The controversial Joey Barton has been banned from football for 18 months by the FA after admitting to FA charges in relation to betting:

I think the sentence will be reduced on appeal. It is a stupidly harsh punishment. He has said he has a problem, yes by all means ban him, but 18 months is way too long. It just reeks of the FA throwing the book at someone to make a point.
More to the point, he is awful at betting, 3 wins out of 30! |

Apparently it was the minimum ban for that according to the FA.
