There were three other UK #1 singles which got left off this volume. One of these came from Mario Winans featuring Enya & P. Diddy I Don't Wanna Know which spent 2 weeks at the top. Another came from McFly who featured on this volume with their debut #1 single, but the follow up single, titled Obviously, was omitted but featured on the next volume instead. Lastly, Usher, who had another #1 earlier in 2004 with Yeah had his second #1 of the year, Burn, overlooked. Some other notable omissions from this era came from girl group The 411 with their debut single On My Knees, Peter Andre's follow up to his 2004 #1 re-released single Mysterious Girl, Maroon 5's Top 5 single This Love, Natasha Bedingfield's #3 debut single titled Single and a song which would go on in later years to become one of the most streamed songs of all time, Mr Brightside by The Killers. Now 58 was the only volume in the series to feature publicity stunt double Eamon and Frankee, along with one hit wonders from Narcotic Thrust, The Rasmus, Gladiator, O-Zone, Nina Sky and Kristian Leontiou. Artwork Rating: 4/10 Very Poor A very rushed design I feel. Just what they were thinking using multiple umbrellas surrounding the logo of a summer release. It just seems like very little thought process went into this design, and it doesn't look appealing even now. Disc 1 Favourite: Shapeshifters Lola's Theme A dance anthem of 2004 which also got to #1. It's really their only main hit which lead to many flops afterwards. I love the vocals on this one, and it was a very refreshing song to hear that year in amongst many underwhelming hit singles. Shoutout also to Outkast featuring three volumes later than it should have. Disc 2 Favourite: O-Zone Dragostea Din Tei This isn't really what I call one of my favourites, but slim pickings on this disc lead me to decide that this catchy Romanian pop song was the most enjoyable to listen to again. I never really enjoyed much of the music in the charts that year, and what this volume represents is much of what was lacking at that time, and one of those things was dance music which had been replaced by a high increase in urban music available. The publicity stunt pulled by Eamon and Fankee to each get corresponding #1 singles was such a joke it was embarrassing to see both "songs" feature on Disc 1 of this volume. This is the time where I started watching more music channels, Lolas Theme was everywhere and I liked that (thinking it was a keep fit themed song by a girlband back then considering the group name and the lyrics 'I'm a different person' and like it even more now but I go with Now We Are Free, one of the last trance songs to do well in the UK chart and I remember it from the time and liked it. I Like It is fantastic also.
For CD 2 the section is weaker but I go with Dragostea Din Tei, it was everywhere at the time and I really liked it at the time. The first ever now album I owned <3 <3
Disc 1: Dip it low is a bop and Left outside alone is an 11/10 track but it can't be anything but my favourite song when i was younger, Some Girls  I would listen to it 24/7 and it still sounds so good nowadays, a perfect pop song  Disc 2: Dragostea Din Tei & Five Colours In My Hair are massive bops and childhood faves but once again my favourite is the track #1, everytime one of Britney's best songs and an utterly stunning ballad that hits me hard every time I listen <3

It's the what-I-call 'Now 45' dilemma. Just how do you follow one of your favourite volumes of Now? With something of equal standing, that's how. I'm sad 2004 wasn't one of your favourite years when it was one of mine Andrew, but I totally get why you feel that way.
I once said that I loved 2004 music wise because of what I was discovering and into at that time, rather than what was actually at number one. The same is true of 2005. I agree with you when I say I don't for example have any time for the Eamon or Frankee 'saga'. Biggest waste of a seven week run at number one ever. See also a couple of autumn number ones that we don't meet till next week (although I suspect you'll be picking one of these as your favourite for that volume, so I'll say no more for now). I believe they're beach parasols and not umbrellas on the cover either, just a stickler there. Still, a great volume for me, if not as flawless as 57 was, and the start of several of my all time favourites appearing on the Now volumes. Here's my top 5 from each: Now 58 Top 5 CD1 1. Rachel Stevens (now I do like the Shapeshifters record with hindsight. But if I'm totally honest I'd have preferred to see this at number one. Working with Richard X temporarily halted the bad fortunes of 'Funky Dory' for Rachel and deservedly so. A stone cold electro pop classic from this year) 2. Jamelia (you can totally tell Chris Martin wrote and produced this one. I dare say the best single she ever released) 3. Outkast (why it took until this volume for 'Hey Ya' to appear I don't know. Still a blindingly good one this, even now at a club everyone goes mental for it) 4. Scissor Sisters (I remember watching them promote the original release of this on Popworld before they got their breakthrough, was delighted when they re-released it thus. Like the most fabulous merging of Supertramp and Elton John ever committed to record) 5. Keane (really loved the first Keane album, truly spectacular record. Even if this song always makes me cry a bit) CD2 1. Girls Aloud (aka the point where I signed up fully paid to the Girls Aloud fan club. Their second album was such a turning point for them and this single was just the start of it. I remember them performing it on CD:UK for the first time like it was yesterday) 2. Busted (for me, as we have only one more appearance in the Now volumes to come from them, the last truly great single they released before they split. Totally awesome mix of pop punk stylings and the cheekiness of their first album) 3. McFly (truly great debut single from one of my all time favourite bands. The 60s surf guitar stylings on this are divine. And written about Sooz from 'As If'. Can't say fairer than that) 4. Kylie Minogue (another great single from the 'Body Language' album. I loved the video for this one as well. Very early 70s) 5. Nina Sky (one of my favourite one hit wonders of the 00s this. A little sound of summer that when you listen to it now was almost like a blueprint for someone we'd be meeting in about four volumes from now. I'll leave you to guess who) Loved Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Scissor Sisters, The Killers, The 411 and The Corrs on your disc 3 Andrew  Will Young, Pet Shop Boys, and also Shaznay Lewis whom you missed out on with 'Never Felt Like This Before', would've been my picks for it.

Can we play 'If I Were You' by Candee Jay on plug between the two CDs as the interval track. Its just there are few dance tracks on this Now album and I think that would be a good one to have as the interval one.

I love NOW 58. It's filled with such nostalgic pop bops. I gave it a 7/10 because whilst it contains so many amazing songs, the other songs weigh it down majorly. But this is album I would never skip a song on.
