do find the anthemic summery dance sound suits him very well so I do find myself enjoying some of his generic dance songs, can be absolutely fantastic when he wants to be yet absolute shit at others, though his voice remains one of the best in dance music <33333. I'd rank them
Amaze: I'm Not Alone (just the right mix between old Calvin and new Calvin done right, he will never top this ) We Found Love Pray To God Acceptable In The 80's Feel So Close Very good: How Deep Is Your Love Summer Under Control Let's Go Outside Fairly Good: Bounce I Need Your Love Drinking From The Bottle You Used To Hold Me Flashback Liked at the time, but dated badly: Dance Wiv Me Ready For The Weekend Average: The Girls This Is What You Came For Thinking About You Poor: My Way Merrymaking at my Place We'll Be Coming Back Sweet Nothing (I love Florence, but I've never been able to get into this, such dull production) Strongly dislike: Blame (The vocals on this ) Don't remember but pretty sure they were shite: Hype Off The Record Open Wide Haven't heard~ Slide This post has been edited by Chez Wombat: Mar 13 2017, 09:54 PM |

Yeah agreed that he's extremely hit & miss. There isn't actually single song I'd rank among the greatest dance songs of the decade but he does a lot of VERY GOOD ones, but yeah he's definitely churned out some dross in more recent years. My rate:
07 Acceptable In the 80s 09 The Girls ?? Merrymaking At My Place (I genuinely have no idea how this even goes) 08 Dance Wiv Me 08 I'm Not Alone 08 Ready for the Weekend 07 Flashback 07 You Used to Hold Me (I feel I should like this one more, always a tad underappreciated even by myself back then!) 06 Bounce 05 Feel So Close (never ever got the hype about this one) 07 We Found Love (but still vastly overrated) 07 Let's Go 10 We'll Be Coming Back (this is amazing ) 08 Sweet Nothing 03 Drinking from the Bottle (by a mile his worst) 08 I Need Your Love 08 Thinking About You 06 Under Control 10 Summer 10 Blame 09 Outside (he was on absolute FIRE in 2014!!!) 06 Pray To God 11 How Deep Is Your Love (genuinely think this is his best ever single) 05 This Is What You Came For 06 Hype 07 My Way (didn't like at first but grew to it slightly) 07 Slide Ah a couple I forgot about: 07 Off The Record 06 Open Wide (but C.U.B.A. would be a 9) |

Flashback was the first Calvin song I really loved and listened to on repeat. Did the same with We Found Love, Feel So Close, Let's Go, and Thinking About You, and then Pray To God is my fave post-18 Months.
Overall I genuinely enjoy all his singles, even This Is What You Came For although I wouldn't mind it being erased from existence either. |
