Last Friday, Arctic Monkeys claimed their sixth UK Number 1 album with Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino. TBH + C was the sixth AM album in a row to debut at the top spot of the Official Albums Chart, keeping their 100% record of Number 1 studio albums alive. Available on black, clear, silver and gold LP variants, the album was the fastest-selling vinyl of the last 25 years, shifting 24,500 copies in just seven days. According to Official Charts Company data, dating back to when modern Official Chart records began in 1994, what other albums have seen strong opening sales of their wax press alternatives? We rundown the Top 10 vinyl albums of modern times. Before Alex Turner & Co decimated his first-week vinyl stats, Liam Gallagher held the prestigious record for seven months. Liam's debut solo album As You Were, released in October 2017, was the second biggest vinyl album of 2017 overall, and logged 16,000 sales on the revived format in its first week. As You Were is to be released on picture disc for the first time next month as part of HMV Vinyl Week. We travel back to March 2017 for the third fastest-seller on vinyl, which is Ed Sheeran's ÷. In a year that vinyl sales topped 4 million for the first time since 1991, ÷ was the first of 2017 to score mega sales, amounting to 13,000 in total. The legendary David Bowie also has one of the fastest sellers on plastic; his 26th and final studio album, Blackstar. Released in January 2016 just days before his death, 12,100 units were sold, giving it the fifth biggest first week sales. While most huge sales weeks have occurred in the last number of years due to the vinyl revival, Oasis' (What's The Story) Morning Glory? from 1995 stands up with this decade's most popular with 11,650 opening week sales. Bettering Janet Jackson's Design of a Decade in its opening week, WTSMG? has gone on to become the UK's fifth best-selling album ever. This is an extract from Music Week dating 20th April 2014: QUOTE Vinyl sales last week, largely Record Store Day related, amounted to 42,186 – 140.28% up week-on-week and 60.10% above sales in the same week last year, which also included Record Store Day. Vinyl’s overall 2.83% share of album sales last week was its highest since sales week ending 20 May 1995 – 987 weeks ago - when the number one vinyl album, Paul Weller’s Stanley Road, sold 4,326 copies driving the format to a 2.93% share of overall sales. The number of vinyl albums sold last week was the highest since week-ending 23 December 1995 (956 weeks ago), when an overall tally of 45,261 vinyl album sales included a top contribution of 1,920 sales of Queen’s Made In Heaven. 'Only' sold 4.3k on vinyl, when there's several albums that have done better than that.

The article mentions sales week ending 20 May 1995 which is the chart published on 21/05/95 and dated to the following Saturday (27/05/95).

As you say, the first week sales for the album combined was 90k at the time but was since revised to somewhere in the 60k region. The OCC must be basing the list from sales of the time.
